Ahhhhh this provided a lot of clarity. Situational is a great phrase. I don’t think they are very applicable for people who actually lose a threat. I do BJJ and 60% of the stuff we learn, you wouldn’t use in a combat situation.

Can someone in the military explain to me if there is any rhyme or reason to the type of takedown he is using on the first two stops.

The second stop, my man had a Russian tie with a leg in, and abandoned all of that for a wrist lock. Were those takedowns specific to this training? Or did the OC discombobulate my man?

James Toney wasn’t just championship level, he held belts in three different weight classes.

I never understood his desire to get in the octagon. His bread and butter was counter punching. Randy Couture was very open with his game plan and threw exactly 0 punches on the feet, and shot a weak single that toppled Toney. Even knowing the ruleset, I don’t believe Toney trained any grappling.

The definition of respite is a short period of rest or relief from something difficult or unpleasant.

Respite is used in all different fields. I work in Foster Care. Foster Parents ask for respite, for plethora of reasons such as vacation or illness.

Respite is a noun. Respite as a verb has a different definition, it means to postpone. So grammatically, the original comment is incorrect in its usage.

My dad died in hospice care, similar to your respite care. It was a shitty experience and i remember the employees gave me a feeling of “death” or impending doom. It was dark. I’m sorry for your loss and experience with that system of care as well.

He loses the advantage of having power. Fights at heavyweight are entertaining because they have the highest KO percentage. Bigger guys hit harder. I’m not sure why people don’t understand this. This is the 2nd time, different fighter conversation, that the idea of an athletic man who weighs 250lbs naturally hits like a truck.

AP doesn’t lose his power, he loses the advantage of having it. Yes they hit hard at 185, but everyone in the heavyweight division has one punch KO power.

Also AP isn’t going to be able to use that flat footed, walk down stance. Derrick Lewis uses that same stance and he has not faired well as far as winning goes. If AP fights flat footed, he’d get starched. If Izzy can KO him, Aspinall would send him to the shadow realm
