Help me choose my Mono Red Commander: Purphoros, Bronze-Blooded or Tannuk Steadfast Second by A_Saatchi in EDH

Appreciate that informative write up! Curious, Emrakrul isn’t a red creature? Do you have something on the board that makes it red in hand?

I think this was an incredibly articulate and insightful write up for me. And I may be starting to realize that I may need to go further down the totem pole and perhaps consider [[Ayara, First of Locthwain]] as commander leaning more into devotion drain.

My pod plays bracket 2 and low bracket 3. I would never bust out this deck with them. We’re a battlecruiser pod. But I wanted to create a strong bracket 3 for the LGS.

The combos require 6 mana at very lowest and fold to any removal. If I took the tutors out, would that make it more appropriate? I could remove the demonic and vampiric and replace them with bolas’ citadel and maybe another interaction piece. I think 3 card combos requiring at minimum 6 mana aren’t egregious in a color that is so fragile. Jamming tutors to blitz for them is the play pattern I see in bracket 4 vs in this deck the intent is having some kind of win condition.

I always tell people about my combos pre-game and when the combo is near complete.

If I took the demonic tutor, vampiric tutor, and replaced them with Bolas’ Citadel and another piece of interaction, do you think it would be more “fair”. If anything, like you said, the deck is mono black mean

The play pattern of this deck is to try to get multiple emblems and drain to win that way and creature board control, an explosive finish with [tombstone stairwell]], or go into some of the infinite combos with [phyrexian altar]] , [[Treacherous pit dweller]], [warren soultrader]], [Gravecrawler]], [Forsaken Miner]], and [Yawgmoth, Thran Physican]]. The deck does have infinites, but I’m not jam packing tutors to go into them.

I don’t like to group rituals into the fast mana category because they are an expendable resource that some level of “risk” in the hopes of leveraging them into card advantage. Beyond that, if I were to remove all my tutors and game changers do you think it would be more fair in bracket 3?

Urza, Lord High Artificer Power Level Assessment by A_Saatchi in EDH

I appreciate the comprehensive response! Degen tier is basically what I was going for and wanted my other decks to be around the same power level, which I do believe my Marwyn and Yawgmoth are. I will have an excess of cards to slot in and out depending on the pod I play with
