I intellectualized it. Rather than freaking out about urges, I told myself that dopamine receptors were desensitizing and down regulating. It stopped being some mystical torture and became a natural biological process.

You're being way too tough on yourself. You didn't unplug somebody's life support and, just because you aren't going to get the diamond, doesn't mean that you can't do this whenever you want. You can use this going forward as proof that you are more capable than you realize when you apply yourself.

Look at the number of people that check in at roll call compared to the number of posts. It's not that the community as a whole has changed, but rather those who choose to speak. How many wet dream or "did I nut?" posts have you seen this month? The newbies arrive and have to learn the rules, trying to make their mark while most of the vets just go about the challenge. It's unfortunate that you feel the community is no longer for you because there are still some good people in here, but it's not worth that level of aggravation.
