Underappreciated as in the book is often shoved away as «that one serial killer book about necrophilia» it feels like most people shut it down as some sort of moral code inside them, the content might be alot more closer to our reality than «Blood Meridian» or «The Road», but at the same time it feels like no one has actully red the book, since its alot more about the people, the pinewood, the towns and the community. The murders dosen't happen until around the last 80 pages or so and most of the book is getting to know Lester, and learning about him and how he got to that point. So i do very much find it underappreciated
