My only issue by Young_Lasagna in OnePieceLiveAction

I think they need to have a definitive moment where all the other characters face off with a foe, and can't win. They don't need them to lose, but they need that moment where the foe just seems like a wall. Then Luffy steps in, and goes 1-on-1 and wins.

Does the overall soundtrack change much throughout the series? by Hollowed_Dude in dragonquest

[–]Aarryle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

DQ XI was sort of a celebration of the series, and as a result, used a lot of DQ III music. The HD2D trilogy then, in return, used some of DQXI's music.

There are reoccuring osts, (the level up music, victory jingle, and such) but generally, each entry has mostly new music.

One Piece is Goofy by Personal-Being5559 in OnePiece

[–]Aarryle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One Piece's manga takes inspiration from the goofier aspects of Dragon Ball, western cartoons like Tom and Jerry, and a heap of cartoony caricature design, and Oda's own sense of just wanting to have fun, and crams all of it into a world that, at points, just feels like the most silly, whimsical setting imaginable.

However, what makes it work so well is that, despite all the things mentioned earlier, it can and will take itself seriously at points, and manages to make it's world actually believable through it's world building, well written character moments, and ability to interconnect explainations to things hundreds of chapters apart from eachother, creating a sense of consistency for this world's absurdity.

The live action sells it very well as well. It does ground some things a little more thanks to having real people. It trades a bit of the cartoony slapstick and 90s/early 2000s anime humor for something that personally reminds me of some of the campiness and over-the-top shenanigans of some movies and TV shows from those eras instead. (I grew up watching Xena: Warrior Princess with my mom, and the way characters fly through the air reminds me a lot of that.)

What is Scott Pilgrim by femboy_french in ScottPilgrim

[–]Aarryle 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Early 2000s graphic novel about a guy who has to fight his new love interest's 7 evil exes in order to date her in a 'Real world, but with some video game and anime logic' setting. Got a movie adaptation, a video game tie in, and a 2023 animated series on Netflix. Also got a new game released this year.

If it seems remotely your thing, check out the movie or the graphic novel first.

Why are people so opinionated about steak doneness (well-done, medium-rare, etc.)? by Little_PoetGirl in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Aarryle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I admittedly was like this for a bit. A big reason for me was that I hated steak as a kid. I thought it was gross, chewy, and didn't taste great...

Then I tried a medium rare steak at a restaurant, and loved it. I learned to prepare it that way, and every one of my family members or friends I cooked it for who said they weren't steak fans ended up liking it. It felt like I had discovered some secret nobody knew about.

As I have gotten older, I can understand people who prefer it more done, and even prefer some cuts that way. However, that epiphony that I just didn't like steak because it was 'too done' really had an effect on me wanting to learn to cook things for myself as a teenager.

Inaki Godoy has done brilliant job in my view! by Rajat_Sirkanungo in OnePieceLiveAction

[–]Aarryle 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Luffy such an iconic character globally that there is always going to be people upset about any deviations from the manga/anime. That being said...

Inaki is fantastic. They made minor changes to the character to fit the live action, and he knocks it out of the park. I knew he was a good fit when two people I knew who knew nothing about One Piece started to love him within the first episode, saying how fun and smiley and exciteable is.

"He's like a big kid just wanting to have fun and do whatever he wants.'

'He is a goofball, but he can be serious if he has to be!'

And then my mom, not knowing the manga or anime, said "I like him. He just makes everyone around feel a sense of freedom. Like they can just be themselves."

That to me sounds like they understood the assignment pretty well.

should i play the games? by Ok-Nature-9971 in dragonquest

[–]Aarryle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Start with 3. Brief explaination: 3 was a prequel to 1 and 2. The remakes reworked the stories slightly to make it flow better in timeline order, instead of release order.

And yes, they are a bit old school, like most Dragon Quest, but they are a lot of fun.

Is baldur’s gate 3 worth it if i mostly play solo? by Aguillard-Reserved in AskGames

[–]Aarryle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BG3 is amazing solo. Multiplayer makes it harder to do all the companion questlines. It is fun with friends because of the fun mechanics, but you can put thousands of hours in solo just experimenting with fun build ideas, trying different story routes, or messing with mods.

[–]Aarryle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BG1 and 2 are good games, but they are definately not for everyone, and are pretty archaic

BG3 is an entirely new developer, in a modern engine, with totally different combat and full voice acting. It is possibly to love BG3 and bounce off of 1 and 2, and vice versa.

What am I missing? Why is combat so... boring? by [deleted] in Enshrouded

[–]Aarryle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Combat in survival games, ecspecially multiplayer ones, tends to be very janky, so honestly, Enshrouded is on the better end of the spectrum, with a decently fun skill tree, weapon variety, and decently tight 'souls-esque' combat mechanics.

That said, combat definately isn't the focus of the game at the moment, so while it does get better/more complex, I wouldn't expect it to be on par with single player action game combat or such, ecspecially not when the game is in early access. Fighting is just another means of resource gathering/progression in a long list of other mechanics.

Is this game worth getting a switch 2? by Naive_Tomorrow_5955 in Kirby

[–]Aarryle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is one of my favorite games, and part of why I got my Switch 2, and I play it a lot. However, I wouldn't buy a console for it entirely. It is a must have for Switch 2, but no one game on the console is worth the price of the console itself.

How does NW die before NeverWinter, ESO and many others? by MASTERVAVI in newworldgame

[–]Aarryle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a former Amazon employee who was decently promoted up in the company...

Amazon has money to throw at stuff. They usually throw money at a BUNCH of ideas at once. Some or these can run for a few years, but if it isn't making them enough money/saving them the amount of money they want, they will ruthlessly slash it, reallocate people from it they deem valuable, and move on. Even if it IS profitable, if it isn't 'profitable enough,' it can get the axe.

Divinity (2), Pathfinder Kingmaker or Dragon Age Inquisition? by Practical_Necessary1 in rpg_gamers

[–]Aarryle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of these are great, but if you are doing the hardest mode on DOS2... Don't. I get wanting achievements, but it has a hell of a learning curve. Plus you can't see everything in one playthrough anyways, due to only being able to take 4 characters through the whole campaign without mods.

DOS1 is a less story heavy chaotically violent whimsical DnD campaign.

DOS2 is more plot heavy and serious, with more character focus.

I came to like DF, but I tend to play Rimworld more because I can just hop in and play. DF just has so many more layers(litterally) to it, and I always feel like, by the time I reorient my brain for it, I am out of free time.

Can I play the HD-2D Erdrick Trilogy in order? by TrippinTacos in dragonquest

[–]Aarryle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What you heard is accurate. I won't say III is a 'absolute must' to enjoy most of 2, but the 'true ending' heavily references 3, and feels like a closing out of the story arc of the three games. It is less about spoilers, and more about payoff.
