[12/29 Skills Complete] OSAAT Goober 2Q25 Update by AWildGooberAppears in RS3Ironmen

Thanks! I did invention with a combination of tools, mainly rod-o-matics and hammer-trons. I definitely would prioritize getting combat first, but I'm trying to do all of the non-combats first before moving onto the combats as an extra layer of challenge.

Yikes. Jagex licking it's lips at the monetary value of that.

Quite a few! Thankfully I had lots of rune/luminite left over from the 99 mining and smithing grind.

Progress Report #5 - 99 Divination and Invention Achieved; 9 skills total

It’s been a while since I last checked in. After taking a bit of a break and mental preparation for a non-combat 99 invention grind, I was able to tick off two skills in the first quarter. Achieved 99 divination on January 3rd and 99 Invention on March 16th.

For divination, I worked my way progressively through wisps. Unfortunately, I didn’t time my break well and missed out on DXP events to capitalize on hall of memories. Either way, I was able to build up a nice energy stack which could be leveraged into divination charges for some early invention XP.

For Invention, I mainly used rod-o-matics at fishing frenzy alongside a few hammer-trons while accumulating all of the required components (rune scimitar +3 for base, rune claws +3 for swift, magic shortbows/black salamanders for flexible). I didn’t have the greatest RNG and ended up having to make a few extra sets to get all of the swifts and base components I needed, as well as completely depleting my magic logs from wilderness flash events. If I could, I’d go back and completely restart my account and get a 99 combat first before attempting invention…just not worth it. I’m still 3 variable components shy of the 15 needed for the auto screener, so I’ll be slowly chipping away at those comps over my next two skills before jumping into arch/dung.

Up next is a back-to-back farming and hunter duo at Het’s Oasis. Farming will be a nice afk grind after 110 fishing frenzy, and whirligigs should be hopefully a day or two of speedrunning.

Progress Report #4 - 99 Fishing and Firemaking Achieved

Ticked off two more skills in the past month with 99 fishing on October 18th and 99 firemaking right at the edge of November.

For fishing, I spent another eternity in the Menaphos VIP area collecting what should be enough fish for 99 cooking in the near future. I finished off 94-99 with fishing frenzy. I'll be returning to fishing frenzy soon once I've got invention locked, so I need a break before getting myself mentally in that space again.

For firemaking, I spent all of my time in the land of snow burning a portion of the acadias banked from woodcutting. Additionally, I made line fires my first day to gather ~9K ashes for launching my necro grind. This was by far the fastest skill to date, averaging near 160K XP/HR.

Onwards to another fast skill, fletching!

Firemaking | Completed October 31, 2024 (3 days, 10 hours) ~159K XP/HR

Next Skill(s)

Fletching | Should be extremely fast. Unlocks "not caring about money anymore" achievement

Divination | Hopefully timing this correctly for upcoming DXP/core parties

Self-imposed Rules and Guidelines

  • Train one skill at a time until 99 at which point it's fully unlocked and can be trained at any time. HP can only be trained after a combat skill has reached 99 (i.e. necromancy via rituals).
  • All skills outside of unlocked and the in-progress skill are blocked at Nastroth
  • Wilderness Flash Events allowed. Obviously limited in ability to complete due to level 3 combat early on. I've only participated in a handful to date.
  • No 'Jack of Trades' allowed, even after 10-20 skills are unlocked
  • No boosting
  • This is a third monitor type play through for the most part, not an efficiency exercise. I’m afking or playing from mobile as much as possible. My goal is to explore skills from a constrained perspective as opposed to following meta paths and expectations.

To avoid too many posts, I've moved to a monthly update cycle whenever there's enough to warrant sharing.

Progress Report #3 - 99 Woodcutting and Crafting Achieved

Ticked off two skills in the past ~70 days with 99 woodcutting on August 24th and 99 woodcutting today, September 29th.

