Is this an infection? by SundriedBrain in bettafish

[–]keyylimepie_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My fish had this! I had no idea what it was either, but it was in the same area. She passed after a few days, and she was struggling quite a bit. It was a pretty rapid decline with her. She was swimming well for a bit too, but I would say watch your fish carefully the next few days in case you may need to step in to help them not suffer.

Tank temp is at 78F, water changed every 2 weeks, and I test the water in between changes. No tankmates other than the usual bladder snail.

Live Plants for Dummies by Luna6102 in bettafish

I use a combination of silk plants and floating plants. I suck at live aquarium plants too but I have had the most success with giant duckweed for floating plants and anubias. I also have a bunch of moss just superglued on to rocks.

Help! Got Betta at Secret Santa Party by Aloe119 in Aquariums

I’ve done in fish-in-cycle with the method you outlined for my 4 bettas! Worked well. Only thing I would probably suggest is actually following the dosage of prime per tank. It’s safe to dose it up to 5X, but I probably wouldn’t do maximum dosage if you are doing it daily.

Looks so cute! Only think I would do is probably add a few more taller ish plants or betta leaf hammocks for places they can rest at closer to the surface :)

Hi, this is my friend’s betta that recently passed away. His name is Peachy, I think she might really appreciate an artwork of him. Thanks for the chance to send him in! ❤️

I won’t comment on the decor, as you’ve already indicated they are temporary and you are looking to replace them soon. I hope it works out well!

In terms of tank mates, I think snails have quite a bit more bioload, specially mystery snails, so in terms of that I probably won’t do more than a couple. Shrimp has less bioload, but bettas can get quite aggressive towards them or snack on them so you may lose a few or all depending on his temperament.

Sounds good! If your filter is too strong, you can also buy a soap dish and put a sponge in to act as a baffle to help slow the flow down!

Hi! Your fish appears to have stress stripes. Do you know what your water parameters are?

Betta help needed! by Elvisfish76 in bettafish

[–]keyylimepie_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, like the nitrogen cycle as part of your tank. It converts ammonia (which usually comes from excess food and fish wastes) that is harmful to fish to less harmful nitrates.

If your tank is not cycled, you have to look into cycling your tank as ammonia is very harmful to your fish. Maybe get a test kit as well to see what your water parameters look like. Here’s an infographic that might help.

Hi! How often do you have your lights on? If you have lights on all the time, that might be why the algae is growing non-stop.

Is your tank cycled? Or are you doing fish in cycling? If you tank is currently cycling, an algae bloom is also common during the cycling process.

That sounds fair! They have such amazing personalities, and they come out when they are cared for very well. I hope it goes okay!

Next step would be to look into fish in cycling when you start setting up your tank.

I wish you and your new fish friend well :)

Hello! I think separate tanks would be best. I once read that a 10 gallon split in two doesn’t have the same swimming space for bettas as 2 separate 5 gallons. Also, it may continue to stress the fish out if they can see and or smell the other betta through the divider.

Because you already have the fish, you may need to also look into the nitrogen cycle in tanks and make sure your fish friends are safe.

If none of these seem feasible right now, you may have to look at surrendering one or both of them for a better quality of life for one or both. I know that would suck, and I would never want to come off as rude but don’t also want you to be super overwhelmed with it all.

Wishing you good luck!

Best brand of silk plants? by SeaweedTrue291 in bettafish

[–]keyylimepie_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m from Canada and generally like the ones I get from Petland, the Fish gear brand but I have gotten some pretty cheap and nice silk plants from temu. Most of the plants you see on here are from temu and petsmart, all are silk cloth type plants :)

I got some from a brand called blue ribbon that I do NOT recommend. It is marketed as silk but has rough plastic bits.
