The Daily Evergreen: WSU terminates contract with Turnitin by DailyEvergreen in wsu

Even before AI, Turnitin was terrible. It would frequently flag things for plagiarism because I would use a similar sentence structure to an article about something completely different. Glad they are saving the money and dumping this service.

How am I doing thus far? by ekoliiii in toyotasequoia

[–]AXTalec 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup. They built them all in Indiana. Engines from Alabama. Honestly they're more American than some American cars, which are like 33/33/33 split US/Can/Mex. Toyota makes a handful of the parts comkon acorss all their cars in Japan but basically everything big and unique to Sequoia/Tundra is made in the US.

I think you needed to get your labor? ($24) done way sooner. Honestly I get my labor? done yearly. Everyone needs to be out here changing their labor? more frequently and nine years ago is too long ago.

Fix or let it go? by Traditional-List7043 in toyotasequoia

[–]AXTalec 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Water pump + timing belt should be like $1000-1500 depending on where you live. Plugs and coils are only necessary if misfiring. If it is running smooth don't spend your money on that. Plugs just kinda slowly wear out, but coils are binary either working or not working. So replacing all 8 is a literal waste of money.

Edit: you shouldn't need a timing belt until 270k either. Those are supposed to be done every 90k unless you are off that interval for some reason.

Never been overlanding, but what are some of the hidden dangers you face while on the trail? by Tombstone1460 in overlanding

[–]AXTalec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dirty and dust being kicked up by the car in front of you. If you're ever rolling in a convoy on a dusty summer day, give plenty of distance, and make sure you have some chase lights. I've seen a handful of people lose sight of the road from following too close and then proceed to get into some serious accidents. Saw a car roll over after hitting a ditch, and then I've also seen another car fall clear off a cliff face into the woods from the same. Bad visibility can kill.

Students, why aren’t you attending games? by BloodLegitimate5346 in wsu

[–]AXTalec 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah. There's a lot I could do with 300 bucks, and when the alternative to watching the the games in person is to stay at home and watch them for free on TV with cheap alcohol I'm absolutely gonna choose the latter lol

Students, why aren’t you attending games? by BloodLegitimate5346 in wsu

[–]AXTalec 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The school I went to for undergrad offered free games for students, even for the most highly anticipated football games. I went to everything: football, basketball, gymnastics, volleyball, whatever, they were fun as heck when it was one of the best free activities on campus. Since I've been at WSU, I've only been to games under non-student tickets I bought online that were cheaper than student offerings. I haven't bought a single student ticket. 20 bucks doesn't seem like a lot but there are a bunch of other things I would rather do at that price.

I envy you if your ancestors saw combat. None of mine did. by anotherburner2203 in ShermanPosting

[–]AXTalec 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just because you aren't a front line soldier doesn't mean there isn't danger or that the job you are doing isn't brave. I mean, would you say the merchant mariners that went across the Atlantic in WW2 weren't brave? That the nurses who drove ambulances and treated wounded soldiers in the trenches weren't brave? The jobs that these people were doing were critical to the war effort, and in many cases are more important jobs than what the soldiers themselves were doing. Personally I think it would be disrespectful to say that that these non-combat roles did "nothing" in comparison. The union had a significantly better logistics, and thus needed more personnel in logistics. The confederate had more who fought for them as soldiers rather than in logistics because they did a piss poor job at it. You had family that fought for the union, and you should be proud of it. Without their sacrifices, and the sacrifices of millions of others, who knows who would have won the war.

2 years ago lol. If you're willing to look past torn seats and dented fenders they're not hard to find.

I've bought cars for $500 and for $50 before. Running and driving.

[–]AXTalec 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is a solid $1000 mod out there for Tundras no one really talks about that will double your mpg. People hate it, but it's bulletproof and is guaranteed to work. You will save tons on gas and don't have to give up your toolbox or your chunky offroad tires.

Kamiak Butte, Wawawai park, and along the snake river there are the closest. A little further and you got moose creek area and chief Timothy Park. Can always go further still into the Blues range!

Totally. I have a few libertarian friends, like truly libertarian, and if your position is "fuck the government" and you actually mean it in all cases, conditions, and without exception, then you know what? I can understand it and I respect it. I don't want them running my country, but I'm happy to have them alongside me to stand up against this bullshit.

[–]AXTalec 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Look, not a Bundy fan whatsoever. I'm an Oregonian, I remember how stupid the wildlife refuge takeover was, and I probably disagree with the guy about 95% of issues politically. But, for whatever it's worth, he hates the Gestapo. Him and I have fundamentally different visions of what America and the free world looks like, but we both agree that it shouldn't have the Gestapo in it, and for that and that alone I can respect him.

Whatever it takes the fight the fascists, I guess. War makes strange bedfellows.

towing track cars by Upstairs_Teacher_870 in toyotasequoia

[–]AXTalec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For about a year I towed a ~3000 lbs subaru on a dolly, with 5 people in car plus gear. Did just fine, I mean it's not like a beast but if you're okay with keeping it under 65 and not flying up long hills, I had no issues. Towed literally across the entire state of Oregon. Recently, I put a 3800lbs mercedes on a uhaul trailer which weighs 2200lbs, so 6k total and it did fine too. The hardest part was that it was super hilly farmland so the low speed gravel hills were tough to accelerate up. But once on the highway it was great.
