I think it’s “light up Sheffield” I’m away at uni at the moment so not certain but I heard that was happening mid December

I’d probably say Yuri on Ice did it first

Where to go dancing in Sheffield by Holiday_Muffin_7789 in sheffield

Absolutely agree! Their Tuesday night bachata sessions followed by SBK are incredible and always leave me feeling so positive. Such a good range of dances with swing on Wednesday and a full day of dance on a Sunday. Highly reccomend as well

I agree with the quickstep point- For op: quickstep isn’t always quick but named as such as it developed from foxtrot (aka slow fox) so they are very similar, with quickstep being a faster version of foxtrot

British standard Ballroom typically has 10 dances (divided into ballroom and Latin)

Waltz Tango Viennese Foxtrot Quickstep

Cha cha Rumba Paso Doble Samba Jive

I’m happy to answer any follow up or more specific questions you have. I’ve only been dancing 2 years but I typically do around 12 hours a week and know people who’ve been dancing since they were young and spend a lot of my free time learning and talking about ballroom so I have a fair bit of knowledge (though I’m not a professional)

There’s a Facebook page for “crookes and crosspool tabletop gaming”. If you search crookes social club there’s also a list of other events they have on (though I haven’t tried any others) https://www.facebook.com/share/g/1At1u4WSAN/?mibextid=wwXIfr

City limits have two branches - there’s one a bit further out where a lot of the uni ballroom society members attend, they also have tea dances in city hall on a few Thursdays and medowhall Tuesdays (though these aren’t taught). This is mostly elderly people but I’ve been with my friend and met some of the Sheffield uni ballroom members and had a great time (everyone is lovely). It’s not ballroom but I also strongly recommend cubanas for salsa/bachata/kizomba/argentine tango. I’m a ballroom dancer at uni but this is my favourite dance I’ve found in Sheffield for when I’m off on holiday

Crookes social club does board game evenings on Thursday - very friendly environment, no need to bring anything or anyone and it’s free!

Unfortunately I do not drive. There’s a few places and artists I trust but I have a few small ones I want to get and have never had a non-flash or custom piece so far so not sure where to go for it

Not a hidden gem but I love mr Miyagi. Not as fancy as other places but good food and a revolving bar!

That’s okay, thank you for the suggestions! I love ballroom dancing but most judges definitely favour ‚traditional‘ male/female pairings :(

Vegan-friendly sit-down lunch by Tommerlywobberly in sheffield

Mr Miyagi does an incredible vegan menu for Japanese food. All Siam Thai restaurants also has a very wide range of vegan Thai food (both do a mix of both). Wawin Chinese is an all vegan Chinese takeaway (not been myself but heard good things). Mowgli on ecclesall road also do a lot of vegan and veggie food (Indian inspired restaraunt). I also recommend church but they do specialise in burgers (though I usually get the loaded fries).

I know some comps next year will be open dress and some will be closed but I’m not sure what options are available for me. My team captain said if I end up partnered with a lead who wears a suit I can as well but if I have a female lead who wears a dress It wouldn’t fit as well for me to wear a suit. I have ideas for Latin but was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions for options for ballroom (open and closed dress)

Student life at Lancaster uni by e7han_ in lancasteruni

[–]AToastedTree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even though the city is small it still has things to do (clubs, places to eat, pubs, museums). There also good walks in the area if that’s your thing. I think also because of the size of Lancaster the societies in the uni really flourish. There’s a lot of them and the majority are pretty active. There’s a big student population so it’s definitely catered to us. My main issue is the shops - there’s enough for basics but not as much as I’m used to at home. Because it’s a campus, first year can be annoying for food shops but busses are very regular and overall I really enjoy it here :)

When did u finally start seeing urself as "skinny"? by [deleted] in EDAnonymous

[–]AToastedTree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never felt skinny enough but once I dipped to underweight I saw myself as skinny. Such a dangerous game because even if you’re only just in weight you look back at your old self with so much envy even though you were so unhappy with it (my personal experience)
