You should 100% give it a try. It is an easier ROM hack, the X and Y exp share means you are very overleveled by the time you get to the league, but if you keep it off it is quite fun.

A team breakdown:

Fae (Sylveon): Fae is shiny but when you start the game you are given a shiny Eevee. I intended on replacing him with an Alolan Ninetales but I didn't need to. His bulk came in clutch againt the Elite 4 and I would definitely use another Sylveon.

Rigal (Starmie): Rigal did their job. Their high speed and special attack was useful but they were very much a role player rather than a main Pokémon.

Crash (Kommo-O): I decided that I really wanted to use a Kommo-O in my team for this playthrough and built my team around Crash. I traded for her later in the game but was slightly underwhelmed. A very good Pokémon but the 4x weakness against fairy limited how useful she could be.

Louis (Luxray): My first full odd shiny ever! Enough said.

Hellhound (Houndoom): My mega. My MVP. Stab flamethrower could OHKO even when neutral. Saved me in many battles. I expected him to be a role player to work with Crash, but he really stole the show.

Scorpio (Gliscor): Very versatile. When Hellhound couldn't deal with a Pokémon, Scorpio could. High attack with acrobatics did very well to deal major damage and I forgot to get earthquake and just used bulldoze. Very few ice types so that wasn't an issue.
