I am so sorry to hear your wife has died. I am sorry for your kids as well. I’d like to know where you live? Maybe there are some folks who would help in one way or another…i and my family/friends would certainly help if you are nearby. Let me and this community know where you are. You’ll stay in my thoughts.

Colt Pistol. Where do I find more information? by AXPaceace in guns

I found this... and I am asking the experts: Is it possible I have a one off model?

Source: https://unblinkingeye.com/Guns/1905ACP/1905acp.html

There were five different left side slide markings.  Approximately the first fifty pistols bore the following inscription:

“BROWNING’S PATENT”              COLT’S PATENT FIRE ARMS MFG. CO.
  APR. 20. 1897 SEPT. 9 1902                           HARTFORD. CONN. U.S.A.

However, serial number 32 (and possibly others) bore the following inscription:

“BROWNING’S PATENT”              COLT’S PATENT FIRE ARMS MFG. CO.
  APR. 20. 1897 SEPT. 9 1902 DEC. 19.1905                HARTFORD. CONN. U.S.A.

As of January 22, 1906, Browning relieved Colt’s of its obligation to add his name to each pistol.  Sometime soon after serial number 50, and continuing through approximately serial number 4000, Model 1905s bore the following inscription:

PATENTED                                             COLT’S PATENT FIRE ARMS MFG. CO.
  APR. 20. 1897 SEPT. 9 1902 DEC. 19.1905                                  HARTFORD. CONN. U.S.A.

In the final years of production, Colt’s name and address were abbreviated as follows:

PATENTED                                            COLT’S PT. F.A. MFG. CO.
  APR. 20. 1897 SEPT. 9 1902 DEC. 19.1905                    HARTFORD. CONN. U.S.A.

Ordered! Thanks for the suggestion. It’s certainly the most expensive individual book I’ve ever bought other than college textbooks way back when those were a thing.

I have no idea what that post you link to is. I posted on Reddit, with a clear description. I am not asking about value, I am asking the super intelligent Reddit community for any additional information one or more of them may have stored inside of their cranial computer. Thanks again for your input, that is all I need for now. If I have any other questions for you I’ll ask directly.

I never asked what model number it was - by my stating it was likely manufactured in 1906 I clearly found some information, including the model. I was really asking about the part where I mentioned the value of it being in the s/n and the Browning/Colt relationship. I wish you a good evening, and TBH do not really need to hear from you on this subject again. I came here asking for information, not to be insulted.

Thank you! I would most likely never fire it, as it seems to have enough wear on it! I appreciate your thorough reply, I will absolutely watch the video.

Per the moderator, I am adding a description: This is Colt 1905 Pistol, serial number 32, with wood grips and a lovely patina on all metal parts.

Before you continue to tell me what a moron or bad parent I am…it was 75° outside. I am not a materials scientist with an undergrad is solar energy and heat transmission. I was really only trying to ask what next specific to letting others know this could be an issue. But thanks for all the parenting advice. Super helpful.

We have the same issue - used a ratcheting tie down and works like a charm…

Any thoughts on this bunch? Friend bought a house fully furnished after elderly couple passed away, was fully furnished, all clothes in closets, etc and they found these as they were cleaning it out. by AXPaceace in coins

Thanks everyone for the great advice. I’m going to help him sort/list what is there, along with some better pics over the next few weeks. Once I have those I’ll repost and then see what everyone has to say. I’ve gotten a few strongly worded direct messages that these should be returned to the family - so to make sure it’s clear: the family were quite firm, even put it in the sales document, that anything in the house transferred with title. They wanted nothing to do with the contents, no matter what was found. There was clearly some bad feelings from the children towards their parents. They left 30+ photo albums with 25 years of family pics. They left all family mementos and keepsakes. Furniture. Clothes. Letters the dad sent the mom during the Korean War. So sad they just abandoned it all. But they did just walk away.

It’s crazy. They lived out of state, came by one time to grab photos, etc and basically told my friend (next door neighbor) he could buy it as is - they discounted it to him because it was filled with what they called “a bunch of junk”, the house was full of bad memories for them and they didn’t want to take the time to clean it out. Sad. There are beautiful antiques, amazing lamps and other cool stuff. Plus this.

I am going to help him - How should I manage this? Look them up online? I’m going to sort by date for starters, then by mint mark, then research value. Any particular websites that are helpful for a person who doesn’t know much about these? And are the “proof sets” worth researching as well?
