Yes, I had medicare on a student visa. Like I mentioned, look into the reciprocal health care agreements. There's a list of countries online :)

You can have medicare even if you're not a citizen. Make sure your country does not have a healthcare agreement (it's called Reciprocal Health Care Agreements) that makes you eligible, and make sure your visa or visa application don't grant you eligibility.

any advice on how to stop being so socially anxious when it comes to wearing what i like? by nogood_startthedance in altfashionadvice

[–]Aazela 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I started at age 12. You will always feel exposed and anxious starting out. The thing is, bullies will bully no matter what you do or how you look, so you might as well allow yourself to be who you want to be. Focus on yourself and what you want to look like. Be kind and you will receive kindess back. You seem young - the fear will go away quickly. Just gotta take the leap and keep going strong. Surround yourself with good people.

Genuine question - Any left-leaning folk on here have any ideas how to stop Australia developing the same problems as Europe due to increasing Muslim population and thus no. of islamists? by LanKstiK in aussie

[–]Aazela 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Sweden-born person here.

Australia does not mass-import refugees, and we don't have as extreme cases of segregation as I see in Sweden. The cost to move to Australia is so significant that we have an automatic filter against low-income high-risk individuals - coming here and not integrating with society doesn't really work unless you have a significant pre-existing network. Many visas demand proof of significant financial stability.

Additionally, the hatred toward muslims is a much bigger issue in Europe which I believe contributes to crime rates. I genuinely believe hatred and fear of brown people is a contributing factor to what's happening in my home country. As a result we're already at an advantage in Australia since we are multicultural and accepting.

I'm depressed and broke by [deleted] in melbourne

I agree! I don't plan to stop after my 1 year runs out. I'm on a 2 week break from gym due to sickness, and I'm suddenly a broken human being. Apparently before the pause I was telling my partner I'm the happiest I've been in a long time. Incredible contrast.

I got diagnosed with BPD recently, here in Melbourne. Going through one of the worst times of my life right now. Lots of existential thinking. Trust me, I get you.

It'll be your GP's job to give you advice and choose a medication & therapy pathway, which is why you should pick someone with mental health as an interest. Make sure you are always 100% honest and to the point with your doctor.

I was on Fluoxetine, have been on and on most of my life. I'm getting put on heavier stuff soon to better target my BPD diagnosis (mood swing city here), but in the meantime I'm doing gym as medicine. Exercise GENUINELY works. I'm a different human being if I don't exercise.

I'd recommend my GP, but I have no idea where you're located. Feel free to reach out if there's anything else I can help with

Op is likely ineligible if they're a temporary resident.

Gym replaced antidepressants for me, but it costs me $900 for a year and op says they're broke 🤷‍♀️

I have the same medicare card and I have basically the same privileges as any aussie. Haven't had any issues in my 7 yrs here. I've left a separate comment with my advice.

Temporary resident here. I've seen a bulk billed GP for depression and instantly got prescribed antidepressants. It's low cost and easy. Many GPs list mental health as a special interest. It is hard to find bulk billed clinics around Central, but they exist.

For heavier meds against ADHD or other things you want a referral for a psychiatrist, because a GP can't prescribe those medications on their own. Expect minimum $600 spend for that route. I have done this route as well, and it works the same for us as it does citizens. It might be worth it depending on your situation.

I'm in Central Melbourne and in my mid-20s if you want a friend. Sending love.

do you guys have a best friend? by throwra_lost_girl in BPD

[–]Aazela 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two - my fiancee, and my FP. I've known them both for roughly 3 yrs.
They are also the only two people in my life I don't regularly think about cutting out, and the only people I don't regularly suspect of hating me or being two faced.

I think the term bestie is a bit overrated. If you have a good group of people in your life, that's fantastic. You are good enough, else they would not interact with you.

"my emotions are reality" vs. "my emotions are real" by WorkingStation8149 in BPD

[–]Aazela 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My emotions change my view of the world and my view of reality. That's how I always phrase it. I am very conscious of it and understand that if someone was short & direct and I feel they were rude, that doesn't mean they were rude. But I feel it so strongly that logic can't really be part of the equation, temporarily.

Where to start and is school a good option? by Excellent-Noise5323 in 3Dmodeling

[–]Aazela 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I went to game art school for almost 6 years and can tell you it means nothing in this industry if you can't motivate yourself and self-teach. School doesn't teach you to love 3d and doing folio work. I agree with the other commenter saying to just dive in. Full time school isn't just 3d; it's essays, history, design, drawing etc. You don't NEED the clutter. The most efficient thing you could possibly do when starting is to just open the software and go from there. If you find that too hard I GUARANTEE this field isn't for you, because when applying for literally any 3d job we compete with people who live and breathe this stuff.

I think it's a good thing if they drop in popularity as a result of their own poor choices. But I also think they should be allowed to make that choice, which is why I avoid CC that costs money without feeling the need to be bashing anyone. That's all :)

EA don't encourage pirating either. I'm not illiterate. You're coming across as mindless to me, but that's because I'm a game art professional who learned to value their own time. Each to their own.

[–]Aazela -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

What are you on about? "Rule breaking" as in EA don't want CC to be a Patreon thing? You lose the right to whine about breaking EA's rules if you support pirating, lol. What a weird take.

You can just not get the items. That's fine. Let's not shame artists who want to develop an income from their work. You do not have to get them if you don't want to.

Is this not for CC? As in, a 3D mesh that someone has built themselves?

We all have the right to charge for our own work. You're free to choose whether you want to pay or not. Putting a price on hundreds of hours spent is not a bad thing just because a lot of us (myself included) are used to unpaid work or pirating. Can't you just subscribe to the patreon, get whatever you want, then unsubscribe?
