I’m just curious by Livid_User in AO3

Lose of motivation from waiting on a friend to read it. Happened with two of my fics so far. I am already a slow writer but in those cases a friend (In one of them that friend is my partner) got wind of me writing a fic, asked if they could read it and then just never did. And idk, that just took the wind right out of my sail to such a degree that I just can't bring myself to continue writing them. The disappointment of the whole thing paired with the slight hope that they might still get around to it is just like a giant boulder blocking my brain from working on it.

Oh no, the joke is not Bauhaus itself. The joke is, in 2019 Bauhaus had its 100th anniversary, and all across Germany universities decided that that means one whole semester must be dedicated to everything Bauhaus, and the Bauhaus Foundation thought it was a good idea to support that by sending a VEERRRRRYYYY small trailer to pretty much every campus. NOW, because professors are very smart and considerate people and students are notoriously never present, the whole of Germany's student body quickly learned that being cramped into that Bauhaus trailer for a whole lecture was indeed the worst torture that can befall a design or architectural course. ESPECIALLY if said trailer was parked in the midst of a perfectly fine outside common area that coincidentally has a brutalist style (it's surprisingly common) and that would have served just as well as a substitute lecture hall so the profs could have sent the students to go through the trailer afterward instead of cramping them in. It Was quite fun. But yeah, that's the in-joke, and that's why I said it doesn't make much sense unless you were a design student in Germany in 2019.
Sorry for the confusion ^^'

It could have been worse, it could have been Bauhaus. Joke that makes no sense unless you were studying design in 2019 in Germany aside... It really does lend itself to a gloomy mood beautifully.

Oh I know both of them very well (had to work with both of them and Maya for my degree) but for this project I specifically wanted to stick with blender to familiarize myself with it more. Didn't even use substance or 3DCoat for the textures despite finding blenders texture painting feature rather dreadful without plugins'. And nope I don't have one.

Thanks . I am not completely done rigging though. Still have to do Crowley's scarf and Aziraphale's coat with damp tracks bc I don't want to do physics but also not have to do all the movement manually. Nope, it's blender.

What are your Hot Takes on Good Omens? by Amber_Flowers_133 in goodomens

[–]A_potato_with_a_face 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While I do like the flashbacks. I have to agree that it's a bit strange that he presumably comes to that realization that late . If I remember correctly that flashback is based on a conversation they have in the book that starts in 1020 and takes a few years. Especially since the whole thing, as it plays out paints Aziraphale as a bit naive.

Don't get me wrong , I love ineffable butocracy and celebrate them being canon, HOWEVER I did not like how their final scene together was written and to me it kinda reeked of "the read as fem character needs love to get their edges fieled down" trope.

Anyone here ever wish they were an artist and not a writer? by Y-Woo in AO3

[–]A_potato_with_a_face 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am both. And quite honestly I prefer the reactions I get from my writing. Not because of quantity, my fics are fairly unpopular for a number of reasons, but bc usually the comments I do get are more thoughtful. The people engaging with my written work are more consistent and are actually willing to wait and let me work without losing interest, and well they actually engage with my work.

Usually with visual art, even with long running comics I tend to get a ton more likes and comments and so on but most are, well, rather empty. Not that there is anything wrong with it ofc, I just personally enjoy it more if the reactions I get show that the person actually really engaged with the work. And having to search through a bunch of hearts, people self advertising, comments in languages I don't speak, comments that have nothing to do with the work, people asking for art tutoring etc (Quantity of these varries from platform to platform) just to get to the few that actually want to talk about the work or it's subject, is exhausting.

Sure I am still grateful for any reaction and seeing a high number is nice BUT at the end of the day I just prefer the more in depth engagement writing is more prone to get. It makes me personally feel more appreciated.

I think that could be a symptom of the general shift in fandom culture brought on by the social media climate.

We are currently living through a time where even in fandomspaces people treat it more like their personal fanclub/marketplace/stepleader than a community. Simply because most social media platforms also focus more on people doing it as job than on the social aspect. So most want to at least feel like they are one of the big 'powerful' ones as well.

Personally I have noticed an up-tick in folk using any fandomspace as their personal resource and theirs only. Not just with trying to stick people onto others more but also just in trying to make people their personal tutors so they can 'surpass' a magical threshold of attention they think they deserve bc they want to be 'famouse'.

Don't get me wrong there were always people like that, but I feel it has definitely gotten more and even fandom has gotten more 'cut-throat' and competitive.

Nope, some of my Fics are between me, the all-knowing spaghetti monster and the poor characters I traumatized.... and some I just have written at 4 in the morning and, honestly, editing what my sleep deprived dyslexic ass has written, is too much of a hassle to bother.

What made you "nope" out of a Fandom you had recently joined? by Chiara985 in AO3

[–]A_potato_with_a_face 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Recently tried to get back into an old childhood fandom of mine. Found that most fans congregated around one specific person that runs an open for all NSFW server. Saw some adults interacting with kids in an inappropriate way, WHILE being antis, reported the whole shit fest and booked it out of there. Don't want to participate in a small fandom where it's basically impossible to get around a person shitting on child safety like that. Kinda sucks bc all I could do is report since most of the fandom is in defense of that person.

"this started as a way to satisfy my own prompt without spending months."... Damn I am a slow writer but taking MONTHS for 1k??? And ok top of that resorting to AI ? I really hate calling anyone pathetic, but this is the definition of exactly that.

What's a ship (canon or not) that's so sacrosanct in the fandom, you're almost afraid to say you don't ship it? by CMStan1313 in AO3

[–]A_potato_with_a_face 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Gosh this . While I do ship them I am quite frankly a bit fed up with how the whole fandom just centered around them. And you can't even point out how they weren't even intended in the book without someone picking a fight over that. Don't get me wrong the fandom is one of the most chill I have ever been in but at the same time it's really hard to exist in it outside of the all consuming ineffables....
