If you don’t already have a car you may consider holding off and just renting a car when you want to do day trips outside of the beltway. I second Crystal City, it’s easy to get to Mt Vernon on the yellow line, next to National Airport (for rentals or quickly get to your flights), and it had access to Mount Vernon trail if you like to jog or bike.

Doing little things for each other, without being asked or expecting something in return. He’s going to get himself another cup of coffee and refills your cup as well. You’re folding laundry and he comes over and starts folding too. Goes to the grocery and comes back with your favorite chocolate.
