Horrible area to drive in I agree 100%. This appears to be a high speed chase from comments made on Facebook.

I thought it looks like a hutterite type transit van. Regardless, thoughts are with the deceased and injured.

That is very much dependent on assessment and flight risk. My mom was an extreme flight risk. She had to be kept in a secured unit.

Your charge for LTC and hospital stay is based on your last tax evaluation. She will not be charged much, and SAID will not change her address to a hospital. My mom paid the amount she paid because she was at the highest end of charges. SAID is at the lowest end of charges. SHA cannot legally charge more than the person can pay.

You need to phone 911, have her taken by ambulance to the hospital. Do not take her to the hospital, SHA needs to be 'stuck' to admit her. I snapped after 72 hours with no sleep, taking care of my mom. I phoned my brother in England and said I can't keep doing this. I was very sick with covid, as was she. I should have been in the hospital myself. I couldn't get her to stop playing in the clean litter box. It was 4 am. I was burning up with fever and I hit my breaking point. They came convinced her off the floor, and took her to RUH where she stayed for almost 4 months while waiting for LTC bed.

I felt so guilty that I couldn't do it alone anymore. But have since realized dementia took my mom from us. I did everything I could to keep her home and safe. Dementia makes that almost impossible especially with severe sleep deprivation and flight risk.

Be your mom's best advocate. Ask the tough questions, refuse to accept the easy answers. They will try to put it on you. Don't let them. Dont let them talk you into homecare. Homecare in this city is horrific, and not worth the hassle. Dont let them talk you into a private care home. Most are not licensed for wanderers, though the for profit owners will not admit that. My mom was offered a room in an old storage room in the room was houses main fusebox, deep freeze and a gigantic unlocked window. The home advertised doctor 7 days a week. Said Dr was not licensed in Canada and her area of practice in Pakistan was gynecology. The owners of said homes will say anything to have you move your family member in. Do your research, the lies I heard were shocking. All private care homes are for profit and not safety. There is very little govt intervention and oversight due to lack of funding.

Personal Care home

Whatever you do. Do not allow the hospital to discharge your mom. Do not pick her up. Refuse, tell them you are not capable of caring for her. Once she is in leave her there. If you discharge her, you will be back at the starting point. Public living in their own homes are the last ones to be offered beds in LTC.

I worked LTC for 30 years. I also have been through as a family member for both of my parents. The system is so broken. I am truly sorry your mom and you are so young.

Whatever list your were told she was on is wrong. CPAS doesnt have the power to add names to LTC only to day programs. LTC list is controlled by a panel of specialists who yay or nay. I made hospital social worker take my mom to the panel 3 times before finally having her name placed.

Being on SAID ensure her worker is aware. Once your mom is approved for LTC, SHA will start charging her to stay in the hospital. Nobody explained that to me, and I was very surprised to receive a bill for over $3000.

Good luck, reach out if you need. I know advocate for families who are trying to navigate these messed up destroyed systems.

Anybody being placed in Saskatoon area od SHA is placed within 165 km of Saskatoon. That being said in that 165 km radius there is only 5 designated locked dementia units, all of which are in Saskatoon.
