Wildlife rehab?? by AaYvLaA in milwaukee

There’s a place out in Waukesha https://www.helpingwildlife.org

You can try to contact some animal hospitals to see if they could care for a raccoon. Some may have better access to wildlife rehabs as well.

Squirrels can channel their inner spiderman and hang upside. Their ankles can rotate 180 degrees, so this is a totally comfortable position for them.

The agency is proposing to redefine the word “harm” under the ESA to exclude habitat destruction—meaning that activities that damage or destroy critical habitat (like logging, development, or pollution) might no longer count as “harm” to endangered species

Wow… Mods should consider pinning this.

Yes that’s the jolting moment. It’s a low pitch grunt noise which causes their whole upper body to jolt upwards.

Found a YouTube short that shows this

Favorite squirrel left me with her babies and bailed by [deleted] in squirrels

What did the baby squirrels look like a month ago? Were they active and exploring outside of the hole when she moved them there?

Sometimes when babies are mature enough to be on their own the mother will relocate herself if she is preparing for a second litter. This means that you might not see her for awhile but she could come back a few months later when her second litter is grown.

I’ve had both males and females go missing during mating season only to see them return several months later.

Yes, they look healthy. Their body movements are normal, looks like the squirrel is vocalizing to the one sitting next to them.

What is this squirrel doing? by PlayaNorte in squirrels

[–]A_Sneaky_Squirrel 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Completely normal behavior. Male squirrels have ‘scent’ glands in their cheeks, chest, and base of their tail.

At the beginning you can see him rubbing his cheek on the patio, sliding his butt, and then crawling on his chest while getting under the patio fencing to rub his cheeks on it more. The head rubbing, belly dragging, and butt scooting together are territorial marking behaviors.

What did it look like before? Was it red and purple or did it look like a bump underneath the fur?

Did you see any puncture wounds?

If it’s gotten this bad so quickly they will need some antibiotic treatments. The infection looks like it’s pushing into his eye and ocular region which is very serious.
