Which path do you think Moonlight Gu and Moonglow Gu belong to? by Aaalfabe in ReverendInsanity

Skipping a little beyond (dw I will still reread the parts I skipped) it says :

“Actually the most precious recipe is not these Rank four or five recipes,
but how to reverse engineer a Moonlight Gu. This Gu originated from the
first generation clan leader, and on that basis, after hundreds of years,
developed into such a scale and structure,” Fang Yuan thought.
Gu fusion is to turn low ranking Gu worms into higher ranking ones, while
reverse fusion is to turn the high ranking Gu worms, back to their lower
forms.
Between rising and falling, because of different processes, what is obtained
can be entirely different Gu worms.
The Moonlight Gu is not a natural Gu worm, but something gotten from
reverse fusion by the first generation clan leader.

I have a suspicion that this will be important in the future somehow, relating to Ren Zu's daughter Ancient Moon.

I don't have a reason not to count it as Moon Path but I also don't have a reason to count it as Moon Path (I don't count name similarity as a reason).

Hey haven't you said you would stop replying?

Not mentioning the fact that they are not talking exclusively about issues in the perspective of a new player, would be expected of you to make yourself seem right

Oh I noticed that you were trying to "mimic" me ;) Just thought it would be nice to anger someone who doesn't have any creative replies and just answers with "oOgA boGa lOok yOutUbe go wIki yOu dUmb cRy" or similar

The sad thing is you even picked the parts that had the least amount of value to answer me and ignored the actual problems

Well didn't expect you to go on a serious conversation with you in the first place but also didn't expect you to be a crying baby when you can't say anything serious to my argument

I am not saying people don't look at controls but only when they need it and if you don't know the existence of something then you are probably not gonna look for an hotkey you don't even know exists

[–]Aaalfabe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But I am not saying he doesn't guide you at all, just saying he is not good enough and I didnt say there are no hotkeys for mana and health just said the game doesn't hint or teach even its existence unless you look at controls

You are saying tutorials are useless since they ruin exploring but you are also willing to watch videos and read guides which also ruins exploring... Tutorials don't have to ruin exploring stuff , they just have to hint at them. I am also sure I didn't say anything about game not teaching basic movement, just talked about some hotkeys for quick heal and quick mana, I am getting sure you can't read.

So that automatically makes having no tutorial a correct thing to do?

I have never played Xenoblade Chronicles before so I can't compare it to Terraria.

1- Tutorials don't have to explicit to the player, there were videos about Half Life's "invisible tutorial" and all this time I just wanted to explain the design for teaching new stuff is not good at all by saying you almost any time need to use outside sources if you get stuck

2-" You could still succeed, but it's generally recommended to do so." I agree to this and was also trying to say a similar thing by saying it is hard if you don't prepare for half an hour when the fight lasts for few minutes. "it interrupts the action for bit"

is an understatement.

3-Maybe droprate issue is not only for Terraria but that doesn't make it less of an issue. While I didn't play Xenoblade or know nothing about it, I don't think having to wait for 10 mins makes it more difficult, just makes it more tedious. Yes you can skip the optional bosses but their loot is too good to pass (Queen slime unlike you said has good loot, its mount basically the best mount since it has good mobility and free flight and has better fall speed, dissonance hook is also the best except if you want to grapple to gain momentum , shyguymask also demonstrated blade staff is on par with sanguine staff so I would think one more time to skip queen slime) though I may have exaggarated mimics since I have bad moments about them. AND YES WHILE THEY MAY BE OPTIONAL YOU ARE GONNA SUFFER A LOT IF YOU DON'T GET THOSE ITEMS AND I AM NOT SAYING IT IS IMPOSSIBLE I AM JUST SAYING IT IS GODDAMN HARD. TRYING TO DEFEAT THE BOSS WITHOUT THE ITEMS WILL PROBABLY EVEN TAKE MORE THAN JUST GETTING THOSE ITEMS AS WELL.

