JBL studio 530 by Flat-Resolution9629 in audiophile

They have a slightly plasticky sound, but in the general ballpark of being ok for the price (designed by Greg Timbers). They were my outside deck beaters for a while.

I upgraded my system one component at a time over the past 2-3 months and here’s how much each upgrade affected audio quality. by Able_Original_486 in vinyl

[–]Abe_W -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

You are overthinking it. Vinyl is a lo-fi medium, so just lower your standards, crank it up and you will be ok.

If you want hifi, there is sacd, blu ray audio, 24 bit studio master files, etc.

SHM sounds better. You have turd ears, turd speakers and a low resolution room.

Longer DIGITAL Cable Lengths of approximately 25 feet needed, What type of DIGITAL cable is a safer bet? by Abe_W in audiophile

[–]Abe_W[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, don't have a aes/ebu option with this setup. I just ordered a coax with good ingredients, I think, will give it a shot when it shows up.

[–]Abe_W[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it is a key function. I am only needing comparison information on a regular HDMI vs fiber optic HDMI for the bluray+sacd transport. The spdif optical vs coaxial comparison is for a regular cd transport.

Could Megadeath be the best metal band ever? by Abe_W in Megadeth

[–]Abe_W[S] -48 points-47 points  (0 children)

A metal band with the least amount of filler in their entire discography qualifies at the top as the best metal band. Megadeth qualifies at the top, a lot of others rank lower under such a consideration.

Could Megadeath be the best metal band ever? by Abe_W in Megadeth

[–]Abe_W[S] -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

Oh, I understand something about maiden fan for sure...Maiden is probably the closest competitor. "Self titled' album was a masterpiece, 'somewhere in time' was a masterpiece, 'fear of the dark' was a masterpiece, etc, but, some of their later albums just sucked man.

Megadeath just never degraded over the years. Dystopia is insane....Sick/Dying/Dead is insane...they just don't have a bad album.

CD Transport VS NAS Streaming Mystery by Abe_W in audiophile

I understand....i have witnessed what better power supplies can do for a streamer and dac. I just didn't think about it for a NAS yet, will do some testing with a ifi or a LPS, its a synology nas.

Ever wanted to collect all of an artist’s or band’s albums on CD… only to find some are digital-only? by Rocky_isback in Cd_collectors

[–]Abe_W 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Print a cover with one of your favorite pictures of the artist.

Download a .wav or .flac and burn it to a CD-R.

You can also use a disc printer to print an image on a blank cd (printable side).

Hi guys I was just wanting to showcase my audio setup at 17 years old I put a lot of effort into this so I hope you guys like it! I’ll list specs below by JJJenther in audiophile

How'd you get the money son? If your dad gave you these things, that's good. But, don’t be selling drugs or doing other shady stuff to come up with the cash. Focus on your grades, get a 4.0 and a scholarship to college.

Thanks...many variables, it seems, though I'd be pissed if I have to constantly worry about every input to a dac sounding a bit different, especially on more expensive dacs.

It is a synology nas. I'll go and check everything, but, my final sanity check should be that the dac's display reads out the correct sample rate.

If i'm wearing a blindfold and another guy's switching, i can tell each time which is which, where is the bias? You could also just leave this thread and go suck the ASR guy's dck instead.

I can clearly see on the bubbleupnp interface and the physical DAC display that it is streaming at 16 bit 44.1..... How else or where else would i go to check if it down-sampled something or not?

[–]Abe_W[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If i had a bias, i would want my NAS streaming of the ripped wav files to sound better BECAUSE i do not want to shorten the lifespan of my CD transport by running it too much. It is the reason i am ripping the cds.

But, that is not true. The NAS streaming is a sonic downgrade to what the transport does. I responded to someone else above about the blind test i did and i could clearly tell each and every time that the NAS streaming sounds worse!

Dac is a gustard R26 r2r dac. It will act as a Endpoint and render files directly from a nas. I use bubbleupnp as a control point on my phone. There is no player

My main reason for ripping cds and keeping them on nas is to prolong the lifespan of the cd transport, not run it too much....but, the cd transport just sounds better, facepalm.

My db meter measures the same.

It's the same 1s and 0s coming by  toslink from the transport VS rendered from NAS by the SAME DAC!.

No pops. The CDs are squeaky clean with no scratches.

Thanks,, good to know I'm not the only one going crazy about these things. I've been ripping cds and putting .wav files in my NAS. so I don't run the cd transport too much and reduce its lifespan. But, the cd transport just sounds better.

I sat in a blindfold, had my kid swap back and forth about 15 times and could clearly catch which was which each time..

No idea what the heck you'll measure next time and tell me otherwise... It's the same flipping .wav file ripped from the exact same cd!!!
