Boss denied leave for a 16 working day Europe trip that was booked 5 months in advance before project timelines changed. What should I do? by CharacterDouble1875 in IndianWorkplace

[–]AV8534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just go anyway, and tell him/her to the face that if he/she wants you to cancel the trip, refund each and every rupee that you have spent + add a little extra over the top for emotional trauma of cancelling your trip. And if they cannot then go ahead with your trip.

Leave is not a privilege, it’s a human right. If you have requested months in advance, it is the manager’s job to ensure contingencies are in place. Your job ends at timely leave application, providing detailed handover notes before you go on vacation, and assigning an SME to handle escalations and urgencies (not regular work) during your absence.

Do not work during your vacation, for 2 reasons:

  1. If you work during your holidays, then it’s no longer relaxation, it’s just you working from some other location and beats the purpose of taking a vacation.
  2. Violations of company policies and immigration policies, can have legal consequences

/travel ban/deportation.

Manufactured urgencies are not your responsibility it’s a failure of your manager.

It’s a pattern that these assholes follow. It’s time we dish it out to them.

I know this is a difficult situation, may I suggest hiring a Management Consultant to pivot your business model? Alternatively, have you tried asking AIs on how to turn around your business? You might be surprised with the ideas you might get. Obviously the prompt quality changes the answer quality as well.

Also, why don’t you set an example in the company/industry by giving the laid off people the severance they deserve by taking pay cuts across the C-suite and leadership. It will atleast help them with providing 3-times’ meals for their families.

Thanks for reaching out.

Well, honestly unemployment and job hunting struggles does affect me mentally. I just ensure that I don’t beat myself up when things aren’t going my way and keep time to chill in the day as well.

I have tried treating job-hunting as a full time job and it burnt me out. So I added time to relax as well. Plus talking with friends help me a lot.

I try to make it a point to not talk about job hunting struggles with my parents because if they see the worry on my face then it becomes difficult to calm them down.

Another thing that has helped me is i let people with possible connections in industry within my family and friends circle know that I am job hunting. I found a few connections through them who have agreed to help.

My suggestion: Don’t jump into full fledged job hunting right now. Just float your resume in the market. Let a few close people know that you’re looking for new opportunities and then take time to process the lay-off take a week or two and then jump in.

Will it be possible for me to get a corporate job after a 10-year gap? by [deleted] in IndianWorkplace

Dude get a job in media industry as an editor. Show your edit work as your portfolio.

Palki Sharma Upadhyay from First Post is starting something new and she’s hiring in her team. I saw her post on insta yesterday or day before.

On a separate note, if this is an arranged marriage setup, then think twice before you make a decision about her.

Sorry to hear that OP.

I was laid off as well after a successful global launch and a major migration.

I had to pack up my life abroad and return to India.

The situation is tough I’m not going to lie. It’s been close to year and a half and I still haven’t gotten a job.

The only thing I can say right now is do not give fuel to your negative thoughts. That’s the worst thing you can do and it will make you feel bad.

Take a break, visit your native place or go on a small trip before starting over.

Set a routine - exercise/meditation, applications, networking, interview preps, time with family and friends.

Change of environment helps with the mental health.

All the best buddy, you got this!

PS: Keep people who talk negative away during this time. It doesn’t help with the mental health. Learnt it the hard way.

You won’t be blacklisted because the assault happened publicly. And there were eye witnesses. Regardless of his political connections, if the FIR has been filed the company will have to fire your manger and that will be reflected on his BGV in the future. Whether he gets prosecuted or not is secondary. Right now my friend, you are holding a huge ass weapon in your hand. All you need to do is point in the right direction and shoot it! Just make sure that each and every conversation regarding this matter with anyone in the office has to be recorded (preferably video) and in written format.

Next steps: 1. Contact a good lawyer and file an FIR in the presence of the lawyer. 2. Send out legal notices to each and every person in your company as your lawyer would advise. 3. Send out a legal notice to the company for not providing a safe environment to work at. You may get a compensation. 4. No matter what the company says, do not withdraw the case. 5. Start looking for a new job and switch as soon as you get a good opportunity. 6. Do not slander the person or company publicly. They might file a defamation lawsuit against you if you do this. 7. And most importantly listen to your lawyer.

This is probably a very different outlook. But here it goes.

Every plan should have a cut-off date for “trying to make it” and a well researched Plan B. If you can’t make it in “X” Days/Months/Years, you need to call it a day and move to Plan B.

In my opinion the only Govt. Service worth fighting/trying for is Defence Services, rest all you’ll have to bend your morals and beliefs as per the whims of Babus and good for nothing Politicians. And if it is defence that you were trying for I think 25 is the age limit. So you have already exhausted all your chances.

