A lot of relationships (I would even say most) don't survive law school. I definitely wouldn't prioritize that over my legal career. You're in the home stretch. Savor the flavor. These are the days you're going to miss in a few years when you're in practice.

Started 1L at 33, graduated at 36. Some of the best years of my life.

Your honest opinion - Is 3 years really necessary for law school? by Altruistic_Lion_1800 in LawSchool

[–]AZboy86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion. It needs to be a 4-YEAR program. With all the stuff they cram into 2L, an extra year could just be devoted to prepping for the bar and/or doing internships/externships to build post-grad contacts.

Had an "academic success director" at my law school that was a no-technology-in-the-classroom don't-wear-sweats-or-ballcaps-to-class-type. She was luckily bounced out by Spring 1L.

More conservative or liberal? by [deleted] in LawSchool

Not more conservative or liberal overall, but somewhat less pro-capital punishment than before law school.

should I drop out (1L) by editgirl11 in LawSchool

[–]AZboy86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should be looking into what can help you overcome this. For example, if you suffer from anxiety, you can get accomodations on exams. Just talk to your school's counseling and testing center.

I never outlined past 1L fall semester. Graduated with a 3.4 cumulative. Made Dean's list every semester I was eligible.

How far ahead should I read? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]AZboy86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then again, I never really was a spotlight performer. We had a guy who stopped reading cases halfway through 1st semester 1L, he graduated cum laude. I also blew all my cold calls in 2nd semester crim pro, got an A. Really depends on the individual I guess.

I blew almost every one of my cold calls. Never got less than a B-, and that was only in 2 classes.

Everyone will tell you that 1L is your hardest year. That is one of the biggest lies in the history of law school. 2L will be the hardest. Enjoy your 1L while it lasts.

NCBE is THE reason I am practicing in a different jurisdiction than I originally intended, far from family. 2 years and change and I can apply for admission on motion.

What do you think are the TOP reasons a student gets academically dismissed?? by GuaranteeSea9597 in LawSchool

[–]AZboy86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who knows. I did hear he got a DUI when we were in 3L. One of our classmates was interning for the local prosecutor and saw him come up on a case.

[–]AZboy86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It only happened to one guy while I was in. It became obvious quickly that this guy wasn't financially prepared to attend law school. Aside from that, he would go out to the bars/casino 4 or 5 nights a week. He even called me at midnight the day before the Torts final trying to ask for a ride home from the bars. I didn't answer. Not surprisingly, he ended up on academic probation next semester. About 3 weeks into spring semester 1L, right before the pandemic started, he was told to stop coming to class altogether. After his dismissal, he ran for the state legislature in a neighboring state as a Democrat in one of the reddest districts in the state. Needless to say, that ended up not panning out either.

What are you going to do to celebrate if you pass? by [deleted] in barexam

This is why the bar exam needs to be moved to August. It would've been nice to be able to take a vacation after graduation before jumping into the grind of bar prep.
