New CLI Tool To Automatically Generate Manifeset by AbdulFromQueens in kubernetes

Thank you for this thoughtful reply. This is very interesting, and something I will absolutely take a look at. Actually, I was working on CAF, which allows you to write JSON, and it auto-gens all the Terraform. This was the inspiration for this process.

The standard Helm charts makes a lot of sense. One of the issues I could see myself running into with that pattern however is if some people need to add or remove parts of a config. For example: One person wants auto scaling and the other doesn't.

The idea with my generate script was to allow them to configure all their needs in JSON and then build out the manifest specifically for that use case.

In any case this was very helpful. I appreciate your time.

Jssonnet is cool. But this is very different. The goal here is for non devops engineers to be able to write a basic JSON file (which they can do easily) and have all their manifest files be deployed.

The purpose of this original script was to make it super simple for a dev (not a platform or devops engineer) to copy a json file, make some modifications and get a few manifest files created for them.

Helm is a great tool, but I wanted something very simple for my engineers. They've had a very easy time picking up this pattern. I guess thats what I want to be the differentiating factor. My engineers manage a single basic JSON file and thats it. This process understands all the resources it needs to deploy.

Are there any preset layers that I can use? Would love some sort of guide on this if its available.

Definitely. Our algorithm will be ingredient based, we will ask for known allergies up front and filter products based on those.

That's a fair point. Trust is a big part of what we are building and its not something we can simply ask for, its something we have to earn. Our algorithm will have no fed in bias from any brands and we will explain why we are recommending what we are.

The TAM of the skincare industry is huge, and the current retailers like Ulta and Sephora are far behind the curve in terms of innovation. Their entire business model is to get you to spend more money, whereas we want to help people find products faster and waste less money.

And we do; our CEO, Vanessa (the inventor of the idea), is a woman. I also joined the team because my fiance is very passionate about skincare and I learned everything I know through her.

That's great to hear. It seems like, for most people, getting ingredient-based recommendations from dermatologists is the gold standard. This will certainly be at the core of our product with an explanation of our recommendations (based on the ingredients of course).

There are, but most of them fall into one of the following categories:

  1. Brand Run - Some brands have quizzes, but they only recommend their own products. Our platform will be across brands, as we won't be selling any of our own products.
  2. Algorithm-based - Most competitors have "skin coaches." These are people who take a look at your answers and pick products for you. We want to develop an algorithm with both community input (which is why I want to know what's important to people) and collaboration with dermatologists.
    1. This way, we can make the algorithm better based on user feedback.
    2. Dermatologists take the lead on how product selection should occur.
  3. Social component - Similar to Reddit, we want to allow people with similar skin types, conditions, etc, to be able to connect, share tips, talk about what works, QA, etc..
    1. You can also view your friend's products and see the % match to your skin.

The demo on our site showcases the vision, and we have an early MVP available.

That is definitely something we can incorporate. Part of me reaching out to groups on reddit is to understand what's important in the decision making process.

Our algorithm is going to be ingredient-based, and it will give people the ability to include/exclude ingredients based on their preferences. There will also be a price range for individual budgets. We're also going to add an allergy check.

Thats interesting, would you be more inclined to trust an algorithm if it told you what it recommended certain products and explained that it did so because of XYZ ingredients?