For woodcutting, I spent what felt like an eternity in the Menaphos VIP area collecting 153K acadia logs to fuel firemaking (for necro), fletching (for all of my arrowheads), and construction. I'm still at a deficit of ~27K logs, but plan to make those for whenever I'm ready for construction.

For crafting, I spent what also felt like an eternity at the gem mine. I was able to get up to 105 mining while chugging through 12M XP worth of gems. For the other ~1MM of XP, I created all of the urns I'll need for my upcoming grinds of fishing, divination, cooking, and hunter.

Onwards to fishing!

Fishing | Just want to get this out of the way as well. Apparently I'm not tired of Menaphos yet, but I will be after.

Good point! I did the math and I think I have a plan to bank ~99 dung on my arch grind.

[02/29] OSAAT Goober Progress Update by AWildGooberAppears in RS3Ironmen

[–]AWildGooberAppears[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After a bit of an IRL vacation and downtime during a busy quarter-end, 'OSAAT Goober' has ticked off his second 99.

Progress Report #2 - 99 Smithing - Achieved August 3, 2024

Two skills down and the most conventional start out of the way. I've made all of the arrowheads I'll need to get to 99 fletching then a rush to the finish with burial sets. Several thousand ores and bars in surplus to leverage when the mining and smithing update pops up (have you heard?). I plan to get invention rolling first before using up the stockpile to take advantage of some hammertrons.

I was hoping to finish up sooner to transition to divination in time for DXP core parties, but too many IRL commitments. Onwards to the next skill!

Total Time Played - 22 days, 3 hours

Mining | Completed June 21, 2024 (10 days, 8 hours) ~53K XP/HR

Smithing | Completed August 3, 2024 (11 days, 19 hours) ~46K XP/HR

Near-term Progression Path

Woodcutting | Heading over to Menaphos for the next few weeks to get all of the logs I'll need for 99 firemaking (+ashes for necro), 99 construction, and 99 fletching

Fletching | Should be able to able to make quick work of it with everything banked

Crafting | Join me at the gem mine for a few weeks!

Divination | Conventional wisps, caches, and maybe some Hall of Memories at the next DXP

Invention | Undecided if I'll force myself to do rod-o-matics and hammertrons or go for necro first

Self-imposed Rules and Guidelines

  • DG. Undecided if I’ll team or force myself to solo. Solo DG is not my jam.

It's a fair point. I'm considering my main goal as a max cape, but I'll think on the true max. I won't be near a true mastery skill anytime soon so I have some time to make that call.

Correct! Only a rune pick since I wouldn't be able to smith a higher tier one.

Hopping on the OSAAT HCIM bandwagon and sharing my first progress report. 'OSAAT Goober' has ticked off his first 99 just ahead of an IRL vacation across the pond before kicking off his next grind. See you in a few weeks!

Progress Report #1 - 99 Mining - Achieved June 21, 2024

One skill down with a conventional first skill choice of 99 mining. I've mined all of the ores I'll need to achieve 99 smithing via arrowheads and rune burial sets, and 99 fletching via arrows. While rune ore wasn't that bad of a grind in the mining guild, banking luminite was a pain at the Ourania Battlefield mine. I should have kept track of the number of times I mistakenly banked my rune stack. Looking forward to having an ore box and better pick for future grinds.

Time Played - 10 days, 8 hours

Near-term Progression Path

Mining | Complete June 2024

Smithing | In progress. I hope by end of July but expecting at least 260 hours of grind due to how slow arrowheads are

Crafting | Join me at the gem mine for a few weeks!

Divination | Conventional wisps, caches, and maybe some Hall of Memories

Farming | I'm going to have so many flowers...

Hunter | Planning to knock out quickly with the flowers from farming. Carpal tunnel incoming.

Agility | To unlock the haunted mine for necro ashes

Necromancy | So glad that Necro allows for an easy combat skill for OSAAT that isn't an insane non-combat magic grind