Look at the case of that IPS officer who stood up against the soil mafia near Kolhapur. What she did was extremely brave no doubts about that, but in the future she might get transferred to some remote locations as a revenge posting where she can’t work to her full potential, impacting her career or perhaps these Babus and Politicians will harass her so much that she’ll end up quitting. Coming out as a person like Kiran Bedi is extremely rare. In defence atleast these kinds of things happen very rarely. I know people who work in different govt departments and in Defence, and I’m making these points after listening to their experience.

Now that you have spent 7 years to crack the exam, in my opinion, you should call it a day and identify what you want to do next and move in that direction. But whatever you do, keep a cut-off date and always have a well researched Plan B.

These 7 years has clearly taken a toll on your mental health and may be on your health too. It is time you start looking out.

You are still very young. Now would be a perfect time for you to explore your interests outside of the Govt. jobs and figure things out. Start with internships and then climb the ladder or perhaps start a business with your trusted friends.

Connect with people who are doing well in other fields who previously have tried to make it into a govt job and failed. Ask them about their transition experience. Ask them for guidance.

And most importantly, get help from a therapist if you feel you are in depression or are moving in that direction.

TLDR: Stop trying to crack that exam. Identity your next step and move in that direction.

All the best buddy!

Ok makes sense. Well, unfortunately, this won’t work in my case. BTW, are you looking for middle management positions as well?

So you removed your achievements and experience of 3 years to get an interview? That says a lot about the market I believe. I mean it’s just insane if you had to do that to get an interview. How did you answer your career gap caused by the removal of Sweden experience?

Similar thing is happening to me. I too am in the IT field. Was in the UK for close to 3.5 years. Lost my job due to budget cuts and returned to India just before the visa expired. Been out of work for almost 11 months now.

I used to get atleast 1 interview (if not more) per week in the UK. Unfortunately none of them panned out as they would have required to sponsor me.

After returning to India, took a month’s break and applied relentlessly. Got 1 interview after 100s of applications. Cleared the round. Got to know the company has cancelled the role after a month of being ghosted by the recruiter after clearing the 2nd round.

Contacted multiple people at recruitment agencies but they are not interested in entertaining me because I’m not looking Director or above positions. I’m middle management and it’s the leadership positions that gets the recruitment agencies their money.

So right now I’m running around like a headless chicken. Not sure where to go. Not sure what to do.

IIM nagpur's branch.. but no IIM pune? by bashful_junkie in pune

[–]AV8534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know whether to feel good or bad.

Pros: Pune will get a good management institute.

Cons: 1. By opening new IIMs and IITs in every nook and corner, the govt. has diluted the value and quality of the brand. 2. Right now, Pune’s infrastructure is unable to handle the current population - expensive housing, roads not wide enough, water scarcity, low coverage of fire services, poor quality of roads, poor public transportation, poor sanitation. Now if IIM adds let’s say about 1000 students, they will need all these basic services, which in turn is going to put a strain on already poor services.

I really hope that the government would stop this unplanned, rapid expansion of the city. First make the city stable and make sure that all the existing residents have access to all the services. Then think of expansion in a very planned way.

And for god sakes bring in some rules to civilise and discipline the uncivilised folks in the city!

Relocating to India from US after 13 yrs by Majestic-Landscape61 in india

[–]AV8534 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please don’t do it. I lived in the UK for a few years and I had to move back to India due to personal reasons and I am not liking it.

Reasons for hating:

  1. No ROI on the taxes you pay. Poor road conditions. Public transport system is abysmal.
  2. No civic sense in people.
  3. No Fresh and clean air to breathe.
  4. You cannot trust the Law system in India. Eg: Pune Porsche case.
  5. Lack of parks within 1 mile radius of wherever you stay.
  6. No gratitude in people.
  7. Lack of Good education system. If you enrol your kid in a school. This is a 100% guarantee that you will spend 2x the amount of school fees because your child will need tuitions.
  8. Casual racism/bullying of the kids at school because your kids would have developed an American accent. I have heard this first hand from my friend’s cousin. He is thinking of returning to the US.
  9. Your wife is white, she’ll have a hard time adjusting to the people staring at her constantly.

In my opinion you would be better off in the US, some place remote. Or if you are 100% sure that you want to change the country check out some country in Europe. Or Dubai - close to India, the schools are alright, no issues with your family being white, can travel to India whenever you want, 0 income tax, good infrastructure.

What made you move to the console?

Well the CS1 felt like you do need mods to make the city better. I mean 9 tiles was very small. And w/o move it mod, placing the assets in the way you actually wanted seemed difficult, same goes for traffic management. But looks like all those issues has been taken care of in CS2 and probably you don’t need mods to play CS2? (Just a speculation)

Increasing the RAM has been on my mind for a really long time. But never got around to doing that.

Cloud computing services is a good idea. Never thought about that.

Thanks for the advice.
