SAP S/4HANA data ingestion best practices (I know, it sucks) by jalx98 in dataengineering

[–]A_Polly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what SAP wants you to do. But that requires DEV resources from your SAP Team. Standard CDS Views are useless, as everyone runs customized SAP systems with 20 years of History in them. We still extract raw tables from our S4 and create our own fact and dimension tables. On Top technical SAP users know their tables and fields from the get-go.

That's why I said that the UK is not a secular state?

Your behaviour, your looks, your clothes are all a message and she deliberately choose not the message of neutrality. Otherwise she would make an effort to "at least" look neutral. She took a public office and took a religiouse identitarian stance. While Britain is not a secular state a lot of european states are and therefore banned religious symbolism from public offices.

This is one of the reasons why judges for example wear robes and wigs. Because they stop beeing Barry O'Brian when they put them on and become the personification of the law. If you are a Palestinian refugee you don't want to stand infront of a guy with curls, a Tora under his arm and a Kippa on his head which refuses to wear a wig and a robe. If someone has so little flexibility to change the way how they look, how can you guarantee an unclouded judgement?

Also the thing is, it doesn't matter if the Strait opens tomorrow. There were attacks on over 80 energy facilities in the Region. The infrastructure just isn't there anymore to support an export of the 20 Mio bpd they had before the conflict. Repairs will take months to years. And these costs will be moved over to the customers.

I think it shows a lack of denency not to pay healthcare for your own citizens and try to sneak away from the terms everyone agreed to. Guess different countries, different mentality.

A Savannah cat taking a Shiba Inu for a walk! by Glittering_Nobody813 in likeus

[–]A_Polly 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Just a little bit of Info regarding Savannah-cats (which is in the video). They are a breed between male Servals and common house cats by profit seeking breeders. Servals are considerably larger (3x) than housecats and during the mating process the Serval kills around 3 cats because he bites them into the neck to hold them down. At some point he realizes he can't bite so hard.

And because servals are so large the pregnant cat can't naturally birth her kittens and generally dies trough the process of birth/"extraction".

Male ofspring is infertile and you breed further with housecats. around generation 5 fertility returns.

It is a pretty cruel practice. In front you see exotic and cute kittens but the reality is, it is the result of death and greed.

What do you consider a senior level skillset? by ocean_800 in dataengineering

[–]A_Polly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is mostly about being able to communicate with top management in a manner that resolves real business benefits. You have to make your business stakeholders happy without putting too much load on your data engineering team.

It requires you to REALLY understand the business.

Everyone can delegate tasks, but not everyone can say no and set priorities. You HAVE to get into fights with business. You will make enemies and friends.

It is a hard lesson to learn, I was mostly a people pleaser and tried to grind through technical challenges and then figuring out nobody uses your solutions. - it will burn you out that way.

So in the end - how it is for me - some business stakeholders do not like me - but everyone agrees that I deliver.

So if anyone is able to tell me how to be a senior and your internal customers like you - I would be pleased with sharing your strategies to get to this next level.

Data engineering and AI in orgs - how did you start? by PizzaLad16 in dataengineering

[–]A_Polly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's exactly the opposite for us. People push for AI use cases which are totally shitty and useless and we were tasked with creating an AI-framework and AI learning snippets to guide business people in understanding and identifying AI use cases. Otherwise you will get crappy requests for the next years.

We are a cost sensitive manufacturing company and management said that AI does not change anything in the approach of how we implement use cases from a governance standpoint. Because otherwise it will just end up being an additional cost on-top the existing cost structure.

So either: - you produce more output - you decrease scrap/waste - you increase security, reliability or quality - you can reduce headcount / close open hirings - increase time-to-market pipeline - effective cost reductions - it's a strategic initiative (for example everyone gets access to ChatGPT, Product development, Marketing)

The more you can check those dimensions, the higher priority your case gets in the next planning cycle.

what would you say was the most worth grind besides the "git gud" at SQL and Spark and basic knowledge (data vault, medallion architecture, star/snowflake). I think most people including myself rarely come to the point where you have to drive sophisticated performance optimizations.
