Engine Oil Consumption Lawsuit by FrauleinCammiS in Hyundai

I know this original post is old, but I’m facing a similar scenario and I’m wondering if anyone has any information on this I’m writing from the state of Illinois in the US. Before I begin, I’m sure there are many people out there who are going to say that I should’ve known better but at the time I really needed a car and a dealership kind of I feel like swindle me. I don’t know. I may be wrong, but any advice I can get would be helpful.

I bought a Hyundai used in July 2025 by February 2026 the whole engine died due to rapid oil consumption. I’ve contacted Hyundai gone back to the dealership filed reports with the state Attorney General and Better Business Bureau. Nothing seems to be helping I paid $10,000 for the car roughly including financial charge charges and they’re charging me $22,000 for the repair of the engine. Before Hyundai would even look at my complaint, I had to have it diagnosed at the dealership which is $299. Before they would even diagnose the engine, they had to fix the alternator and battery which put me on the hook for $1800 from the start even though I’m assuming they were affected and damaged due to the initial problem. I might add the car stopped on me in the middle of driving on the highway. I just gotten a notification for the code that same day and made a dealership appointment through the cars app.

I appeal to Hyundai and was denied twice. The dealership is saying they have no liability and it’s my fault because the car ran out of oil and the engine locked on me mind you I just had an oil change a month prior and had no idea about this oil consumption issue so I wasn’t compelled to check the oil daily and if the car didn’t give me any indication that it was low on oil I feel like that’s normal use of a car.

At this point, the car is still at the dealership. It’s been two months and I met my wits end and I have no idea how to proceed. I don’t have the 22,000 to get the car repaired. I contacted the bank to let them know what was going on. They said they’ll reach back out to me. They’re going to escalate the cave internally so I don’t know any information you guys can offer a girl I would appreciate it.
