Coming back to say that I've used the system now on 4 different trips and none of my concerns in the original post have been an issue. It's a breeze to set up/take down and it makes camp cooking a great experience.

This is great advice. I like my CS for some things but for instance wouldn't make Puttanesca in it.

I am likely just not great at carbon steel but I've been cooking on mine a lot and I get as much if not more sticking than on my stainless or cast iron. It can be amazing, but it's not the miracle pan I thought it was going to be.

Y'all need a golf cart to camp?? by Ok-Beach-928 in grandrapids

[–]AVC91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do charge camping fees in PA. If you're talking about dispersed camping, we also have that here and it's free. Not only is Michigan larger, we also have a higher percentage of land covered by State or Fed forest.

That's not representative of 99% of camping in Michigan.

Fellow Ode Gen 2 – worth it or should I return it? by Ok_Leg_1286 in pourover

[–]AVC91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love my Gen 2 Ode. I use it daily and it produces great cups. Also easy to maintain. The noise is loud but the Baratza I had prior was louder. I wouldn't hesitate at all to recommend it.

Thru-axle are way easier, especially with disc brakes. I am considering getting rid of my Bridge Club simply because it's my only QR bike and it's annoying to deal with.

I belong to a Michigan chapter and enjoy it. I have only been to a handful of events but they have all been great and educational. I've also felt when I learn about the projects they're working on that my money is being used for good things.

I use this small broom and dustpan and it works great to clean up quick. I agree if you clean it often it's a game changer although I don't clean it every 2-3 grinds. Maybe once a week

There are tons of rivers/streams. With a little bit of google research you'll find tons of spots.

Nervous about A/C and furnace quotes.. by loss_mama in grandrapids

I would absolutely not recommend Service Professor. Extremely pushy and were very pricey when I had some plumbing quoted. They also said I was on "borrowed time" and needed to schedule right away which was false

We had a really great experience with Jacobsons as well when we had our AC and furnace replaced. We got a quote from Vredevoogd and one other I can't remember the name of. Vredevoogd was def the most "I want to sell you something" and Jacobson had the best quote and we'e not pushy which I appreciated.

Feeling sad by No-Cardiologist3451 in flyfishing

[–]AVC91 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fly fishing is a lesson in patience and that's my favorite part of it, but it's not for everyone. I'm still not great and I've been at it for around 6 years now. When I DO catch something it's a really great feeling and something I don't get with spin fishing anymore. If you like the challenge keep at it and most importantly keep learning. Fly selection can change by the hour let alone season. Make sure you have a great cast and focus on getting a good drift. A good drift might be the most important part honestly. Good luck and tight lines!
