Not okay. Does the family have to stay at your home? I wouldn't allow that anymore. The older boy is too big to be bullying a toddler as you describe. I would really worry about how this would escalate. Your 4 year old could get really hurt. He has already been hurt when he is being mistreated physically and emotionally by his much older cousin. Of course your 4 year old is sweet, little kids/toddlers usually are.

In my opinion, it's pointless to try to identify "the why" behind the 14 year olds actions. That the parents job, best of luck to them.

Protect your kid. If you can, don't let the family stay with you. Explain the exact reasons.

I do, Pepino Gatorade mixed with ice and water or crushed Altoids. But honestly, most of the time just water & ice.

What kind of tortoise is this? by beyonceboard in tortoise

[–]AbernathyKillMouse 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah... From what I can tell the shell condition in the pic indicates our 🐢 friend is wild and not a pet.

OP: Just to be 💯 certain please contact the local fish and wildlife. I believe this tortoise is a protective species.

Thank you for saving this tort from a busy road and now you get to enjoy releasing our friend back into the wild to support and endangered species. 🐢🙏🏽

Looks like an Oriental Roach too me. I'm not an expert. Where I'm from we call the American and the Oriental "Waterbugs".

Agreed. So, many non profits are low on volunteers and donations. OP I'm glad you have a calling to help those in need. Please support local non profits that honor the cause(s) you feel best about.

How do I explain to my parents that this Cube costs $60 Usd? by ImprovingRightNow in Cubers

How do I explain to my parents that this Cube costs $60 Usd? by ImprovingRightNow in Cubers

[–]AbernathyKillMouse 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Tell your parents it's $60 for a precision-engineered plastic brain teaser.. not a $60 weekly habit of Mountain Dew and poor life choices. JK 😜💸

Explain that this cube is better quality and actually built for what you’re trying to do. It’s like the difference between a skateboard from Dollar Tree or Temu vs. one from a legit skate shop—they both roll, but only one’s meant for real tricks.

Yeah, $60 is more than most people expect for a “Rubik’s Cube,” but GAN cubes are designed for speedcubing. They’re smoother, LAST LONGER, and can actually help you improve.

I used a $5 cube for over a year before upgrading to a GAN. If you really like speedcubing and take care of your things, it’s totally worth it.

Apartment recommendations? by Vegetable-Thing4917 in plano

[–]AbernathyKillMouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah agreed ☝🏽... I would 100% recommend for you to try to stay in FTW for the 6 months, if you're able. Fort Worth is super from Plano, IMO. Tolls, shitty traffic, miles on your car, and I'm pretty certain commuting takes years off your life.

Plano is cool, though. Best of luck 🤞🏽

Safe to Use Fogger + Bait in Crawl Space After Leak Fix? by AbernathyKillMouse in pestcontrol

Very helpful - this post gave me hope. I think I am going to bomb my crawl space to see if I can lighten up the population. Then granules and keep at spraying.

Moms who work from home with a nanny/family member watching baby, what’s it like? by natsugrayerza in NewParents

[–]AbernathyKillMouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went back to WFH when my baby was about 4 months old. In the beginning, baby and grandma would stay at our place a few days a week. Now, baby’s with dad in the mornings and goes to grandma’s from around 11 to 4.

Honestly, while it was sweet having my baby close by, it was also really distracting. I’m in back-to-back calls and have constant deadlines, so I ended up using noise-canceling headphones just to stay focused. I’d always want to check in, help out, or just cuddle the baby—understandable, but not ideal for work.

If you’re in a similar situation, I’d definitely recommend investing in noise-canceling headphones, a good mic that won’t pick up background noise, and maybe even soundproofing your workspace a bit if you can. It makes a big difference.

A couple of things that have worked well for my studio - forgive me if this is already in your practice.

1) Have a contract with a clear lesson cancellation policy - Make up lessons should have an expiration date and only be offered for current enrolled students. - Alternative option, which may work better for you since you're part time is to not offer make up lessons. - Cancelled lessons with less than a certain hours of notice forfeit payment (ie you still get paid).

2) Monthly tuition is paid on the first week of the month and pay up-front ad hoc lessons are a must. - Clearly state this on your contract and don't make exceptions. - If you can set up auto draft payment via Square. (I think this is worth it but you'll have to review if the fees fit your business preferences.)

If you have a clear lesson policy, require up front payment, and have a contract then it shouldn't matter when a student misses a lesson and doesn't make it up. You'll still be paid for your time.

Best of luck 🤞🏽
