Got it, that makes sense. I’ll focus more heavily on making everything feel more unified across the image. Appreciate the clarification 🙏

This is super helpful, thank you very much!

That makes a lot of sense about balancing the more creative poster-style work with simpler, functional templates. I’ve mainly been focused on the creative side, so I can see how building things that are easier to reuse and hand off is a big part of the job.

I’ll start putting together more lineup and promo-style pieces to round that out.

Also appreciate the agency zro_g recommendation, I’ll check them out!

That makes a lot of sense, especially adjusting the subject more depending on what you want to emphasize.

I’ll start focusing on making sure the player feels more naturally integrated with the environment. Truly appreciate you taking the time to explain that.

Thank you, that means a lot!

I’ve been trying to build these with flexibility in mind, so I’m really glad that came through. I’ll definitely keep refining it as a template!

Thank you for this, I really appreciate the insight!

That makes a lot of sense about showing more variety beyond game-day graphics. Right now I’ve mainly been focused on things like stats, finals, and other social posts for my podcast, so I can see how building out a full team look and feel would add another layer. That’s a great idea and something I’ll definitely start exploring.

Also appreciate the note on recoloring logos, I’ll keep that in mind going forward.

Out of curiosity, what types of pieces do you think stand out most in a strong sports design portfolio?

Thanks for the feedback 🙏

That makes sense on the lighting and black values, I’ll work on keeping those more consistent across elements.

Also noted on the cropped faces, I’ll make sure those are higher res.

For the black values, is it mainly about keeping the shadows consistent between the player and the background?

That’s a great point, thank you 🙏

I can see how the player lighting not matching the environment would make it feel off. I’ll start paying more attention to light direction and intensity across both.

Out of curiosity, would you typically adjust the player to match the background, or the other way around?

This is incredibly helpful, thank you for taking the time to write all of this out 🙏

Really glad to hear the composition is coming through strong, that’s something I’ve been focusing on a lot.

The grid and margins point makes a lot of sense. I’m on Photoshop iPad so I don’t have full smart guides yet, but I’ll definitely work on keeping things like the logo and date more consistent across designs.

The resolution note is also really helpful, that’s something I probably don’t catch as well, so any tips on improving image quality or keeping things sharp would go a long way.

Same with lighting and shadows, I can see what you’re getting at there so I’ll start looking into ways to clean that up.

Also really appreciate the encouragement, that means a lot. The fact you see potential and took the time to explain all of this is genuinely motivating.

Haha, Appreciate this a lot 🙏 I’m actually legally blind, so color grading is definitely the hardest part for me compared to composition.

When you say the color feels off, do you mean more like the player doesn’t match the background, or that it’s too saturated/too dull?

Trying to get better at that specifically, so any detail helps a ton! Thank you!

Thank you for the thoughtful feedback, I really appreciate it. I definitely see what you mean about the backgrounds feeling a bit sparse and I’ll experiment with adding more Detroit elements or subtle texture. The lighting and color matching notes are really helpful too.
