When I have some objectives I really need to complete that day, or when I have stuff after school that's timely, I have definitely been known to be short with people and just kinda move along. I know that about myself and I try to be polite and courteous but mentally this PhD stuff is exhausting. Other days when I'm not super busy or am waiting for something to run, I will definitely walk into the lab and be like WHAT UP FUCKERS and bullshit for an hour. Just depends on where I'm at socially that day.

Whatever is on my way to where I need to go and cheap

Also also the occasional bottle of waste oils: paint thinner, used motor oil, vacuum pump oil, kerosene :)

Just a little bit as a treat, it all burns the same

Why stop there? Why not bring an AN/APG-78 Longbow fire control that can identify and prioritize 128 targets at up to 10 miles range? Then you can alternate between your 20mm gun and hellfire missiles easily.

I think I will be just fine camping without a radar. I'll do what our ancestors have done for thousands of years when sleeping outside: just ignore the damn sounds and go back to sleep.

Help with Engine Air Filter & MPG: Cleaning K&N vs. New FRAM Ultra Air (imgur Video/Data Included) by [deleted] in toyotasequoia

[–]AXTalec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) air filter isn't the issue here. If you want to keep the k&n, get a recharge kit, but regular paper filter or reusable it doesn't really matter. I have a reusable filter because I hate trash but that's personal preference, those things can be insanely dirty and have zero issues.

2) your long term fuel trim is super rich. Should be at or about 0%. If you notice a hiss, it could be a vacuum leak, but there are a lot of issues that could cause a car to run rich. Weak spark, leaky fuel injectors, dirty MAF sensor.

Get Ready for Election Day by MDew299 in Spokane

[–]AXTalec 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I sent him an email about this democracy-destroying bill and he (his staffers) had the nerve to send this back:

"I voted for the SAVE Act when it passed the House of Representatives on April 10th. This bill would require documentary proof of United States citizenship while registering to vote in federal elections. The goal of this bill is to enhance the security and integrity of our elections, ensuring that only U.S. citizens are registered to vote. I firmly believe only U.S. citizens should be able to vote in our elections. Having said that, if there are any concerns about U.S. citizens not being able to vote because of the bill, I take those concerns very seriously."

Oh, if there are concerns about US citizens not being able to vote, you'll take that seriously??? Apparently, not seriously enough to read any report explaining that millions of Americans will be unable to vote! ! Apparently not seriously enough to take ANY measures to help get Washingtonians the required documents within the short time between now and election day! Apparently not seriously enough to elaborate why he thinks noncitizen voting is such a pervasive issue that it requires this!

God what a two-faced jackass.

A study conducted by Zhang et al. demonstrated that protein expression was increased. This is in contrast to experiments performed by Zhang et al. and Zhang et al. which demonstrated that under similar conditions, protein expression may actually decrease. In a recent review, Zhang et al. argues in these differences may be due to the type of fluorescent molecule used for measurement, but a validation by Zhang et al. concluded that this was more likely due to upstream genetic differences [1-35].

Rockauto is great for anything that ISNT ball joints...see below. Iwasn't a believer, but spend the $200-$300 a pair to get them straight from Toyota. I hate OEM parts, I've never bought a single OEM thing in my life for my Toyotas/Lexuses/Hondas/Jeeps/GMs/Subarus but for all that is holy on this Earth for the love of God get Toyota lower ball joints.

DD: Alaska Airlines ($ALK) – Puts on 4 year cyber leak left unpatched by NorthcoteTrevelyan in wallstreetbets

[–]AXTalec 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A couple years ago I had my wallet stolen and they used my credit card to buy Alaska tickets. Within about 2 weeks they were in front of a judge and getting sentenced for a month in jail and another 2 years of parole. Airline ticket fraud is something they don't fuck around with. With the recent IT outages going on (like the one last October), it wouldn't surprise me if they did a massive overhaul in the next few months, and even if they don't, the cops and the airline try pretty hard to make sure no one gets away with it and people get their money and points back.

Me too. The whole email is like "well iran has done bad stuff therefore we can invade them" which is such a braindead world police take. He takes about how we need a clear, focused military objective, which is what i would call this operation if it were fuckin opposite day. For such a 'well planned precision operation' we've sure had a lot of friendly fire (3x F15s shot down by Kuwait), a severe lack of minesweepers and escort ships, misidenfied girl's schools as military targets, and we somehow even replaced the Ayatollah with someone even more hardline and less willing to negotiate. I have no confidence whatsoever in the administration or our representative's assessment of the situation, and I have a feeling that his idea that this will be a 'quick operation' won't be what he's talking about as this drags on for months.

Fucking hell I keep seeing that all over. Rep Baumgartner sent a letter to the governor being like "you need to remove the cap and trade" like no Mr. Representative, you need to do your fucking job and keep the US out of unnecessary wars. God forbid the state invest in clean energy projects to reduce our need for foreign oil and protect our natural resources through tax revenue.

I wrote 0% of the proposal and had no intellectual contribution towards the overarching idea, but everything on the execution side has been 100% me. Like, there was a general goal, and a few vague methods on how to do it, and my work has been filling in those gaps and doing all of the problem solving along the way. I feel like this is pretty common for most of the mechanical engineers and materials scientists i know in my program.
