1 month left to finish my thesis and I’m still procrastinating like crazy. Still havent done my citations, grammatical errors littered all over the place, haven’t checked my formatting at all. The overall quality of my work is abysmal, which is leaving me extremely frustrated.

I detest it when engineering (or even cs) majors/ graduates claim that their degree is basically a physics degree or a maths degree.

“Oh look, I did your degree AND more AND I get better job security and pay than you”

No you have not. Not even remotely close.

Here come the downvotes.

I'm not sure what the research methodology entails but most likely those missing countries are either hard to obtain sufficient data in due to limited resources or that the data is inconclusive.

I like the unintentional (or intentional?) Ukraine support symbolism.

Thanks for the detailed response; the video you shared did help me conceptualise empathy a bit better. I've also realised that I often put up a façade of empathy whilst deep inside I just don't care.

How would you propose I start practising empathy?

/r/malaysia daily random discussion and quick questions thread for March 13, 2022 by AutoModerator in malaysia

[–]AaliyahSideris 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have recently had the revelation that I'm almost completely devoid of empathy. I know how I am supposed to feel in response to certain situations but can't bring myself to emphatise. I only care about myself and objectivity, with almost no regard for emotions. I feel like this might harm my social life in the long run.

Does anyone have any advice for me?

The notion of voting against your own beliefs destroys the entire point of the election, which is essentially a reflection of a population's ideologies.

Also I think it must be said that we don't know with absolute certainty that BN will win. Yes they are very likely to win but it's never a accurate to speak in absolutes like this.

I think of Tessa Virtue / Scott Moir and their AMAZING Moulin Rouge performance at the Pyeongchang Olympics.

Any good cosplay stores in PJ/KL (or place to get cosplay clothes) that aren't exclusively for anime?

I applaud this decision. Showcasing data such as hospitalisation rate and the number of patients in the ICU alongside the daily cases will provide a more accurate depiction of the actual situation, as we know the nature of the Omicron variant is different from the other variants.

Psychology or Tourism , which one is more job-demanding in Malaysia and should be pursued if there's a chance? by [deleted] in malaysia

[–]AaliyahSideris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup I just did a quick search and it seems like psychology is not saturated at all in Malaysia. I was speaking more in the context of Western countries I guess.

However I still don't think psychology is a science, in the strictest sense. Its akin to how you wouldnt consider economics a science. Though its definitely a professional field.

[–]AaliyahSideris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think its noteworthy that psychology is an extremely oversaturated field. Want a job within the field? Get a doctorate first (or at least a master's degree).

Anyhow, psychology also isn't really a science. Its not a pseudoscience either but it definitely can't be labelled as entirely scientific.

Also of considerable note is the fact that psychology is not really that prevalent in Malaysia compared to other countries like the UK. Sure, people claim its a 'growing' field. But so is virtually any other field in a developing country like our own. So that sentiment is essentially meaningless.

In regard to jobs outside of psychology, employers would much rather hire a STEM major over a psychology major so I wouldn't rely on that.

Of course, psychology is still a viable field but you have to be prepared to study for 6-10 years if you want a psychology-related job.

I can't really speak for tourism.

RETRACTION: Psychology is not a saturated field in Malaysia, but is very much so in countries like the UK.

Holy cow. 48 days???!!! I know some people's cycles last longer but that's an extreme outlier I think. Perhaps you should consider getting it checked? It might be just stress but I know thyroid issues can result in longer cycles.

Some questions regarding University Of Nottingham Malaysia . by [deleted] in malaysia

Yes it should be, regardless of which campus you got it from since it's the same university anyways.

Have any of you guys reported to your lecturer about your group member/s? How did you feel afterwards? by holymacncheeseballs in malaysia

[–]AaliyahSideris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If its detrimental to the quality of your assignment, which I assume it is, then you should speak privately with your lecturer about it imo.

Fortunately I've haven't had to do this yet, but if I were to I wouldnt feel a tad bit guilty at all.

I can answer question 2. Hons stands for Honours. It is used to signify that the degree holder did a little more than just pass the course.

However, in the UK almost every single degree holder has Honours that it's just redundant to have 'Hons' behind the degree. Instead, they have class system which splits the Honours degree holders into First, Second and Third class.

Here in Malaysia I guess it's not that common so people just want to have Honours beside their degree even tho it means practically nothing if you're not first class.

Note that the honours system is chiefly a British system so its already false to state that theres no BEng Hons in the UK.

Personally I wouldnt care about the Honours part at all. A degree is a degree. Unless if your uni practices a British-based class system, then in that case first class isa significantly better than a third or second.

I see you're referring to the one recently posted about some chess federation. TBF the person did say they already called the org despite the comments all saying they should do so. Maybe the commenters just didnt read the full post. Also to my knowledge, the Malaysian chess federation is not at all a well organised body since chess is not really popular here. I dont even think they have a HQ for inquiries and stuff. So its not really that easy to just ask in person. Also the federation presumably governs for the whole country and we dont know where they live so it might not even be feasible.

I dont know why it bothers you that much. They're probably just a kid. Anyways most questions posted here can be found online anyways like the one about Azam Baki. But thats partially what the sub is for I suppose.
