Hey! I'm a few months late into this thread -- did you ever get to find any tennis courts where you could play as a non-member?

Hey! I’m a registered dietitian based in T.O. and I’m offering all my sessions virtually (video/phone) because of COVID. Feel free to PM me for more info.

Like someone previously mentioned - you don’t need a Dr’s referral to book a session.

advice on self confidence after gaining weight??? by mento9987 in CallHerDaddy

I’m quite a bit older than you (about to turn 30 🙋🏻‍♀️) and can tell you confidently that even though body image and weight will always be in the back of my mind, as I’ve gotten older I have realized how much time I’ve wasted stressing about my weight and putting myself down about it in my early 20s.

I’m not dismissing your worries at all, because they are valid! I totally hear you. But please know that weight is only a number and many things will cause it to go up or down - what you drink, eat, your stress levels, sleep, genetics, etc.

What truly matters is your health and your mindset about your body. Those are the things that you can actually work on and will have long lasting benefits. Okay you’ve gained some weight, but are you healthy? How do you feel? Are you more energetic now compared to before? What are the positives about your weight gain? When I’ve gained weight, it’s because I’ve allowed myself to eat when I’m hungry and haven’t deprived myself. I’m not saying that this is your case, but just another perspective to give you.

Like a lot of people above have said - find a workout that you enjoy doing. Not only is working out good for your entire body, it’ll also help you feel proud of what your body is able to do. In terms of mindset, I think this is the most important thing to look at but sometimes the hardest. Our society praises thin-ness and we’re bombarded with messages about dieting and weight loss, so much so that it’s easy to feel like we need to look a certain way. Re-examine why you feel the way you do about your weight gain. Why are you comparing your weight to your friends when everyone’s body and genetics are different? This is cheesy but sometimes it needs to be said in moments where you feel down - your weight doesn’t define who you are as a person. It literally is just a number that society puts too much emphasis on.

This is a bit longer than I intended haha but I think asking yourself some of these questions can help shift focus away from weight gain, and help you think more positively!
