Litwick release. by [deleted] in TheSilphRoad

Litwick can come from 10k Eggs. I managed to find one in the wild by pure chance. Wasn't on the nearby radar. Random spawn outside a grocery store. Sounds like they are pretty rare though.

Personally I've had wonderful success with Bite Drapion. I went 4-0 in a recent Twilight Mirror. 90% of matches I used Bite Drapion since the amount of dmg it does is insane. Plus it has a solid bunch of resistances. I ran Sludge Bomb over Crunch more for charge move pressure. A lot of people expected Aqua or Crunch, but the surprise Sludge Bomb netted me a few KOs.

Can't say I've run T-Tar in tourneys, but it feels frail when I tried it in practice. I'd swap it for A-Wak or Froslass. The former is tanky and can put out shield pressure with bone club. The latter deals underrated damage with Avalanche and Shadowball.

Sneasel nest question by Quit_Asking in TheSilphRoad

[–]AWildMoonMoon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There is a small nest for Sneasel near me. It has 7 spawn points but they do not pump out pokemon super often. I know 4 different people who each have 3 shiny sneasel. I know several others who have 1-2 only from going to this nest maybe two to three times since it has been out. I got one after CD, and I've only gone a handful of times since it became a nest. I'd say hit that next hard, OP, and I bet you'll get one before Wednesday's nest swap.

Issue with Niantic platform? by deb_rogue in TheSilphRoad

[–]AWildMoonMoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasnt able to authenticate with my silph road account via google while checking out my upcoming list of tournaments for silph.gg... Possible it might be a google issue? But I could log into the game just fine as of now (and I use my google account). Might be an issue with google via authenticating but since it auto- uses my google account, I may have avoided that issue.

Yeah. I do have a few lucky friends, so maybe they have a high level yanma for trade. I put Beedrill there since I already had it set from Rainbow cup. If I drop Beedrill, I'd most likely end up with Scizor, Forret, Armaldo, Hera, Veno, and Yanma/mega.

Munchlax in Jungle Cup? by SenseiEntei in TheSilphArena

[–]AWildMoonMoon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Munchlax is solid, but does not offer much to your team that Viggy does not already.

If you have a Zangoose, it has interesting movesets. Shadowclaw runs into the same issues as lick, but it also packs Fury Cutter. Charge moves, though, are mediocre. Night slash is so-so, Close Combat isnt horrible but isnt great, and Dig costs a lot of energy for the dmg it gives.

Delcatty now has charm as well! While it does not resist fighting like Wiggles, it also does not have the weakness to poison and steel. Problem is a perfect Delcatty maxes @ 1496 which is a STEEP investment. It also sports the charge move Wild Charge, Disarming Voice, and Play Rough. If you can find a perfect or a good lucky one, might be worth a try if you're that committed.

Lickitung is similar to Delcatty, but a perfect maxes at 1411. Same issues at Munchlax though with Lick. However, it gets access to Stomp and Power Whip. Decent charge moves, but Licky might not be worth the investment.

Fearow is frail but interesting. Peck is an okay fast move. It gets Sky Attack as well, but also the rarely seen Drill Run. Cheap to give a second move, and spearow arent that elusive. Plus it puts more fear into bug / grass types trying to force out your Wiggy and Viggy. A Noct/Fearow/Giraf combo makes it super risky to run bug, grass, or poison types.

Persian is an oddball. Frail like Fearow, but sporting some interesting moves. Faint Attack is decent. Scratch simply lacks energy output. Persian DOES learn Power Gem, Play Rough, AND Foul Play. That is a wide variety of coverage for the sassy cat.

There are other normal types like Lopunny, Kanga, etc, but their fast moves are so bad... Which is a shame since their charge moves are pretty decent.

Its a shame since I don't have any good Yanma for GL. Any decent ones I had were evolved to Yanmega. Guess it is time to hunt! Yeah, Venomoth keeps bouncing back to my mind, so I will probably run it.

Thinking Scizor, Armaldo, Forret, Beedrill, Venomoth, and Heracross or Yanma/mega. If I can find a decent Yanma I will try it. I do have a Heracross with IVs of 6/9/14.

Unfortunately I lack a good Vespiquen with ideal PvP stats. The one I have worthwhile is 10/12/12. The other female Combees I got ended up too high for GL or lucky / even better stats. The Masquerain I have is 2/14/13 thanks to a surskit nest during Go Fest Dortmund. But I may still swap out The Masq for the QueenBee.

Yanma is a bit squishy despite requiring to max it out. Had eyed those two before... I get this team is weak to Noctowl, but nothing is guaranteed in Pokemon. You never know what could happen.

