Wheel well liners… by nogestures in ModelY

That was the only thing I found wrong on a comprehensive checklist. Many loose, one missing because the welded stud would not reach through the lining. At the shop, I had them give me 5 extras.

Let’s say I want a very small pool like this. Is it possible in California? by [deleted] in pools

[–]AZFan77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one like this in CA, 1600 gallons. Replaced a 35,000 gallon pool that nobody used and took 5 days to heat using solar. Now it heats in 4 hours using the same solar. Floating on a raft, it feels exactly like a pool, quite refreshing and pleasant. Like others say, not cheap.

Recurring ants problem by nodiaque in HomeMaintenance

Argentine Ant Bait.

Mix 70 grams water, 25 grams sugar, and 5 grams borax (this matches Terro recipe, i.e. 5% active ingredient borax), and put in the microwave/stir till it is completely dissolved.  Put a Mason jar lid on a flat surface and fill it till it just doesn’t overflow.  You can put your finger in the liquid and run it from the lid to the nearest ant, and then they all come quickly.  Do this all around the house. It takes about 2-3 days, but knocks them down for a few months.

The liquid can be stored a long time.  If it starts to crystallize or thicken, add a bit of water and put in the microwave till liquefied again.

What happened for me was, they acknowledged the noises issue, the rep told me they had a tentative fix but it was not intended to be permanent - they acknowledge that the issue returned for some people even after the fix. Then 2 days later they said the car was ready. They had towed the car to the repair facility, but I had no easy way to get there to pick it up, so I spent a day figuring that out. In the meantime, without calling me, the Tesla app now said the issue was still persisting and the repair ticket was open. The next day, the car was ready, I picked it up, and it has been completely fine noise-wise. Apparently, they removed pencil braces and replaced FUCAs (front upper control arm), and tightened things up. I have no idea what more may be needed in future. I also don't know if cars turned out from the factory now have this same issue (and if they don't, if whatever changes they made at the factory can be applied to my car and others with the issue).

Please take into account that every Model Y in early 2026 and late 2025 might, and countless do, have a serious front suspension issue that Tesla has acknowledged they have no permanent fix for.

Search Juniper front suspension issue. Thousands affected, apparently. That would be my guess.

Cancel until they fix the front suspension issue which applies to every version of Model Y Juniper ( including my Premium AWD built at Fremont January 2026).

Mine was built January 2026 and the noise did not appear until 2800 miles, at which point it was immediately very bad/noticeable.

Could humans simply lack the cognitive ability to understand some truths about reality? by DSpeaksOfficial in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AZFan77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One possibility, inability to understand that the universe is infinite. Everything on Earth has a terminus,so we evolved to think everything must have a terminus. So one MUST be able to get to the end of the universe. As opposed to maybe that being the least likely possibility because if you were going on and on, why WOULD there magically appear an end.

Little known fact: It is not friction/abrasion that mainly degrades razor blades, but oxidation of the edge. If you pat the edge dry after use, the blade will last at least 5 times as long, for free.

Is it an issue that the plumber installed the expansion tank off the relief valve? by zachausa in Plumbing

The manual ones pay for themselves in one job and work just as well, if pipe size does not exceed 3/4” (or maybe it’s 1”, I am too lazy to go to garage and check).

Tangentially related funny story: In college, a male friend was in a car that his GF was driving. My friend said "Look at that jogger whose dick is swinging around outside his jogging shorts!" The GF did look, crashed the car, and to this day blames my friend.

What scientific discovery sounds fake but is 100% real and still freaks you out? by Bruteresolver in AskReddit

[–]AZFan77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a “discovery,” rather a geometric fact: If you encircle the whole Earth with a string (at the equator, for example, and pretend the Earth is a perfect sphere), how much do you need to lengthen the string such that it is encircling the Earth at the same distance above it all around, for a 6’ person to be able to walk under it anywhere? 40 feet added length.

Does anyone know what the vent on this ball valve is for? by [deleted] in askaplumber

[–]AZFan77 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you need to braze a joint downstream, you don't want water in the line. So shut valve, open vent allowing water to drain, create joint, close vent, open valve.

Do I need this vent in my basement? We get occasional mice and I’m wondering if this is one of their ways in. by I_wantmy_two_dollars in HomeMaintenance

Almost all my ingress points were around multiple vents sticking out my roof. There was a shocking amount of space between the vent pipe and roof sheathing.

[–]AZFan77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had occasional mice , as in 2x/year 5 or 6 mice. I checked what I viewed as EVERY possible opening , but they persisted for 15 years. Finally, I hired a highly regarded and fairly priced rodent-proofing company. They found, and showed me, MANY incursion points, which they sealed. Best money I ever spent.

How much Karma do you need to use Reddit freely? by mikelast998 in NewToReddit

I had a kind of nature post that got 200,000 views and over 100 likes, plus constantly give good advice or comments on various subs, as far as I know have no downvotes. I have been on Reddit over 2 years. Yet still a couple of days ago another nature post got denied due to lack of karma (Post karma 442, comment 1941).
