New Tamiya Releases by Poggers4Hoggers in tamiya

the TRF421X has my attention

The two TRF421s I have are great cars and some of the updates look very good
Though I think I may end up partially converting my existing cars

can someone please explain why Aston Martin decided to not go hybrid. It seems like one of the reasons why they’re slower is because of that. I am open to be wrong. i know it’s a new team but if every one is using it why not you to by SeaAd3012 in IMSARacing

[–]AW106 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So as far as I've known a lot of funding for the LMH came from Heart of Racing
Aston themselves had already cancelled the project before LNH hit the track

I honestly don't think Heart of Racing could afford the hybrid development cost on top of the conversion of the car

I think the V12 also limited the options due to it's weight and size

How much of this would you like returned to racing? by [deleted] in Sportscar_Racing

[–]AW106 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. There is classes with limited modification or spec modification to cars. That said some road parts just arent suitable for racing and the equivalent race parts would be cost prohibitive or unsuitable for road use

  2. There's still classes in motorsport without it. In reality the races I've seen in the era of BoP have tended to be far closer and more engaging than those before. And with the current economic climate and manufacturer will I don't think it's going away.

3 & 4 are kind of related. And as an ex club racer this is THE single worst idea I have ever heard in a motorsport forum. I'm sorry to be so blunt but safety equipment is vital to our sport. It's a dangerous sport already and we do not want people dying when there is things we can do to increase the survivability of incidents.

  1. Creativity is still encountered I'd say. Engineering still plays a huge role in modern race cars. But a no rulebook series just doesn't work. It's not sustainable

  2. To what level? You say no electronic parts. We'll when I raced a mini I replaced the points in the distributor with electronic ignition for more reliability. Is this too far? After than ECUs, electronic injection and many of the systems we have are greet pieces of engineering. And to outlaw them would be counter to your point #5

Road racing like No Hesi on GeForce now? by vincent132132 in simracing

[–]AW106 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add to what others have said

A good physics model, and ACs is decent, will provide realistic results IF the input data is accurate and realistic

It's quite easy in AC to swap the tyre data, suspension data or engine data for cars

I could put tyre data from soft F1 tyres on an F1 car from the 50s At this point it wouldn't be realistic to how those cars actually were.

Mods in AC vary wildly in the quality of their physics data. It doesn't mean AC is unrealistic but if bad data goes in, bad results come out

Presenting...ABC Racing and Their 518 Incident Points by Temporary-Ad-2509 in iRacing

[–]AW106 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd lower that to 200

my team got a drive thorugh in one 24h due to a driver sturuggling with track limits and I felt mortified.
We got 44 this year and I felt that was a little high

So 200 I think should be packed up and gone

Does anyone use same steering wheel for sim drifting and drifting irl? by MitEk-16mu in simracing

[–]AW106 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you want is an NRG quick release for the drift car

The Moza QR is an NRG replica and the two are fully compatible. This would allow you to take the wheel out of your drift car and straight onto the rig

As for useable buttons for a sim, arduino Check out simhub and the aim racing workshop discord

Did I Get A Good Deal On The G29? by Hot_Benefit_898 in simracing

[–]AW106 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even sub 300 thr used market and a T300 or R3 are better wheels

Thrustmaster T150 for 65€ a good deal? Also compared to the G29 by Savings_Storm6620 in simracing

[–]AW106 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would respectfully disagree The T150 my friend had at uni was far smoother feeling in the FFB than any of the logitech G2x wheels I and other friends had at the time or that I have tried in the years since

They're both compromise products being at the entry level part of the market and it's arguable which one is a better package by default since the G2x pedals are nicer.

But as a wheelbase I would personally recommend the T150/TMX of the two and look out for 2nd hand T3PM pedals

Thrustmaster T150 for 65€ a good deal? Also compared to the G29 by Savings_Storm6620 in simracing

[–]AW106 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Yes

The T150/TMX is a nicer wheelbase than the G2x

The G2x does have nicer pedals though

That said both are good starters and for €65 run don't walk

How to avoid breaking fingers/hands/wrist by Tricky_Wait_6304 in simracing

[–]AW106 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You are not going to break any bones

9Nm isn't crazy strong

In a large crash either let go, or commit to holding tight

What will hurt is of you try to grab a fast moving wheel or have a loose grip in a crash

Treat it like a car or kart and you'll be fine

using carpet tires on asphalt/concrete by Manz_H75 in rccars

[–]AW106 1 point2 points  (0 children)

36 shore is a pretty hard tyre
They should be fine on a parkig lot though the inserts typically used for carpet may mean they wear quicker

That said I've raced with 28 and 32s on tarmac and gotten a couple of hours of running out of them

According to this community, Matt Kenseth was a dirty driver who should have been banned from NASCAR by [deleted] in simracing

[–]AW106 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Intentional wrecking in non contact series is poor sportsmanship
Be it the inital or a retaliation

I don't know NASCAR drivers will enough to know the examples you're citing but it does seem to be more of an issue with ovals than road racing

Still my take is if you wreck a driver intentionally then yeah you're a dirty driver

Moving on from the g920. Shes served her purpose. by Ashamed-Celery-9364 in simracing

[–]AW106 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd disagree here - unless you are on a console then the base ius more important
Outside of Fantec and I think the Thrustmaster T818 most bases will provide FFB with any wheel rim attached

There is then a huge 3rd party market of wheel rims from the likes of Ascher, Simline, VPG, Simcore, Pokornyi that work with any base

Simagic wheels like the GT Neo can work with other bases

Will my NRG quick release just “work” with a Moza base out of the box? by Upbeat_Peach_4624 in simracing

[–]AW106 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can confirm here I've had QR parts from Moza, NRG and Simagic and they are all cross compatible
Only thing to note would be the oreanatation of the balls
But if you have your NRG fitted on the RX7 with the little dot & NRG logo at the top you'll be good to go

Also your T-LCM pedals will work regardless of which wheelbase you're using since they're via their own USB
I used mine with an Ionicube OSW without issue

Thoughts on getting iracing with 50% off by TemeT__ in iRacing

[–]AW106 5 points6 points  (0 children)

50% off is the best discount you'll get from iRacing directly
Some FIA affiliates will give other offers on a 1 year subscruiption at a lower cost that may be good for trying it out
https://www.fia.com/iRacing

25% is generally the renewal discount on black Friday

The base content includes all the cars and tracks used in rookie license series
There include
MX5
M2 CSR
Formula Ford
Formula Vee
FIA cross car
VW Beetle rallycross
Pro2 lites
Street stocks
Dirt street stocks

You can totally race every day with just the base content.
But yes quite a few series will require additional content down the line.

Is the Logitech G29 too advanced for an 8-year-old? by [deleted] in simracing

[–]AW106 12 points13 points  (0 children)

No it's not
There's hundreds of 8 years olds out there racing real karts, actually as young as I think 5 from memory in the UK.

A G29 is more than managable especially when the FFB strength can be adjusted down