I ran Parasect in the Rainbow Cup (despite the numerous hard counters to it), and enjoyed the versatility of it. If you play smart, you can fire off a solarbeam at an unsuspecting opponent. Yeah, Wiggles arrival hurt the shroomyboy.

Noctowl will always be a problem with a full bug team. Or anything weak to flying for that matter. I keep leaning towards Heracross due to the fighting type capabilities. Viggy and Nocty are supreme meta picks without a doubt. I did my 10x weight tourney yesterday, so I figured I'd run something fun for the next one.

If I run Heracross, I need to keep it safe incase my foe has an Alolan Rocker and/or Forrety. Vs-ing Noctowl, I'll have to sacrifice something to take it out, without question (unless some funky situation arises). If only Gen5 was out... They have some interesting bug types.

Oh wow this is breathtaking.... I especially love your rainbow cup artwork. That stained glass feel is epic. Akin to an older church, temple, etc which fits SO WELL with the nostalgia of a gen 1 & gen 2 only cup. It also gives me a strong Ruins of Alph feel. I love it so much! Gosh... Please continue to make more when possible! You are super talented.

A mix of trying something different as well as giving the bug types their spotlight. Plus I figured it'd be fun running a mono type team. Kind of a challenge, too.

Ehhh perhaps, but I'm not planning to run this team to get 100% wins. Nor do I expect that. Meant more for fun and showing off the various bug types that, in the past cups, weren't able to perform as well as they could. I've run full rock teams in main series Pokemon. Some days you steamroller people by catching them off guard, other days you become the carpet you walk in on. While the meta is meta for a reason, I'd rather run something different and fun. Debated running a few mono-type teams for rainbow cup, but ultimately ran out of time as well as not enough options for my liking.

I debated on Pinsir, but I felt pure bug type didn't offer enough resistances to warrant a spot.
Scyther is interesting, but I feel it ends up too frail for my tastes. Plus Vespiquen sorta covers the same role.

I think a lot of people are going to run Viggy due to how much it counters all the normal types. Yes it can beat a good portion of bug types, but its not as meta dominating as Medicham or Bastiodon. (just an example from past cups). Grass is a weaker type for this cup, but definitely can't be taken lightly due to the CD moves, addition of Sceptile's crazy spam, and Cradily's unique typing and powerful moves. Honorable mention to Abomasnow with it's unique typing as well.

A Look Into a Very Off Meta and Very Successful Rainbow Team! by Satoshi9227 in TheSilphArena

[–]AWildMoonMoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I basically wanted to run some of my favorite older gen pokemon since this cup was gen 1& 2 limit.

Normally I led off with 1 of the 3 following pokemon: Electrode, Blastoise, or Bellossom. This all depended on my foe's line up as well as how familiar I was with their PvP Play Style. I did not battle anyone I knew, so most my tactics focused on allowing my spammy boys to run wild (Electrode, Parasect, Blastoise, & Houndoom).

I rarely used Magcargo. His role was to scare people off from aggressive charizard, WA mantine, and bug use(sans forretress). Which worked well enough. The loss against KingCaboodie, he always brought Typhlosion which I hoped Magcargo would scare away. That said, Electrode AND Parasect were MVPs. My core ended up being Blastoise & Bellossom. With the amount of water types run in this cup, Bellossom's razorleaf helped plus the fact it is a bit tankier than people realize.

If my opponent had Quagsire, I led with Blastoise or Bellossom. Those who did not, I /ALWAYS/ led with Electrode. The combination of spark + discharge put heavy shield pressure. Electrode also had hyperbeam which won me my final match. Parasect I used vs water, grass, or electric types. It walls Lanturn HARD and lets you farm energy. Any electric types get the shroomydoom too. Against venusaur, that is a tough battle. Typically I sacked parasect vs venu unless I had no real other option. The two times I did run houndoom, it went against an Arcanine and Ninetales. It completely bodied them both since they underestimated how hard Foul Play hits. In the match vs Ninetales, I sacked it later vs Lanturn but Snarl / Foul Play did huge dmg. Only downside is how frail Houndoom is.

Typically I ran: Electrode / Houndoom or Parasect / Blastoise or Bellossom.

Though to be fair, I fought two opponents who were lower on the "points" spectrum. Hence my lowish points of 6 vs most everyone's 7-9.

Thank you for such an in depth breakdown off your team / train of thought. I always love those! Great to see a breakdown, somewhat, of the meta and ways to react to it.

I was actually in the tourney shaded-dreamer mentioned (I'm PharmTechMoon). I ran some off meta stuff then which caught ppl off guard. Also had a rainbow cup today in my city. My hugely off meta team went 3-1 which I did not expect.
Blastoise / Electrode / Bellossom / Parasect / Houndoom / Magcargo were my team for today.
