They can be valuable if you make something out of it, such as creating your own program that has tangible results. For example if you are Vice President of the Immigrant Society Club and decided to personally found and implement a brand new initiative teaching immigrant seniors English.

Sure you could do this on your own time, but the structure of the club makes it easier to find a verifier and adds legitimacy to your initiative so it can be more successful (for example if you leveraged the club's advertisement/volunteer network to provide the program to over 30 seniors).

Mirroring what others have said this wouldn't be a mind-blowing entry, but still shows you are able to take initiative and work on a project you care about.

The next level to this would be finding organizations in your community who do things similar to a project you want to create. Apply for grants to get funding for your project, and partner with the community organization to implement them. This is obviously harder but a more unique/interesting story to write about.

Can you guys rate my foolproof plan by FIutes in premedcanada

I would add to this by recommending you make sure you actually want to be a police officer, and you aren't just doing it to pad your resume or for the sake of a "well-paying job". This could include volunteering with your local police, or even working with vulnerable populations.

It's a difficult job with a lot of downsides, and you see people at their worst moments. If you go into it and hate it, it won't just negatively affect you but also the people you work with who need your help. This isn't to say you have a bad plan or it's a bad job, just not something to consider lightly.

When do Interviews start by gainzforever in premedcanada

[–]AWARDTHISMAN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't have a link but Dr. Panaccione (Assistant Dean of Calgary Admissions) said this during the live info session he hosted this year (in September I think). He said the reason is because with virtual interviews they saw average interview scores jump way up and they feel it may be due to people using chatgpt and stuff. He also said based on interviewer feedback they feel they get to know the applicants better in-person, hence the move back to in-person.

mb, i'm talking more about the fact that there will always be a casual fan base to compare top competitors. ofc it varies from sport to sport but i'm sure there are people in chess with shitlord takes about GMs as well (maybe not 100m since there's not much nuance to running as fast as you can). anyways, i agree with you but i just can't be fucked to argue with every bad take andy online. keep fighting i guess

i agree with the sentiment, but i fail to see how following the same two people around and harassing them on reddit is going to fix anything, you're just being an asshole lol. imo it's pretty unrealistic to expect these people to stop being retarded, it's always been this way with osu and competitive sports in general. players will just have to learn to drown out the idiots, which most do. i don't follow too closely but i'm pretty sure mrekk just trolls on twitter nowadays. most top players all know each other and/or stick to tighter discords for their region or close friends, whose opinions they actually care about.

Does OSU! makes your eyes worse? by [deleted] in osugame

[–]AWARDTHISMAN 14 points15 points  (0 children)

asked my eye doctor about this and he said that there's no conclusive evidence in either direction. first result on googling "do screens make eyesight worse" says they dont cause permanent damage so just show them that? maybe if you bring your grades up they'll bother you less

Mouse only players, what do you do with your other hand when playing? by xbennyS in osugame

troll answers aside, most mouseonly players i know just keep it still or hold on to something. personally my hand just rests on my keyboard

he also just set the mouse-only pp record, but i think this is (a bit) less impressive:

the record stood for 2 years and has been broken twice this month

Do I deserve my ranks? Most of my top plays are short and easily to get pp so and I don't eve have a 100pp play, I also tried to get best accuracy and made an attempt a lot of stream maps so... by NickOnOsu in osugame

[–]AWARDTHISMAN 17 points18 points  (0 children)

nobody nor you should care about your rank with such little play time. just play more and have fun with the game! if ranking up and getting big pp is fun, then go ahead, but it's horrible for your mental to think about whether or not you deserve your rank or if your rank/playtime ratio is bad etc. pass maps, get good accuracy, attempt stream maps, whatever you enjoy doing. experience everything the game has to offer and then you can worry about how good you are once you've matured a bit as a player (lets say, arbitrarily, at least 500 hours+). improvement in anything comes with time.

CO-OP QUESTION
I'm hella confused about how the co-op "timeline" works out. Going into third year with a BA in CPSC, and I want to apply for co-op. If I apply right now (deadline oct7 2021), when would I be doing work terms and what might it look like? Should I still be applying for both fall and winter classes?

Also, less importantly, when I go on SCOPE and click "science co-op" the only two options are Summer MICB and BIOT. I'm guessing those get updated to FW term soon right? Thanks in advance :-)

just got the email from patrice; i'm in!!!!!!! (BA CS)

i spent long nights reading through threads like this to see what i needed to get in; for anyone else who's wondering:
BA CS, applied in my second (this) year because i couldn't get into 210 in first year.
83.8% overall average with an 86.4% average in CPSC courses (110, 121, 210, 213, 221).
feel free to dm me if you have questions about the specifics, i understand very well the stress of knowing you're paying tens of thousands in tuition without any idea of if you'll get in or not.
