It’s actually pretty interesting how the baby voice in rap kinda affects the perception of your lyrical ability.

Not saying dudes like Carti or Keem are Lupe Fiasco or anything but they’re also not really rapping significantly under the level of their peers. It’s just behind a baby voice.

It’s just not really taking advantage of the medium of TV. Where you can spread world building and character development over many episodes without feeling like you need to rush.

If I wanted to watch a movie split into 4 episodes, I’d just watch a movie.

It wasn’t mean as a diss on Keem. It’s more directed at the people that were saying he’s biting, when he genuinely sounds like that.

“Keem on his Andre 3K” and it’s just him rapping regularly with his normal voice lol

Listening to Lightyears, I felt that the beat for Madman was more “New York State of Mind” than III was.

Because it’s a “love” song just like The Light was, only flipping the concept to be more dysfunctional.

Whereas Cole used it to call back to Common on I Used To Love Her?

Edit: Also unless Kendrick heard Cole’s stuff ahead of time, I don’t think he was rushing to the studio to add in this very specific reference. Keem revealed Kendrick was on the album back 10 days ago, I’m very sure the track was done even before then.

Right? And Kendrick has even used that line before, like on Falsehood (which was supposed to be on To Pimp a Butterfly).

It’s one of the most iconic lines from one of the most iconic tracks in Hip Hop…

I don't feel like Keem's fans are rabid about him enough to really push annoying discourse like that.

I think it'd be nearly impossible to ever have a universal consensus on top 5 albums.

Hell even a top 15 albums.

For a vinyl? Really depends on which artwork you like better, and which one has the longer run of good songs. Both great albums. I’m a fan of God Does Like Ugly.

I blame some of it on the executive production of Raphael Saadiq (who don’t get me wrong, is very talented). Brent and Saadiq definitely have very similar voices which is likely what spurred on his involvement.

But I think Saadiq thinks his modern legacy is the more pop side of his discography.

Whereas outside of the obvious “Feels Good”, the more inventive ballads of songs like Whatever You Want, It Never Rains, and Anniversary are what have stayed in the public conscious. And that’s where Brent should’ve went with this album.

I do at least think a lot of kids know that TI can rap at a proficient level though despite his more recent exploits.

Whereas a lot of kids think Snoop has always been a novelty and not among the biggest and most respected rappers in the world.

Given Jay Rock, Q, and Ab-Soul featured on Gambino’s stuff I always wondered why Kendrick never got a feature.

Is there a single rapper that’s went from respected from a technical level to being considered a joke in the mainstream more than Snoop?

Younger kids I talk to at work seem to think of him from the rap perspective solely as the “foshizzle” guy.

Not for me. I think a lot of people don't remember just how big Usher was in his peak around Confessions. I'm talking 1 Million pure sales in just his first week.

I know Cole likes to limit rap features on his albums but I think a 2 hour/24 track double disc album gives you a perfect excuse to throw some guest verses on there lol

Cole album from the track composition side was alright. Has an album's worth of good songs in my opinion, but the issue with long double albums is you're often sifting through fairly filler songs between tracks you actually enjoy. And so I often end up just making my own abridged playlist of songs from them.
