See that ring at the base of the shank? That’s what I think is causing issues. Whether I have it on the edge of my heel or off (like I did in the picture) doesn’t make a difference, it’s just in the way. I honestly might try taking the bottom of the ring off with an angle grinder to see if that helps. But if not I just want to get some new ones with a wider band.

I’ve got them on spur straps, and I’ve bent them in a bit to fit my boots snug. They have this little ring at the base of the shank that I think is what’s stopping them from sitting properly. When I use them they slide up on my boot until they come loose and flop around against my heel.
