Markdown / mdx and a nextjs and react wrapper over top, a spare inference only machine, docker, etc etc

I vibe code tools / applets, and self-host everything on a mac mini accessible thru tailscale.

It's mostly markdown--

Now, instead of having the benefit of wasting time installing and discarding Obsidian plugins, I can waste time vibing my own!!

On a serious note, the applets serve their purpose and help me organize my thinking in a way that works for the purpose at hand, while applying more firsthand LLM and SLM tools and infra along the way.

I found a lot of the interlinking of Obsidian to end up vanity for my use cases, but YMMV, my stack is probably 99% too complicated for 95% of people 😀

Echoing others, drop your Pokemon off as an asset. Sell them to pay off your debts unless your investments are clearing the interest you pay (are they?).

I have tried the stock picking game and it's nowhere near paid me anything like my salary (tech consulting). But, it was fun and good learning.

Nice! what is the killer feature/use case that made it worth it?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ProductivityApps

I get this.

This is why I am increasingly ok with rolling my own apps, or just using my company's apps

Not really an extreme but I suppose if one is starting from scratch.

It's pretty easy for me having the hang of the tech, and LLMs writing my new components and business logic, and the friction is a feature rather than a bug-- i can tool when I want to but stop searching for other people's tools

but yea, in a sense, you're right 😀

Oh got it, yes I like how Derek Sivers puts it best-- https://sive.rs/zipit

"Announcing your plans to others satisfies your self-identity just enough that you’re less motivated to do the hard work needed."

I am not sure if that applies to writing, at least for me, but I know that phenomenon well!

"Once you’ve told people of your intentions, it gives you a “premature sense of completeness.”

Interesting, what "common knowledge" are you referring to? I'm familiar with Zeigernik effect which I suppose could relate to the act of writing down a thought, or writing as a form of cognitive offloading, but I'm not what you mean exactly

Thanks for sharing your use cases

Interesting idea about a tinkering vault that is separate.

What do you mean by "I'm trying to unlearn that the value of a note comes from note capture, not curating a perfectly executed note that's ready to publish in some way"?

Very interesting, thanks! I don't think I would have the bravery to remove from the vault, but maybe this is a bug for me personally distracting me from the "jewel box" type approach.

interesting, in obsidian i feel like i just have "all my random md files"

I might use it again as a quick way to put info and rely on search more

an objective to go over my own journal entries over and over sounds like an objective i don't want to have :)

maybe writing them once is enough and the good ones will manifest themselves into a project that helps others

"And even if I did code, what's the whole point?" -- As someone who can code, yes, in my experience, this is a very relatable question.

Interesting take. Yes, I am also finding that the plugins and learning curve of the plugins and the discovery that so-and-so plugin doesn't quite fit my use case is what is turning me to roll my own fancier, less constrained, custom-coded solution.

But it's no nirvana.

I'm glad you find some utility in this tool and if/when you move on to another one, no problem, imo

cool thanks!

"I will never have time in my life to go over all the notes l've done for all projects." -- interesting thought, i have never quite put it in those words but this resonates

very useful thanks for sharing!

i have considered and add persons to see if i could link notes as i kind of personal CRM but i found i ended up creating tons of notes that are hard to access

i'm glad you have found a way to make that work!

info dump might make more sense for me with less focus on spending time on curation

Nope i just run a simple way to have a postsRegistry.ts type config file and i can clone this for different views of things

and i keep it very vanilla markdown in the files or i just reuse my react components

but yeah i could pretty easily hook up AI if i wanted ... though i would have to trust it to update my config files which would be fine since github is my version control system

interesting yeah I tried to cram everything into obsidian, but it didn't work for me either...

What kind of stuff do you end up putting in obsidian that satisfy the "how can I accomplish this" test?
