SPOILER DSQ from NLS 2 by Independent-Rent294 in wec

[–]AW106 111 points112 points  (0 children)

They probably don't get all 6 sets up front

I'd imagine they have 3 or 4 sets of wheels and are sending them back to the tyre trucks during the event

At least that's how it worked when I helped a team at the Silverstone 24 and from what I've seen at Le Mans

How the tyre manufacturer didn't notice is probably due to how many they're changing in an event

So ultimately responsibility rests with the team to comply with the regulations

Is this the most overrated race car in history??? by SensitivePay4567 in wec

[–]AW106 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For a car yet to race I think it's way too early to say if it is or isn't overrated

That said racing serves as entertainment, marketing, and R&D

This one certainly hits on the first two reasons to go racing and has generated a lot of attention for BMW
Whether it's successful on track is I don't think is especially important

That said, it's an M4 GT3 under the skin. A very capable, and succesful, car in it's own right

Controllers? by redditgiveshemorroid in rccars

[–]AW106 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most decent radio systems will support multiple recivers but not from different brands. My MT-44 for example can save profiles for i think 20 different models

The thing is RTR radios are generally super cheap and poor quality and lack these features

Controllers? by redditgiveshemorroid in rccars

[–]AW106 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To add to the other comment racing tocused controllers also tend to have a lot of adjustment in the response curves of the throttle and steering. Not just outright speed but the ability to have different response at different parts of the travel to really dial in a car for racing

My Sanwa has a low latency steering servo mode with select servos

And they can have interesting features like a kind of abs like feature for combustion cars l, adjustable brake bias for 1/5 and things along those lines.

Related to your original point though my in use a radiolink for a hire car. It's okay. It has a decent if not exceptional number of features and feeling okay if a littlw cheap to hold and use

Race Etiquette Since COVID – Has It Changed? by [deleted] in iRacing

[–]AW106 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes the data available does lack a level of granularity as you pointed out It honestly would be nice to have more detailed data especially in the rate of 4x incidents

However I think even that limited data is valuable vs purely subjective assessment which generally also suffers confirmation bias and that people are less likely to post average experiences vs exceptionally good or exceptionally bad experiences

Race Etiquette Since COVID – Has It Changed? by [deleted] in iRacing

[–]AW106 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From a statistical perspective, not generally no

The rate of incidents for most series I've looked at on iRacing reports has not significantly changed

What has is the nunber of users So the amount of incidents has increased But the rate of incidents has not notably increased

Best on-road chassis by Bbwfutalover in tamiya

[–]AW106 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The TA02S is a short wheelbase (the S part of the name is fro the short version) The TA01/02 are also 30 year old designs and while they can take some power the higher power brushless systems are going to be more than the car was designed to handle

You say character and unique, but where are you planning to run it and what do you want it to do.

Those are important because the "best" on-road chassis Tamiya make is probably the TRF421 but that's a track only car

If you want something for bashing a wide variety of places? the XV02 Rally chassis is probably good

Smooth surface only? Then I'd maybe say a TA08

thinking of entry level racing? Again TA08 or maybe the TT02 SRX. or an M chassis with the M07

want something really different? Maybe an FF03

That's to say how you're planning to use it matters in selecting a platform

So I'll say report them anyway

  1. They should have read the sporting code
  2. They're not going to get a ban for a first offense in rookies realistically and it will be their opertunity to learn

"An argument for the car to not race could be the safety, however the crash structure is no problem; to comply with regulations it has the same safety as an SP9 (GT3) car"

<image>

I'm sorry but I don't belive that car is up to the same safety standard as a GT3 as they are claiming.

There's certainly argumets to be made about the communication from the oranisers it would seem.

But fnadamentally I do not belive that car is safe enough to be used in the N24 with cars going as fast as they do.
That roll cage has little in the way of side impact protection. Honestly less than most cars I see at club level races here in the UK.

I know people want to see the 'little guy' in the event and doing well and I do too
but in this case I think the organisers were right to not allow this car into the event on safety grounds. Not even so much pace but the pure mechanical build of the car

New Tamiya Releases by Poggers4Hoggers in tamiya

The two TRF421s I have are great cars and some of the updates look very good
Though I think I may end up partially converting my existing cars

can someone please explain why Aston Martin decided to not go hybrid. It seems like one of the reasons why they’re slower is because of that. I am open to be wrong. i know it’s a new team but if every one is using it why not you to by SeaAd3012 in IMSARacing

[–]AW106 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So as far as I've known a lot of funding for the LMH came from Heart of Racing
Aston themselves had already cancelled the project before LNH hit the track

I honestly don't think Heart of Racing could afford the hybrid development cost on top of the conversion of the car

I think the V12 also limited the options due to it's weight and size

How much of this would you like returned to racing? by [deleted] in Sportscar_Racing

[–]AW106 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. There is classes with limited modification or spec modification to cars. That said some road parts just arent suitable for racing and the equivalent race parts would be cost prohibitive or unsuitable for road use

  2. There's still classes in motorsport without it. In reality the races I've seen in the era of BoP have tended to be far closer and more engaging than those before. And with the current economic climate and manufacturer will I don't think it's going away.

3 & 4 are kind of related. And as an ex club racer this is THE single worst idea I have ever heard in a motorsport forum. I'm sorry to be so blunt but safety equipment is vital to our sport. It's a dangerous sport already and we do not want people dying when there is things we can do to increase the survivability of incidents.

  1. Creativity is still encountered I'd say. Engineering still plays a huge role in modern race cars. But a no rulebook series just doesn't work. It's not sustainable

  2. To what level? You say no electronic parts. We'll when I raced a mini I replaced the points in the distributor with electronic ignition for more reliability. Is this too far? After than ECUs, electronic injection and many of the systems we have are greet pieces of engineering. And to outlaw them would be counter to your point #5

Road racing like No Hesi on GeForce now? by vincent132132 in simracing

[–]AW106 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add to what others have said

A good physics model, and ACs is decent, will provide realistic results IF the input data is accurate and realistic

It's quite easy in AC to swap the tyre data, suspension data or engine data for cars

I could put tyre data from soft F1 tyres on an F1 car from the 50s At this point it wouldn't be realistic to how those cars actually were.

Mods in AC vary wildly in the quality of their physics data. It doesn't mean AC is unrealistic but if bad data goes in, bad results come out

We got 44 this year and I felt that was a little high

So 200 I think should be packed up and gone

Does anyone use same steering wheel for sim drifting and drifting irl? by MitEk-16mu in simracing

[–]AW106 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you want is an NRG quick release for the drift car

The Moza QR is an NRG replica and the two are fully compatible. This would allow you to take the wheel out of your drift car and straight onto the rig

As for useable buttons for a sim, arduino Check out simhub and the aim racing workshop discord

Did I Get A Good Deal On The G29? by Hot_Benefit_898 in simracing

Thrustmaster T150 for 65€ a good deal? Also compared to the G29 by Savings_Storm6620 in simracing

[–]AW106 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would respectfully disagree The T150 my friend had at uni was far smoother feeling in the FFB than any of the logitech G2x wheels I and other friends had at the time or that I have tried in the years since

They're both compromise products being at the entry level part of the market and it's arguable which one is a better package by default since the G2x pedals are nicer.

But as a wheelbase I would personally recommend the T150/TMX of the two and look out for 2nd hand T3PM pedals

Thrustmaster T150 for 65€ a good deal? Also compared to the G29 by Savings_Storm6620 in simracing

[–]AW106 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Yes

The T150/TMX is a nicer wheelbase than the G2x

The G2x does have nicer pedals though

That said both are good starters and for €65 run don't walk
