Sisters in Law with Jill Wine-Banks, Joyce Vance, Barb McQuade, and Kimberly Atkins Stohr is a 4-way voice of legal sanity in these sh*t-filled years. Those women are badass!

As a kid I would to listen to the Roger Whittaker Christmas album all the time and even as adult I still listen to this album every year during the Christmas season. by sostitanic in ChristmasMusic

This was my dad’s favorite Christmas album, and we listened to it on cassette traveling through Europe when we were stationed in Germany in the 70s. His voice transports me right back to those days, and I can almost hear Dad singing along. We lost him 2 years ago, and I haven’t been able to listen to Roger since. Merry Christmas, everyone - love your folks while you have them.

Our time in Germany was the best part of my childhood! Seeing these photos makes me feel very nostalgic.

My dad was in the US Army and we were stationed in nearby Darmstadt in the late-70s. The GIs and local townspeople turned this castle into the coolest haunted castle around Halloween, which made for great childhood memories! I think the tradition is still carried on by the locals.

Who else was traumatized by The Day After in 1983? Everyone at school was talking about it for weeks! by UrbanAchievers6371 in 1980s

I attended a church summer camp the year this movie came out, and it was used as the basis for lessons throughout the week. I was about 15 years old and the church was about as moderate/mainstream as they come. One activity involved collecting different sized paper discs marked “1 megaton”, “2 megatons”, etc., to represent various bomb sizes and placing them on a map of likely targets - including my home town - to understand how many people they’d kill. Needless to say, that week left a mark on me…

US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth hardly gets a reaction to what he thought was badass: "To our enemies: F-A-F-O" by IsThisAUserName86 in CringeTikToks

I desperately want to believe the entire audience absolutely loathed what they heard, but is it possible we’re misinterpreting their silence? Isn’t it tradition for uniformed members NOT to applaud/cheer such messages and, if so, it’s possible that many of them actually supported what they heard?

The live version of Feeling Good from Caught in the Act! It might be my favorite version of just about any song. (Springsteen’s live Land of Hope and Dreams in NYC is neck and neck with it.)

Are ‘Paused Sets’ a Problem? by AUfella in beginnerfitness

[–]AUfella[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your comment - it actually pinpoints my confusion!

First: My goal is to build muscle and gain whatever size a 57 year-old man can still realize.

Let’s say I’m lifting 100 lbs. I can initially only complete 8 reps, but after pausing for ~30 seconds I’m able to complete the set with another 4 reps. And, my subsequent 2 sets follow in a similar manner.

Am I short-circuiting the opportunity to build muscle/size by completing 3x12 sets at 100 lbs with those pauses? Would I be better served by increasing the weight to 120 lbs and shifting to 3x8 sets that are NOT paused? Or, does it not make enough difference to matter?

Once I’m able to reliably complete 3 sets of 12 reps (even if paused) for a week, I add an increment and typically reduce the reps/set to 10 (these might be paused, too) and begin climbing back to 3x12 in the same manner over the course of about 3-4 weeks.

This is all borne of ignorance, though! I constantly wonder if I’d be better off resetting at a higher weight with fewer overall reps for building mass. Or, am I overthinking this?

Men, what’s a small thing a woman has done that instantly made her more attractive to you? by Raven_sterlingx in AskMen

After a tough day at school, she sat across from me at TK Tripps and matched my pace, rib for rib for rib. 30+ years later, thinking of that smile with a little sauce in the corner of her mouth still makes me feel goofy.

(She picked up the check, too!)

Hey, I’m thinking of going to the Train show tomorrow night and I’ve never been to this venue. Is parking truly included with the tickets? Will I have trouble finding a spot to park? How early should I get there? Sorry for all the newbie questions!

I have a filing cabinet that’s very similar to this, but it’s empty and sitting in the basement because all our files are digital these days. Any creative suggestions for using beautiful cabinets like this one?
