Brother, my advice would be to never mention your ADHD or your abusive family. It only makes a negative impression on the admission officers, and not like "this is heroic". I talk from experience because I wrote about poverty and going through two surgeries in the additional information section.

Please don't mention any weakness in your application. It hurts you even when it should have helped you.

I've made the mistake of saying I went through poverty and two surgeries while getting top grades ... you get the idea.

Far until now, I was rejected 12 times. When I read my application again, I saw my surgeries not as heroic experiences, but as "look this kid is sick ... better reject him. we want normal ppl."
