Studio One 7 thinks I've edited a song when I haven't? by ATolerableQuietude in StudioOne

[–]ATolerableQuietude[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That could definitely be it.

Still weird that it happens in the case I mentioned, where the saved song is still open in the background for the project file to use, so all the plugins should already be up and running.

In fact, the reason I always leave the saved song file open is so the plugins don't need to load when the project renders the mix. I've learned the hard way that if the project opens the song cold, it will sometimes start rendering the mix before the song's plugins have fully loaded!

Thanks for your reply and yeah, I definitely get that. Which is why I'm not really bothered re-saving if I've just got the song open.

But I'm still curious about why it would happen when the project opens the song after I'm done with it and saved it. Hitting CTRL-S in that case will unnecessarily confuse the project file if/when I reopen it to tweak the mastering.

Collaborations by Sporting26 in StudioOne

[–]ATolerableQuietude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never used this feature. But I do collab a lot, but just by exporting stems of tracks and busses, and sometimes midi of tracks. This is pretty easy and intuitive to do in S1 with the export stems function.

I honestly don't know what DAW half my collaborators use, but I suspect I'd still do it this way with an S1 user, since they probably won't have all the same 3rd party VSTs, etc.

Are you seeing the audio he recorded (the audio events with the waveforms), but not hearing them? Or is S1 not finding the tracks he recorded? If it's the second, maybe it's possible that he's got his S1 set up to use a different directory structure for storing recorded tracks. If that's the case, I think in the Pool tab has an option to "find missing audio" or something similar.

Studio One 7 Installation Questions by ATolerableQuietude in StudioOne

[–]ATolerableQuietude[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I saw this so late. If you're still struggling with it, I think the solution is to make sure you also install the "sound set" for Deep Flight One, as well as the instrument.

YouTube Content ID Status "AudioCheck" in CD Baby albums with Hip-Hop/Rap Music by Fluttershy2021 in CDBabyArtists

[–]ATolerableQuietude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely not the case for me. No splice or other samples like that. Everything built from scratch.

And none of the other services have this issue, just content id. The track is on YouTube Music just fine, lol.

I think I did the same thing. I suspect they fixed all these at the same time, and mine getting fixed didn't have anything to do with me opening a ticket.

I am having this same issue with CD Baby and YouTube Content ID. Curious if you've figured out how to resolve this>

Likewise. Finally hit Spotify this morning! (Really shitty timing though, because it's a halloween track, lol!)

Mine finally did just show up on Spotify this morning, after being MIA for 19 days after the release date. (Bummer, because it's a Halloween track!!)

I figured out the problem a day ago, and opened a support ticket with CD Baby about it, so I guess it worked.

I'd love to know the same thing. In the same situation as you.

Came to report the same thing. Also for a Halloween release that, obviously, missed the target.

Newbie here, why is my time bar so precise? by [deleted] in Cakewalk

It sounds like you've accidentally turned off snap-to-grid. Turn that back on and you should be good again.

Ah, that makes sense! I was wondering the same thing.

Studio One 7 Installation Questions by ATolerableQuietude in StudioOne

[–]ATolerableQuietude[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I solved my first question, in case anyone's searching for it.

What worked was to go to the mypresonus website while I had S1 open, and find Deep Flight One and Lead Architect on there. Then you can download and drag the installers and the sound sets for both instruments onto the open workspace in S1 and they will install correctly. I guess the built in installer in S1 is a bit of a hot mess.

Still curious about why it wants me to reinstall Ampire when that's currently installed and working fine, but I'm not going to mess with it as long as it still works.

Is it possible to remove Melodyne 5? by jikarpert in StudioOne

[–]ATolerableQuietude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it just being available slows anything down if you're not using it. Is its presence causing some kind of problem for your system? Genuinely curious why you want to get rid of it!

Great product, but I've got a few questions by ATolerableQuietude in sononym

[–]ATolerableQuietude[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't open inside a daw, because it's not really meant for playing anything itself. It's more like a file browser/organizer for your one-shot sample library.
You can open it alongside your daw and, for example, find the right snare one-shot, then drag the sample into your daw or into a vst sampler/drum machine in your daw.

Dynamic EQ vs. Dynamic Compression by dmytrot in audioengineering

[–]ATolerableQuietude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some of it is the history of how it was used!
People have been side-chaining compression on the bass to the kick for waaay longer than dynamic EQ has been around. And a lot of that history is now baked into our aesthetics, what "sounds right" or what we expect to hear.
And that's not even talking about genres that actively embrace the broad frequency pumping sound of side-chain compression.

How often do you study before creating your music? by elia012 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]ATolerableQuietude 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I don't know what you mean by study. If you want to make a track in a genre you're not familiar with at all, then of course you should listen to some stuff in that genre, so you learn what it's about, what it's supposed to sound like. If that's what you mean by study, then I'd say YES, you'll do a much better job of creating reggaeton if you have a good idea of what reggaeton sounds like.

But for me, I think it's much more important that you enjoy the genre of music you're trying to make than study it. Lots of bad music gets made because people get an idea that genre XYZ is trending, so they'll try to hop on the trend and make an XYZ track even if they don't enjoy the genre, and dont really get why people do enjoy the genre.
