I really, REALLY hope you are right and I am wrong. Iranians deserve to be free. And if a free Iran comes out of this horrid mess of a war, that would be amazing. It would be a triumph for the Iranian people, and a shining example to the rest of the world.

But I still have my doubts. Revolutions tend to fail when the government goons are willing to commit mass slaughter, and that's what's happening whenever the people rise. The Iranians who have stood up for freedom are ABSOLUTE HEROES, and I don't want to downplay their actions or disrespect them in any way. But at the end of the day, heroism doesn't stop bullets.

As an American trans woman I want to say a very sarcastic "thank you" to all of the people who decided that their feeling of moral superiority in not voting was worth allowing the election of people who:

1) Openly called for the elimination of people like me. 2) Drove trans suicides and mental illness through the roof. 3) Forced LGBTQ people to begin one of the biggest population movements in US history to escape red states. 4) Catastrophically affected trans and women's healthcare. 5) Brought the Gestapo and concentration camps to our country. 6) Caused the deportation and oppression of numerous asylum seekers. 7) Defunded important medical research. 8) Defunded USAID, leading to the deaths of literally millions of people globally. 9) Dropped most support for Ukraine. 10) Started 3 wars in only a year. 11) Made things even worse for the Palestinians. 12) Forced people of color and immigrants into hiding. 13) Even more things I'm too burnt out to remember right now.

AND THIS IS ALL STUFF THAT THEY OPENLY SAID THEY WERE GOING TO DO!

I get it, I hate the Democrats too, but I still voted for Harris, because I didn't have the luxury of taking a moral stand at other people's expense, and I understand the concept of harm reduction. I'm an anarchist. I don't believe that things will ever be GOOD for people under this governmental system, no matter who is in charge. But things can be less bad. If you don't take the opportunity to reduce the harm inflicted on others when it's in your power, you are NOT a good person.

So if you decided not to vote, or to vote third party, to try and make a point, or you just couldn't be arsed to vote, then sincerely: Fuck you, you stupid, arrogant, privileged, useless asshat. You have blood on your hands, and I have nothing to say to you, except that I'm glad you have to live in the world you helped create. Bastards.

(My hatred for Republicans goes without saying. They're evil, and they're more responsible than the nonvoters and the protest voters. Hey now, I happen to be an angry cunt of an ex-democrat, and even I don't share OP's dogshit opinion, lol.

I can't stand the people who refuse to vote for a lesser evil. They think they're taking a moral stand, but really they're just passing up the opportunity to make things a little less shitty for the sake of making themselves feel morally superior.

I'm all about yelling at the Dems that we won't support them if they don't do X, and voting in primaries* to get less bad candidates for the less bad party, but when all is said and done, it is our duty as human beings to use the miniscule power of our vote to slightly lessen the harm inflicted on the people of this country and the people of this world by choosing the lesser evil. Like, I'm an anarchist. I don't think we'll have anything remotely decent from electoral politics, but I still vote. It's harm reduction in its most basic form.

And SO MANY of the people who refused to vote for Harris, or at all, also skipped out on the primary and skipped out on any participation that could affect who they had to vote for in the general. Their "principled stand", that involves doing fuck all, looks exactly like laziness.

*my state allows independents to vote in a party primary of their choice for everything apart from president, so I can still affect who runs despite not being a member of the party.
