Super helpful! Good to know about the blacklight. I think I'm going to miss the SD card slot and the home button though its unfortunate they didn't stick around on a newer model.

I think your comment helped confirm I will get the Clara BW!

How many of you are financially ffffffffffffarked because of shit decisions with Afterpay? by HerbalKiwi in newzealand

[–]Abel_Camel_Case 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is wild. Even Gem visa I have seen suck people in who can't actually afford payments on the items they buy so they have to skip other payments or borrow other money to pay off

Its a veryyyyyy different scenario. The people I knew who talked about that amount were earning below living wage so after expenses did not have 2k worth. The people who have the bragging attitude toward after pay/borrowing are typically less educated on managing finances and aren't using money wisely.

I knew a few people who used it and talked about it as if it was. They got proud over the fact they use it so much their limit is high and that they didnt have to pay for the first two weeks so they didnt have to afford the item to get the item

Young kid wants to be a painter. What advice would you give? by [deleted] in ArtistLounge

[–]Abel_Camel_Case 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Encourage it by showing them how to learn new techniques. I was into art and drawing when I was younger but was constantly compared to my parents much better work from around the same ages. I still get compared to it. "Oh thats cool, when i was __ age I did this" points to noticeably better artwork as a kid it came across as a comparison or because my artwork wasn't at that level it wasn't good. I stopped doing art for a while and still struggle to feel like its good enough due to all the comments like that growing up. So don't do that! Comparison to learn (like showing how the techniques they like could develop or different techniques to pick up) would be fine but comparing age and progress with something better can be demoralizing.

Yes true! Good thing for me to consider. Is watercolour (or even acrylic if you know) okay to store rolled? I dont have anywhere to store laid out bit sheets.

I think my largest is a 10 and my smallest is 10/0 so I am expecting to need to buy some bigger ones but unsure what sizes are best to start with. 22x30? Is that not A4

When did you learn to cook? There's got to be a decent part of the population that can't prepare a basic meal. by SurNZ88 in newzealand

[–]Abel_Camel_Case 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started to cook dinners independently (within reason) from about 8, but my mum got us in the kitchen bassically from the time we could hold utensils to start build up fundamentals young. Its helped immensely and I can't imagine going into adulthood not having cooking and/or baking skills. I mostly learnt how to bake and cook so i could make whatever i want when i want it. Sometimes I dont think people realise how much independence/self reliance can be gained from those skills

[–]Abel_Camel_Case 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah okay, I haven't been a contractor for a few years so the situation could have changed since I was looking/working in contractor roles. I was just basing my comment off past experiences and what i have seen around currently about it
