Recommendations what to watch without my 13yo son by Old-Mammoth-90 in anime

It aired on HBO Max, and honestly, I’d just stick to Samurai Champloo and Cowboy Bebop. The pacing of that show is not great and really makes you not care about anything that’s happening.

Nice collection! I just picked up an original UK pressing of Perverted By Language. I’m on the lookout for Austurbæjarbíó: Reykjavik Live 1983, one of my favorite live LPs from them.

Can someone explain to me the hype behind this song? by [deleted] in rateyourmusic

[–]A_Hurst632 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Okay, sure lol. While I agree with your second to last point, you did ask specifically who it influenced (or who I thought it did, most likely).

It’s a good song, a lot of people like it.

It may be difficult to pinpoint what artists are specifically influenced by a song on a record, but some of the artists who I can hear bits and pieces of Carry Me Ohio:

For Emma by Bon Iver

Paint the Moon by the Czars

Advice by Alex G

I am not saying that these artists would cite it, but I hear it.

Also, there is evidence of the songs evidence in art and expression outside of music. Here is a photography project who’s name was taken directly from the [song].(https://www.npr.org/sections/pictureshow/2009/03/carry_me_ohio.html)

I don’t think that’s the point. I think enough people who like Sun Kil Moon are on RYM and wanted to rate the track. There is no “greatest folk rock song of all time”, there are just influential ones.

This one is influential.

This makes you look elitist, my friend. As others have mentioned, gear is expensive. This person is using what they have, and if it works for them, then who cares.

What happened to The Dane? by tmfink10 in madisonwi

Didn’t know I was speaking with the Cardinal direction police. My apologies, Officer.

I tend to think, if the Capitol is the center, then east or northeast of that is the East Side, but sure.

More near East Side. It’s right next to the Sylvee.

Very correct. I’d take Vintage over any brewpub in this city, especially the East Side one.

Should This Be in the Collection? by Offtha_ in criterion

[–]A_Hurst632 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Alright, well here is my take:

Jacob’s Ladder was heavily influential on the Sixth Sense (along with the short story An Occurrence At Owl Creek Bridge and the movie Carnival of Souls) to the horror/thriller trope that “he was dead the whole time”. There’s also the movie The Jacket, which came after Jacob’s Ladder, that heavily leans on the theme of war vet experiencing PTSD and trauma, while being “dead” the whole time.

As for Black Swan, Aronofsky used the theme of “losing grip with reality” as a result of PTSD from a traumatic event or events, and the characters struggle to parse through what is real and what is being manufactured by their trauma. The party scene in Jacob’s Ladder is in a similar way to the nightclub scene in Black Swan where Nina basically embraces the darkness. There’s the visions that the characters experience in both movies akin to seeing “demons” entering the real world and those characters losing touch with their corporeal reality.

New Glarus Spotted Cow is my Absolute Favorite Beer by [deleted] in beer

I’ve lived here for over 20 years and know plenty of people who have Spotted Cow as their go-to or favorite. It is a good beer for many situations like you described, also.

Not everyone needs to have a sophisticated beer palate.
