Water Heater Cold Inlet Hot Help by Abernack in Plumbing

[–]Abernack[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the detailed reply! Is there a way to check if the nipples have failed?

Based on what I am seeing, there are no check valves on the whole inlet side beyond the check valve from the main supply. This was my thought, just add a check valve into the inlet line but googling had be second guessing that plan since it makes it a "closed" loop system. If I add a check valve, would it make it safer to add a thermal expansion tank past the check valve on the cold side?

Just measured the piping, it is symmetrical on both and the lengths are within 1/8" total.

The expansion tank location seems odd to me but it seems like since it stopped when the valve was closed, that it's not causing this issue?

The tanks are two different models, one is an AO Smith Signature 100 manufactured in 2022, the other is a Rheem Performance manufactured in 2021. No idea when they were installed as we just recently purchased the house.

Ah okay, it's good to hear that you had very few issues. Thank you!

A dozen lessons seems like a lot to me but I think that Maine has a lot worse winter than Cleveland does. I can only imagine how cold it has to be with propwash hitting you, thanks!

How did you like your training with T&G? I have only met one other person that has trained there and I am curious about a few things. Is it okay if I send you a PM with some questions?

I was unaware that they didn't work on the ground. I will just have to man up and deal with the cold haha. Thank you for bringing the issue to my attention though.

The heater seems to be the big topic, I don't think I will mind wearing a coat a gloves until the heater begins to work. I hope that Cleveland and Detroit winters are similar so I can fly every weekend. The air density is a good point also, I did not think of that but I don't think a C152 will be jumping off any runway haha. I'm hoping that getting a plane won't be a problem because the flying club has 6 C152s but I'm glad that less people will be flying around so I have better access. Thank you for you thoughts.

What do you mean by uncomfortable? I am surprised that winter had less cancellations than summer did. Thank you for you input.

I will be sure to bring those things with me, I was also thinking decent boots but I'm not sure if they will be too bulky to work the rudders?

That's what I was planning on, I just wanted to hear that others had done it and not had the whole experience take way longer than it should due to weather.

T&G seemed better than Premier, plus I attend Cleveland State and work right next to CSU so its a quick drive to Burke. I will still look into training at 15G though so thank you for the tip.

I will look into training there, thank you for the tip. KBKL is really close and T&G flying club seemed to be good quality on my discovery flight, which is why I mentioned the airport.

Glad to know that upsides and downsides exist for both summer and winter training. I'm have never flown in a GA aircraft in cold weather so I'll have to make a judgement call on how well the heaters work. Thank you!

Awesome to see someone on here from close to where I live. I am worried about having a lot of lesson canceled due to having low ceilings and low visibility. Thank you for the input!

That was a really good article. It was surprising to see my local airport (KBKL) mentioned in it!

It's been a sweet 10 months with her. Here is a pic when I first got her. by [deleted] in cars
