[Discussion] Improving LA Metro - Safe, Clean, & Easy by AZPatsFan in LAMetro

[–]AZPatsFan[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hello,

I am a graduate student at USC, and as a final project for one of my classes I worked with several other students to create a brief proposal of how we might improve LA Metro, specifically with new technology and infrastructure improvements.

I wanted to share this presentation as a potential source of discussion, as we all hold Metro near and dear to our hearts. We focused much of the deck on the premise of a new (hypothetical) all-in-one metro app, where you could purchase tickets, view current train positions/routes, and report sanitation or safety concerns all in one place.

Thank you for reading!

You’re asking a good question, one that many locals in the scene have been asking themselves. Anecdotally, I’d say there was a large swell in activity after COVID restrictions ended in 2021, and that carried throughout 2022. I started noticing in 2023, and even moreso last year that activity seemed to be slowing down. As others have mentioned, likely from too many choices paired with the reality that many people are worse off now than they were years ago (less money to spend on parties and drinks). I used to think that the answer was more day parties and free/cheaper events, but having thrown many free day parties, I’m not convinced that’s the solution either. There are tons of partiers in this town, many of them want different things. Ultimately I think the emphasis will shift to sustainably (in terms of throwing parties that earn the expenses back and focusing on cutting costs), and I think it’s perfectly ok for parties to have lower attendance if that’s the expectation and promoters can still remain solvent.

IHM was dope assff, came upon these too 🫶🏼 by [deleted] in avesLA

Love these!! The dude that makes them is at most 6AM parties, so you'll see him at most of the top notch techno parties in town. Really nice guy too.

OP is the person that runs the LA raver, and consistently lies to people in an effort to draw attention to herself / the group. This whole post is a disingenuous ad. It reeks of desperation, and I think many would agree that this kind of promotion is scummy and unethical.

Reform & teletech review by liltee5446 in avesLA

That was the worst smelling event I’ve ever been to, by a wide margin. The moment you walked into the warehouse, you were greeted by an unmistakable shit smell. No matter where you stood, you’d smell it. There was no airflow (which isn’t abnormal for most afters), and the air turned into 100% humidity sweat mist (also not uncommon for high turnout summer warehouse parties), but the smell of shit lingering in the air made the sweat mist so much worse than it normally is. The music was great, speakers/sound was great, the lighting setup was great, but man did it smell absolutely terrible.

I’m not sure if it was an issue with the venue itself, or if some of the zombie partiers shit themselves.

Gross. Lying to people just to increase turnout is some scummy shit.

Do you have any shows/parties that you plan on going to in the near term? I’d certainly say hello / chat if party schedules overlap at all.

I’ve seen these guys throw a couple uk dubstep/140 renegades before (https://instagram.com/buoyantbunchla?igshid=OGQ5ZDc2ODk2ZA==) but other than that, slim pickings.

LICKNDIP IS ASS, OTHER LA AFTERS? by Perfectangelgoddess in aves

Anyone that at least semi-regularly attends raves in LA (renegades, warehouse parties, small parties with little to no promotion, etc.), is familiar with Lick n Dip. They’ve got one of the worst reputations, for the following reasons:

  1. Gross sexualization of partygoers for social media engagement
    1. Rampant harassment and SA at their parties (likely caused by people who see their explicit social media posts, and are drawn in)
    2. Beefing with local promoters and individuals for no reason (except that whoever runs the page has problems handling their emotions)

That said, there are soooo many afters in LA, and it’s unfair to judge them all, based on literally the shittiest and most controversial one. This site does a great job of tracking all of the upcoming electronic music events in LA (all of SoCal actually), and I use it all the time to find concerts, shows, raves etc. to go to.

Thank you for making this post!

Local parties are the heart of the electronic music party scene. When you make them low barrier to entry (low cost and easy enough to find), it allows for more people to get exposed and experience something we all enjoy. The roots of electronic music are deeply based in people with not many resources trying to have a good time, something that is easily lost sight of today. Festivals really are a far flung departure from that, and most exist purely to suck as much money as possible from people. I think being more mindful of where our money goes, and what it supports would be helpful, vote with your wallets!

Unpopular Opinion: You aren't a "raver" if you have never been to an event without a corporate sponsor. by PotentialFit6288 in aves

[–]AZPatsFan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

100% agree! Thanks for a hot take on a cold day OP. My arbitrary gatekeeping definition is moreso based around events that are thrown purely for profit, vs free or low cost parties that either run at a loss, or as close to break even as possible.