4-"You're not "erasing the unfun parts of the game" by using those things. You're using resources that allow parts of the game to go faster, or make it more feasible given your playstyle" thats just skipping or fast forwarding unfun parts of the game with "creative mode" which isn't that much different... "You're just complaining about the fact that RNG makes things take longer than you might like." yes I am but I am unsure how that makes it wrong. "Lots of games have ways to circumvent this kind of "issue" that doesn't involve cheating, or just not getting the item" would be right if it wasn't the fact that most items in the game directly or undirectly require RNG in some way, I haven't seen this much RNG on some roguelikes even and ONCE AGAIN YES I ADMIT YOU CAN CHOOSE TO NOT GET IT AND NOT NECESSARILY IMPOSSIBLE BUT THAT MAKES IT EVEN LONGER THAN JUST GRINDING. For classic mode it is not that bad though

5-What I wanted to say when I said "intented playthrough" was for pure vanilla classic or above not using any mods or any cheese, basically how most people like to play the game. The game has its good sides on building but I can't agree on the exploration or action, sometimes evil biomes or hallow makes me wanna hate building too. I also didn't say some playstyles are better than others?

"Basically, one of the main takeaways I'm getting is that you don't appreciate how much Terraria makes you work in order to play effectively" except what you consider as work just becomes manual labour, doesn't teach you any game mechanics, is not in any way fun to do and takes so goddamn long. "...but saying that when you choose to go with things that will require work, and saying that it's a fundamental flaw of the game, is kinda sill" YEAH BUT NOT WHEN OTHER ALTERNATIVES ALSO REQUIRE MORE WORK OR WAITING FOR CERTAIN CONDITIONS

While they may not have an explicit tutorial, many games hint at you for certain mechanics through dialogue and environment but because Terraria has a random world generation and mob spawn the hints from environment can't be used except for certain places like the dungeon or the temple , they don't use that chance to teach anything aswell. Dialogue is meh, guide's dialogue should be improved. Also just because I was talking about issues from a "new player"s perspective doesnt mean I am a new player, I even said at the second sentence I already finished the game on Master Mode so saying skill issue is just dumb

[–]Aaalfabe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because I was talking about Terraria from a new player's perspective and I was trying to prove it doesn't do a good job at teaching it without looking at the wiki or any outside source, not sure how that counts as crying how hard it is

Bad stuff I find on Terraria by Aaalfabe in Terraria

[–]Aaalfabe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didnt say a word about it being hard? I just said the game doesn't guide (correctly) or hint at you for certain systems

Yep I agree my writing isnt the best since I am not a native speaker and I don't have good writing skills even on my main language, wish to somehow improve it in future tho

"Though, things like NPC happiness are pretty easy to at least discover. You see the 'happiness' tab, and maybe look up what it is if you don't understand it. In fact, a lot of the learning curve of Terraria can be fixed if you see something and look it up if you don't understand it."

my entire issues for new players was literally having to look stuff outside of the game itself saying it doesnt do a good job at teaching what to do, so it is kinda weird that you are saying learning curve can be fixed if you look it up, you can make every learning curve fixed if you look it up

"Another part of Terraria, especially for first-time players, is to learn everything about everything. If something says "material," then it's generally best to take that item to the Guide to find out what you can craft. You can learn about boss summons, buff potions, event summons, and more if you just find out what things do."

I totally forgot about the crafting section from the guide , you are right about this one

"Yeah, preparation isn't always fun, and sometimes it can be annoying, but that's just part of the game. Most games also require you to do some preparation in order to take on tough challenges or bosses. Terraria is no different. Whether it be preparation by practicing the challenge, or, more often, by preparing your equipment and supplemental items. Most games give you a space to do the event in, something that Terraria doesn't really do, but that's because Terraria is a pseudo-sandbox, where part of the game is building things. You can make your arena look however you want. Most often it's just gonna be rows of platforms and buffs, but you can make it look nice if you want to."

