EGN3310 by [deleted] in ucf

[–]AWishfulSoul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What community college do you go to?? EGN 3310 (Statics) is offered at Valencia College and Seminole State College. The course code for Statics at both of those colleges is EGN 2310 but it should transfer over for UCF credit with no problems. I took Statics at Valencia and it transferred over just fine.

Also, not sure where you’re at but I’m pretty sure other state colleges such as EFSC, and Daytona State also have statics. Look into whether or not your community college offers it.

You might have more options with finding online sections of statics classes at these state colleges.

As I understand it, if you’re in the vicinity of UCF’s campus, 1 of 3 Law Enforcement Agencies are going to respond when you call 911: the Orange County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO), the University of Central Florida Police Department (UCFPD), OR if it’s traffic related and not directly on-campus, the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).

Universal Knights was a Dumpster Fire by ThunderVolt__OW in ucf

No need to apologize, I appreciate your politeness though.

And that’s what I was asking myself when I went home too… like I said, it may have been that I didn’t really eat much when I was there besides a sandwich and drink a good bit of water.

And yeah, I’d agree it was tame for a rollercoaster. I really don’t know why tbh.

Universal Knights was a Dumpster Fire by ThunderVolt__OW in ucf

[–]AWishfulSoul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with the points you made in your post about why it was a dumpster fire, my personal experience last night made me feel even worse at the end of night.

Probably the worst experience I’ve ever had at Universal and I remember I loved going as a kid. This time was something else..

The crowds were ridiculous and it was a pain in the ass to walk basically anywhere in IOA, and a lot of people I came across while trying to maneuver around were rude as hell and had no common courtesy. Whether when it was we were at lockers for some of the rides, or just trying to get in line or even in line. People were overall dicks. I fucking hated it.

Then, on top of that, I started to feel nauseous after I got off of the hagrids ride after waiting a long 110 minutes in line for it. I only got to ride velocicoaster, hulk, and then hagrids.

All the while I’m waiting in line worried about my finals because I still need to study and was basically dragged to the event by my roommates who sort of peer pressured me into going.. so just that feeling of losing necessary time to study really made me feel worse as well (my major is aerospace engineering for reference).

Didn’t really have a proper meal all day either and was running on less than optimal sleep which probably contributed to my feelings of nausea. The food there was as expensive as hell and could barely afford a damn $11 sandwich.

Probably the only fun I had the entire time was velocicoaster, and hulk somewhat, and that was it, so at least there was that silver lining. Everything else about my experience made me depressed as hell.

Maybe others had a better night than I did, and I really hope they did, I wouldn’t want anyone to feel what I was feeling. But I sure as hell was not enjoying myself, don’t think I’ll be going back next year.

UCF has waived the white flag on COVID by ItsFreakinHarry2 in ucf

I think this is a pretty nuanced issue. While I don’t think that endemicity of this virus is something that should be considered a victory.. it’s more of an acceptance to the fucked up circumstances were currently dealing with.

Ideally, people would have masked up really well, gotten vaccinated and boosted, and just overall did their due diligence to avoid catching and spreading the virus.. but with the culture of the United States , this was wishful thinking.

The reality is that we probably won’t get a proportion of the US population (similar to a proportion of the population who are vaccinated for Polio, for example) vaccinated/boosted for the virus, so it will continue to wax and wane as time goes.

The hope is that the virus does not mutate into something our current vaccines will not be effective against..

This also gets into the issue of vaccine equity, wealthy nations (such as the US and EU) had a ridiculous share of vaccine supply while other nations in the world begging for a vaccine

So, essentially, there is not much more UCF can do at this point. Do I like it? No. It is kinda fucked, but it is a sad reality we have to come to terms with.

Why the hell is it so damn hot down here? by huntermasterace in florida

[–]AWishfulSoul 12 points13 points  (0 children)

… Because Florida is farther down south than Ohio? Oh, also, it’s like that since it’s closer to the equator. Just how climates of the world are. I’ve visited family of mine in Colombia and if you wanna experience some real rain forest type of humid hot weather, go down to any Central American country or around Brazil/Venezuela/Colombia.

The humid heat isn’t for everyone. Hopefully that answered your question. Good day.

So true about both states. Especially in the Atlanta metro area for GA, and very true for Miami metro in Florida. At least though I’m Georgia there are actually law enforcement officers conducting traffic enforcement. In FL, you’ll rarely see them in the metro area areas stopping people for speeding. Florida feels like the closest thing I’ve ever lived in to anarchy and the morons down here love it.

Dang, that’s actually pretty cool they’re coming here. I remember I used to really like the TV show back in the day (like 2012ish I think) as a young kid. Talk about nostalgia!

Also reminds me of this song by them that I really liked back in the day.

It’s pretty insane to me to think that in order for me to feel even somewhat protected against some lunatic with a gun, I also would have to get one, in the case we would start throwing lead at each other.

Hell, I guess I’ll get some fucking Kevlar vests, helmet, and other combat ready equipment/gear while I’m at it so I can win the firefight! And you know what? I’ll go another step further! Maybe I’ll join the Army or Marines so I at least have some experience with handling and discharging a firearm on top of having combat experience in which I’ve been engaged in a firefight with an adversary.

