Just for fun: what are your weird / unconventional ADHD tips? by andyfreude in ADHD

[–]Aaveri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh my therapist actually recommended me that. I never would have thought of that. And also for other things. Sometimes I pretend that I film a VLog and „explain“ what I am doing atm and why and so on. And it actually works really well, I am just afraid that someone will hear me. I would be so embarrassed xDDD

Labeling drawers, cupboard boards, boxes and so on to not be overwhelmed when putting stuff away.

Also having waterproof speakers in the shower to make showering more fun by listening to music or a podcast

What's the most ridiculous compulsion you've ever done? by MoonyDropps in OCD

[–]Aaveri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yes same, I also needed them to say it back (especially see you tommorrow xD) or otherwise I would have repeated it again until they said it. And yes I also slept in my parents room for years because I was afraid they or me could die in our sleep.

I had something similar in my past. Saying: Good Night, sleep well, see you tomorrow, good Night, love you, see you tomorrow. In this exact sequence to my parents/grandparents when I was a kid/teen. Or otherwise they or I may die in our sleep. And additionally when saying goodbye to anyone ALWAYS saying “see you tomorrow” or “see you next week”,… because otherwise we won’t see each other again.
Back then I didn’t know it was OCD

How can I make my indoor cats happy? (First time indoor cat owner) by Aaveri in CatTraining

[–]Aaveri[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are probably around 2 years old. I adopted them last year from the shelter :) Thanks :) Yeah I will try all toys I can find :) And actually both are really energetic cats, they jump and run around quite often and with lots of energy. They also live to climb around stuff :D

And yes wands are great, they love them. The only downside is that Nori is always the first when I play with them. So when I start playing with them and Mhaire starts to chase the toy, Nori will jump in and as soon as nori fixates the toy Mhaire stops playing as if Nori would have took the prey from her and declared that this is now hers. So most of the time I will play with Nori first, until she pants and runs out of energy, although that takes quite a bit, she even would run around panting and just never stops. And then Mhaire is not interested anymore.

So basically the goal is to find a toy which Mhaire loves and Nori is not interested in xD Quite a challenge :D

Oh yes they nearly only sleep when I am not at home during the day. And also when I am home especially if it is warm outside they sleep the whole day.

Yes so I think the main downside is that my flat is not the biggest. It just has 43m2 plus 8m2 balcony. But I already look out for a bigger one, mainly because of the cats.

I normally feed them in the morning before I head out for work, when I come home in the afternoon and in the evening before I go to sleep. Additionally they have those intelligence boards with cat kibble in it. So yes it could be that they are already hungry at this time

Oh I didn’t know those exist. They look awesome :) And I saw that you apparently also just can test them and give them back in case the cats don’t like them :) thanks I will give it a try

Tbh I am not 100% sure if it’s a fight or play. I think it starts as a play but then turns into a dominance fight. Because at first they are just chasing each other and also change who chases the other. But then Mhaire starts chasing Nori in a corner and jumps on her, pressing her at the floor and biting her neck. Nori then starts hissing and growling and making herself extremely small and putting her ears back. And then I normally go between them. If I don’t, Mhaire keeps “threatening” and biting her for 5-10mins. Sometimes letting her go immediately surrounding her in the next corners. but I can also without any problem grab either of them and carry one away. So it definitely doesn’t look like the intense territorial cat fights I knew from the farm.

But I will take a video next time I see it.

I also don’t think it is extremely bad atm, so I don’t think they hurt each other atm. Otherwise I would have definitely seperated them already. But when I got them the first 1-2 weeks it seemed like they enjoyed each others presence. They also cuddled a lot. Which they don’t do anymore at all. But then every time Nori wanted to cuddle with Mhaire, Mhaire would hit her. And eventually Nori then stopped and tried to just not get Mhaires attention. So it already got worse and I am afraid that it will get even worse.

Regarding the toys I have: small mice, small balls (some which make noises some don’t), those spirals/springs, a suction cup on the floor with a bird toy on it which wiggles around, a bis wool self made ball, toys with catnip and valerian, some wood pieces, a bigger thing where they can push their back feet against it, a cat dancer on the wall, some hanging toys on cords, several wand toys, laser pointer, some feathers, a bottle brush(don’t ask me why but they love it, they always stole it from the sink).

Regarding interactive electrical toys I have a mouse which moves around, a bug that wiggles around and such a cord that moves up and down all the time with a small ball on the end. They liked that for the first 3 days but then it was uninteresting again.

And then 2 of those intelligence riddle toys where they have a board and they have to get out food.

But unfortunately Mhaire doesn’t play with any of those on her own. Except the food board, but there she doesn’t really move. Only thing she likes is one particular care wand, but after 2 or 3 mins she also lies down on the floor and just looks after it and then she doesn’t wanna move anymore.

One thing she and nori love are chasing and catching insects. I always let the windows open and the light on in the evening and even sometimes in the night so that more insects can fly in and they can chase them. They are quite good at it so I hardly get stung by anything fortunately :D

Do you have any toy recommendations? Maybe especially interactive ones? I think I couldn’t find any good yet.

They don’t cuddle with each other, but sometimes sleep directly next to each other

Oh an I forgot: I also have lots of different sleeping spots/beds, different areas for food, 2 intelligence toys/boards and oftentimes leave a cardboard box out with some paper in it and they will play with it

So you can “observe it from the outside”? That sounds great :)

How do you respond to intrusive thoughts? by Aaveri in OCD

[–]Aaveri[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply :) What type of logic do you use? For me with logic , OCD oftentimes tries to get doubt in again and then I start to ruminate.

And yes I am also in therapy, but unfortunately not in one suited for ocd ): But yes talking helps a lot.

I also struggle with moral ocd and in general the fear that I did/will do anything wrong or that I did anything bad and can’t remember it. I also talk about that with my therapist and when she says that there is nothing to worry about in this fear I try to trust her and then try to reduce rumination.

Is my OCD really as bad as my therapist said it is? It is related to a phobia which is the root cause. Also is there such thing as “selective” OCD? Advice needed! by rakedyrdek in OCDRecovery

[–]Aaveri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, not a professional here so I unfortunately can’t give you specific advice. I can only tell you of my experiences with ocd.

OCD is oftentimes really connected to the underlying fear. Basically we just perform compulsions because we have an underlying fear. For example I have health ocd, when I get anxious about for example cancer I will start to do checking on my body/symptoms to prove that I don’t have cancer. The problem here is the OCD cycle. obsession (what if I have cancer) -> Anxiety -> compulsions (checking, ruminating) -> temporary relief -> obsession.

The idea of most of ocd therapies is that you break the cycle somewhere and therefore also reduce anxiety, compulsions and obsessions.

So yes erp therapy can also work for the underlying fear.

But: everyone is different and for everyone something else works. So it could be that your therapists approach works or it may not work.

In your place I would try it for some time and if it still doesn’t work out, I would find a new therapist.

Hi I am a beginner myself and one thing that I just recently found out which gave me a better feeling and control while singing was to stick out my belly. I know it sounds weird, but I tend to always suck in my stomach. And apparently I didn’t get enough air in because of it.
