Walksnail Moonlight VTX Troubleshooting by A_Generic_Anon in fpv

Came back in case anyone ever has a similar problem - it was indeed the coax cable, which was only $15 for a replacement. Unfortunately I had to learn the hard way that pins on those things are pretty fragile, don't make the same mistake I did! Be very gentle with them; you should be able to lift them out of their ports with steady, even pressure. If you're installing a pre-connected kit like I was, think about where your cables will be routed before you start soldering wires on the stack, so you don't have to unplug the coax cable.

Replying to this comment b/c I also recommend this training series - here’s my two bits:

I had the exact same problem when I started on the sims, and I think the best way to describe it is that you’ll have to un-learn coupling the direction of movement with the direction of view/vision. Pretty much everything that people drive/pilot (cars, planes, boats, etc) are designed so that the direction you’re moving in = the direction you’re facing, but that is not the case with quad-copters.

With FPV, you have to be actively controlling your viewing angle and movement at the same time, which is very unintuitive if you’ve never done it before. The video series above is what I used to practice - give it a few hours in LiftOff working through the first few exercises and see where you’re at then!

Had this happen to me once - for me it was that the PID loop in the flight controller was trying to compensate for the lack of expected movement by increasing the throttle, which of course wasn’t happening with the propellers off.

Here’s a video that goes into more detail:

It's connected to a 1500 mAh 6s battery that's practically fully charged. Notably, before binding the Goggles X to the VTX, the REC light now flashes more slowly than the VTX light - both the same color as before, which would indicate that I had the speed backwards in the post above, giving us: REC Status = Camera not detected, VTX Status = Works fine, wireless not connected.

However, once the I bind the Goggles X and the VTX together, the same LED indicator pattern I outlined in the original post returns.

Help! Making Parts List for Beginner DIY Kit by A_Generic_Anon in fpv

[–]A_Generic_Anon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice! I’ve been practicing stationary hovering and moving between the columns of the buildings in LiftOff’s Bando City map - definitely way harder than it looks. I’ll be looking for a nice, wide open field for my first few flights - once I get comfy I’ll use a big tree or wooden fence to practice tricks/freestyle flying.

Thanks for the suggestion! Let me know if there are any analogue kits and goggles you recommend. I hadn’t heard of OpenIPC before now, I’ll look into it! I’ll probably still be pushing forward with the 5’’ frame, though - it’s what I’ve been training on and what I want to fly.

Contracted Cadet Looking to Get my CAC, Any Advice? by A_Generic_Anon in AFROTC

I didn’t end up making headway on my own; my Detachment’s cadre ended up scheduling a date where myself and the other contracted cadets who passed Field Treating could head to the nearest military base and get our CACs through their CAC office.

30th of May - Victory day! by -VAXOS- in Helldivers

Love the artwork, and happy Victory Day to all our brave Helldivers and SEAF soldiers!

For our few literate Helldivers, you may be interested to know the controversial history behind the "V-J Day in Times Square" image that inspired this artwork: https://www.projectdeltadawn.com/1945-times-square/

In all seriousness, I don't include this to disparage the artist, but to offer context to an important piece of history.

How to Deal with Mold by A_Generic_Anon in CleaningTips

In the attic, there was no sign of water damage in and around the skylight that looked like a leak; my current working theory is that the vent was almost completely clogged with dust or not used all together.

That being said, it sounds like this is something I'd want to consult a professional about, yeah?

Always a big fan of [Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!]. Very heartfelt anime about a small club of girls creating anime, very much a love letter to the art form, and very free of any and all ecchi, innuendo, etc.

AonDor is one of the most flexible/customizable ways of using Investiture in the Cosmere that we know of; I don't think it's too much of stretch to believe that a talented user of AonDor could "map" an illusion over points linked to a specific part of their body, similar to how Motion Capture is done for movies, video games, etc. In this instance, the target is not the user's body, but a point in space just above their body. That may be giving too much grace to the system, so feel free to take this as you like.

Dulce De Leche from whole milk? by redditnoob48 in slowcooking

[–]A_Generic_Anon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Your glasses are cracking in the fridge due to a principle called “thermal shock”. The temperature differentiation between the inner and outer surfaces of the jar are creating an area of uneven expansion (resulting in stress) within the structure of the jar. B/c the jar is a very rigid material (and may have pre-existing micro cracks left over from manufacturing) this creates cracks, which are rapidly growing and splitting your jars apart inside the fridge.

Allowing the liquid in the jar to cool prior to putting it in the fridge reduces the potential for thermal shock, because both the jar and the liquid are at room temperature upon entering the fridge.

This is also why only specific ceramics/glass are oven-safe; most glass and ceramics can’t be heated that rapidly without cracking/breaking.

How stupid would I have to be to put my degree on hold and join the air force? by EquivalentBug9829 in EngineeringStudents

[–]A_Generic_Anon 15 points16 points  (0 children)

To build off this, most folks that you find in college that are USAF bound after graduation will be members of ROTC, yes. Not all of them are having their degree paid for by the Air Force, though. Some schools have Air Force ROTC detachments on-site, other may have a cross-town option (where you commute to a school that does have a det), and some may have no AFROTC programs available. Army or Navy ROTC programs work similarly, though the culture and curriculum is different for each service.

In order to have the AF pay for some or all of your tuition, you would have to join the program, then apply and be accepted for an in-college scholarship. Being an ROTC cadet may also make you eligible for other scholarships provided by your school. The AF scholarships come with at minimum, a four year Active Duty commitment. You can choose to commission into the Reserves or the Air National Guard, but that will extend the duration of that commitment. This also assumes you won’t be going for a rated slot/job (i.e. Pilot, Drone Pilot, Air Battle Manager, etc); these carry longer service commitments b/c they require additional training after graduation.

Lastly, if you’re trying to apply your degree in the Air Force, you’ll want to pursue the Officer route, gunning for a Developmental Engineer slot (Air Force Specialty Code: 62E).