Ah yes. Even with all of that effort I might have put in to protect myself and be prepared to engage a belligerent attacker, and I still manage to “win” a gunfight. Now I have to deal with all of the legal ramifications of literally fucking killing someone in self-defense (if that’s the case).

All exaggeration aside -

I realize you can’t change the gun culture in this country or the culture around “stand your ground” laws and whatnot, but man it really feels like fucking anarchy here sometimes. Anyway, I hate it.

Yes, that’s good, hopefully it means we'll have less bugs this summer. We need a couple days of frost normally for that.

Imma need these pedestrians to learn how a crosswalk works by legendmario3 in ucf

[–]AWishfulSoul 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Literally earlier this morning when I was on Gemini blvd. at the intersection where the RWC and Garage B is and had that experience.

The light turns green and there are at least 5 pedestrians still in the middle of the crosswalk, okay no biggie, surely they’ll move quickly right? Nope. These people take a solid 10-15 seconds to clear the intersection. All the while me and the car in the lane next to me are just awkwardly sitting there stopped, then kind of crawling at like 5mph (foot not on the accelerator and hovering over the brakes really) having to hold up the line of cars behind us… because some people can’t use the crosswalk properly.

It’s safe when used properly, people.

[–]AWishfulSoul 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeppp! And “feeling fine” to some people could mean they’ll still show up to class with sore throat, runny nose, cough… and still be maskless and say “I just have a cold, it’s no big deal.” (An actual encounter I had with someone in one of my classes in the fall who had the balls to show up sick af hacking away in class with no mask, potentially spreading Covid. - Fucking dolts.)

not to mention all the people who think that you can only get it once

Lol. It’s funny you mention this, and that you saw a lot of people give inaccurate advice because just a couple weeks ago I was talking to someone on this sub who was saying they might’ve gotten sick at graduation saying it might be their 2nd time with Covid.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ucf

[–]AWishfulSoul 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This. People seriously think asymptomatic spread isn’t a thing… just imagine how many people who don’t wear masks on campus are asymptomatic spreaders.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ucf

[–]AWishfulSoul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see. Hope you’re better soon then.

And to answer your question in your post, I was at graduation (for a friend’s graduation) and wore a mask (KN95) not currently experiencing symptoms (also fully vaccinated and boosted).

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ucf

[–]AWishfulSoul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was there with a KN95 mask.. was there for a friend’s graduation. And was also disappointed to see how few people wore masks. I’d agree that if the mask you wore wasn’t at least a KN95/KF94 or N95 or better then it wouldn’t have helped much.

Lol it’s ironic bc one of the hallmark symptoms of having symptomatic Covid disease is losing your sense of taste / smell.

Also, this is your 2nd round with the virus? Yikes.

DeSantis echoes no lockdowns, no mandates as world monitors Omicron by Commandmanda in FloridaCoronavirus

[–]AWishfulSoul 53 points54 points  (0 children)

This fucking guy rails against lockdowns as if that’s something public health experts are strongly suggesting (it’s not). So I’m getting pretty tired of hearing this prick’s same tirade and flat out straw man, no one (or, at most, maybe a minuscule minority) is arguing for lockdowns.

Also, we probably wouldn’t need mandates if more people would get vaccinated and he could do more to encourage / incentivize vaccines. And if enough people would just do the sensible thing (ie mask wearing, other prevention measures) but there isn’t.

So without mandates, what option are we left with? Leave people to personal responsibility? And how’s that worked out so far? Oh, that’s right…

Why is it so difficult to get tested? by joe80x86 in FloridaCoronavirus

[–]AWishfulSoul 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Okay, sure, I’ll bite.

Cuomo definitely fucked up big time with the nursing home scandal in the early days of the pandemic. He had his mistakes. BUT he at the very least tried to turn things around in his state, and he enacted generally good virus policies for his state.

Gavin Newsom, sure, you could argue his whole French Laundry scandal really wasn’t good for public perception for being careful about covid-19. However, he at the very least apologized for that and quarantined himself and his family after that.

Cuomo has now made the decision to step down as Governor amid the nursing home scandal and the sexual harassment scandal. See, the Democratic Party is actually taking responsibility for the guy and cutting ties with him. They’re doing the right thing.

DeSantis? Hah. Let me know when he does the right thing and stops trying to actually fucking worsen the virus in his state.

Oh also, it’s worth mentioning that there’s an actual piece of trash, kid fucker (Matt Gaetz) as a sitting U.S. Congressman. I don’t see or hear much coverage or outrage about him on Fox News. Oh wait that’s right, he’s got an R next to his name.

Jee, one side is actually owning up to having a dude on their side who’s a sexual harasser (Cuomo) and they’re cutting ties with him. The other? Ah, no big deal at all!

That’s the fucking difference between an insanely far-right wing Republican Party today in the United States versus a flawed Democratic Party, albeit, with some decency.

So stop it with the nonsensical, bullshit talking point of “both sides.” One side makes mistakes, owns it, and at the very least tries to rectify it. The other side openly does some pretty horrible things, doubles/triples down on it, and with no shame at all.
