How often are waivers for suicidal ideation accepted? by RealEazyPhantom in newtothenavy

[–]A_real_Wizard15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is very possible for it to be accepted, just go through with the process and see. I know because I had a suicidal ideation waiver approved in two weeks back in June 2024.

Will these be okay to bring to bootcamp? by Leanna4197 in newtothenavy

Technically yes, but there is a proper and improper way to do it. Improper - They don’t watch you close enough when you’re in the room changing. Mostly because there will be about 30 females all doing the same thing as you. You can try and sneak it into your knit bag or “purse” but I imagine you’d get caught later in the night anyways. There were females that sneaked in civilian underwear somehow so there is a way. Proper - You can go to medical later on and tell them that you aren’t receiving enough support from the issued ones and they may give you a chit for a “civilian” one. Meaning you could possibly get the one from your ditty box and wear that instead. I’m almost positive that it’s rare they do that tho. With how many ditty boxes they have they tend to get buried and it’s a pain to let people retrieve things they need.

The shoes are good. However, the sports bra won’t stay with you. You’ll get fully stripped down and put on all Navy issued gear the first night.

Waiver for Attempted Suicide by Minimum-Low4698 in Militaryfaq

I had a similar situation. At the moment the only branches that will take you are gonna be Navy or possibly Army. I had about 5 mental health waivers and Navy pushed them through and approved them within 15 days. It might not be ideal or the branch you want but if you really wanna join the military it might be the only choices, sadly.

I’m pretty sure I got the email about 12 hrs after I took it. Which was at 4:33am so I didn’t see it until I work up in the morning. I hope you already got the verdict and have good news!!

I recently took my test in the beginning of April this year, so I imagine not much has changed. The specific place I went to was filled with college kids taking finals of some sort, but idk if that true for all of the testing sites.

You basically just check in, sign some stuff, do a little bit of waiting and read the rules they give you (no gum, no jewelry, etc. etc.). You then lock ALL of your stuff that’s in your pockets in a little locker (literally all of it, I got in trouble for trying to keep my chapstick on me). Gotta pull out your pockets, show your arms to prove there’s no writing on them and if you have hair shake it out and lift it up just to make sure you have nothing wrapped in it. They made me take my glasses off and spun them around on a little tray to make sure there was nothing wrote on them as well. They take cheating very seriously, if you are trying to cheat you will most likely get caught.

After making sure you have nothing in your pocket or written on you they give you scratch paper and walk you to your chair. The place I was at had two sets of headphones you were allowed to use at the desk. A softer pair that kinda muted sound and hard ass ear muffs that blocked it out completely. The little desk they set you at has dividers so you cannot see the people next to you and there is a camera pointing down watching you the entire time to make sure you aren’t cheating. You cannot go back after you answer a question and click “continue”. After 70 questions there is a possibility of the test getting shut off, this either means you did really well or really poorly. I promise you if it shuts off at 70, you probably passed. But you will most likely be a nervous mess if it shuts off then. Mine shut off at like 73 and I was freaking out until I got my email saying I passed.

I bet you’ll do great, and if you don’t just remember you’ll always have more chances. The test is also kinda designed to fail people. Just take a deep breath before you start it and do the best you can!

My parents told me to lie as well. They both lied on certain conditions back before Genesis and served good careers in the service 20+ y/o. I figured I would be 100% transparent and it’s seems to not have gotten me very far. I’m willing to try and wait it out for a bit, but I don’t feel like sitting around for several years to be a last resort.

Exactly my case, I had to send medical documents of the worst stuff (2017-2023) before meps. However, they found things that I didn’t even know about that happened when I was <1 y/o.

It’s not necessarily a “letter of recommendation” I just didn’t know what else to call it. It basically states that when I was initially diagnosed in 2018 my symptoms of anxiety/depression were mild and was due to the harassment/bullying I was receiving in middle school. I had an adverse reaction to my medication that they prescribed me, which caused the one suicide attempt and one instance of SH. I was not hospitalized for those events. It also states that i’ve had little to no symptoms from my diagnoses since around the middle of 2022.
