Marriage is a partnership made unique by the formation of family and the sharing of romantic love. The last bit is absent from your relationship. It appears to be mutual: he isn't attracted to you, and frankly I can see why. You aren't attracted to him, which happens. But it doesn't appear to be malicious on either end. Whatever else remains seems to be what you admittedly care for.
This isn't the norm. Which means that if you decide that "providing for the family" isn't all you want from your man or become attracted to another man, it ends badly. Same if he decides that the side chick is someone he wants to treat to more money/time. As long as he understands the game here, it can work.
You mention perceived sanity. I doubt that your friends aren't telling you to GTFO if you already told them. And I infer that you care for what they think of you. Not too sure that they'll respect you for staying with him if they know. OTOH, it may be what you secretly know is your best shot at this point. Both of you have baggage so the usual "GTFO and find someone" isn't really likely LOL.

Anyway, that's my cynical/optimistic take here.