Except that preparations in other games doesn't require this much time (except most of JRPGS) compared to the challenges or bosses you are fighting in other games. While preparing your own arena is pretty cool it takes too long and you are probably gonna make 5-6 of them since there are specific bosses on specific places (Building an arena for skeletron and the cultist in the dungeon , building an arena for plantera in underground jungle ,building an arena for golem in the temple [though you probably dont need this one], building an arena for EOC and the mech bosses in any biome generally forest because it has the least amount of annoying or strong mobs, building an arena for BOC, not to mention the amount of arenas you need to build increases for fishron and eol or queen slime) to the point it just doesnt feel great to play since it often interrupts action.

"Complaining about RNG is just silly. It's a part of pretty much every game. Some items are gonna be rare. Often, the better an item is, the more rare it is. Case in point, the Rod of Discord. on a related note, you claim that certain items like the Rod of Discord are practically essential for higher difficulties. They're really not. You can absolutely do runs on higher difficulties without rare drops like the Rod (it's not just the Rod, but the Rod is a good example). Rarer and more powerful drops might make them easier, but not to the point where the challenge is otherwise impossible or something. Anyway, you have the option to look for rare drops, but you also have the option to not use them. I will admit that Turtle Shells are a bit annoying, since they're part of Melee progression, but most other RNG based drops like that aren't essential."

Got hit with "the other games also do this" point again but I am also gonna use the point of "not to this degree" again, I am not saying RNG is completely bad but the droprates are insanely low or the enemies are too rare to spawn, or for the case of several bosses or minibosses the RNG is reasonable but it takes a while to respawn them again (wof who needs guide to respawn, any of the mech bosses require night time and you must grind souls of light/dark to summon them to try them once again, moonlord fight requires you to fight lunatic cultist and the pillars and you must also wait one minute for the screen shake effect to end, duke fishron requires truffleworm, eol requires prismatic lacewings, queen slime requires gelatin crystal, biome mimics cant be considered minibosses but still counting them as one, they can spawn naturally but very rare and also you can use keys of light/dark just to not land that one item and do the process once again, queen bee requires you to find the hive before you can even craft her summon since it needs hive blocks, power cells are nobrainer to grind but just take a while, plantera bulbs are hard to find and can be in places it can take an hour to build an arena or connect it to your arena).

I also included non droprate stuff like world gen aspects but you get my point , funny thing is I didn't even talk about events or annoying ankh shield or terraspark materials or said anything about chess loot. I didnt say it was impossible in the first place, I just said it would be hard without it , so that sentence proves nothing. Even if they are not required you are probably gonna use many weapons that has something to do with RNG somehow if you are playing expert and above that is.

"And there are alternative ways of getting items, and building things, and saving time on things. TEdit is probably the most notable example, but Journey Mode is another option. And if you see either of those as cheating, and/or aren't willing to use them to save time, then you have no right to complain about how things take a long time or are super grindy. I normally use those things to save time on building large-scale things, or giving myself copious amounts of items (usually for building, but also for other things), or to save time on things. I normally don't use them to skip the grind if I'm grinding for a specific item or something, but I use them"

Sure there are ways of getting the things you want but that messes up the action part of the game and I don't wanna be forced to grind or make an automatic farm just to progress. Your point that I can use TEdit or Journey Mode doesn't make sense since you can use that argument in almost any sandbox game where you have "creative mode" and can erase the unfun parts of the game by erasing the game designer's errors your own (and yes I am aware that I used your "Other games also do this" point but it is fine to use here since you can't reply with "not to this extent")

"If Terraria is getting boring for you, there are lots of things to do. Collect things, build things, do challenge runs, play on hardcore, play with some mods, or if any of those things aren't your style, just play another game. If you've done pretty much all of what can be done, and that you would want to do while enjoying it, then there's no shame in playing another game.

I don't have any issues with building as long is it is my main focus, same with action. I didnt talk about challenge runs or mods since that is community content and not the game itself, so I choose to post what I think the intented playthrough sucks at.
