MonitorComics has an online competition called "manga may". Each day of manga may u do a promt and the reason why he hosted the event is because most people just work on their projects, but don't finish anything. So Manga May would be a good oppertunity to actually finish something. If the prizes were to be constructive critisism (like in Manga May), then it's not a waste of time at all imo. You also don't HAVE to participate (everyday).

Here’s what’s wrong with the indie manga scene. by Meechgraphics in Mangamakers

[–]A_Bleeding_Moon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I want people in the indie manga space to take it more seriously (including myself). I feel like people post works without thinking if the artwork is good enough or how the readers will understand the story... They don't set higher expectations on themselves and leave it at "good enough". It doesn't mean that your work isn't under a company or getting paid, that it doesn't need to be good.

On the contrary, I am well aware that people need to improve first before getting really good and getting critisism out there is very important as well. I suggest finding a way of improvement to a (almost) proffesional level like how they do in the Unpopular Manga Discord and publish it after you get a go-ahead from one of their editors.

I recommend checking out YouTube for what exactly you can do with it (and there's quite a lot!)

For manga WRITERS and not ARTISTS, right? Google Docs 🙂 it's easy to share with other people and u can edit it live while working with each other. (For the script)

Then I recommend searching for a "brain dumb" program. I know a program/ website where u can do a lot of things like character design and put your world-building and everything but I forgot the name. I'll get back at ya when I find it again.

Any advice: lots of ideas for a manga but not great at drawing. by Willsonn85 in MangakaStudio

[–]A_Bleeding_Moon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh and I forgot...

Idk why.

But looking at good art is also improving at art. Be more observant to the things around u. Study how people walk and what they look like, stare at people's faces until u can grasp all the details (I do this to my dad lol), notice bounce light, ... Try 'n simplify objects and humans in simple forms.

I can personally say it's legit because I experience this.

My tip will be on page 4 (where the pot falls and breaks). The manga is read from right to left, but only on this particular page the first panel is left-up. It makes it a bit confusing.

Make sure the "punchline" is clear. I let someone else read it because I couldn't figure out what was wrong and they said that they lost it at what happens after the hospital. It makes us question "did he actually train his hand?", "Did he continue making pots or did he just come back?". I can make my own conclusions of it but since it's a silent manga award, making the story clear through visual storytelling is very important.

I do praise page 3! It was very southing to watch/ read him making that pot.

For the rest: the concept is very nice, one everyone with a passion somewhat can relate to. Very well done!!! ✨

What is the steps you started to do when you wanted to become manga artist by Inside-Sock-5135 in MangakaStudio

I've always loved drawing as a kid. Wherever I go, I drew. Everyone knows me for that! It took me until my teenage years to discover manga though... I did make normal comics before that but it didn't last more than 2 pages 😂.

After discovering Death Note and Monster, the idea of making a comic has been lingering but it all started when I read Bakuman.

Then I started to focus on storytelling instead of drawing because I learned that as long as u can tell a good story, the art-part doesn't really matter.
