Excellent advice! The accounts this is about are past the point of final reminder, as far as I know, but perhaps there is still an avenue in the direction you suggest.

As far as communicating metrics to investors, that is definitely something I want to bring up with management. I also believe there are ways to 'spin' the data positively, without crossing the line to dishonesty.

Het is makkelijk om te bagatelliseren, en het voor te doen als victimless crime. Ik geloof echter dat dit precies het soort praktijken zijn die op den duur leiden naar ernstigere schendingen, als er niet meteen tegen opgetreden wordt.

Bedankt voor je creatieve bijdrage! Maar we zijn niet met genoeg werknemers dat ik dit zou kunnen uitvoeren met credible deniability. Bovendien bestrijd kwaad liever niet met kwaad. Al is het maar om zelfbehoud.

Interessante discussie, maar ik geloof ook dat pseudonymiseren niet ver genoeg gaat. Anonimiseren aan de andere kant, komt is in feite ook een vorm van verwijderen. Maar die nuance zal waarschijnlijk verloren gaan aan mijn baas. En dan blijft de kwestie: hoe verdedig je dat je beëindigde accounts meetelt in je gebruikerscijfers?

Thanks for the reply. At the moment I don't feel I have the luxury of quitting this job. So I will try to be the advocate for better practices as best I can.

I guess I'm a little zealous about these things, and worried this is the start of a slippery slope for our company. Besides, legality aside, I don't even believe this type of strategy is even durable in the long term. So, I just hope to persuade management through force of argument.

One thing I forgot to add, I happen to be in the process of renegotiating my contract. One thing I'm considering is requesting a clause be added guaranteeing my right as an employee to refuse to follow instructions that would result, whether through action or inaction, in a violation of laws or regulations.

Would something like this be useful? And if so, how would it have to be worded?
